  1. Being left handed and playing on cramped stages from time to time the headstocks of my basses are always smacked in to guitar headstocks or cymbals. They never end up looking too healthy regardless of how well shaped they started off!
  2. A complete beauty of a Rick: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F362474887867
  3. I'm saving up for that.
  4. Probably. But I've bought enough shite in the cheap end of the market that I've been scared off Mooer and Behringer but I am from Yorkshire so there's no effing way I'm spending more than £100 on a single-effect pedal. I can be a bit of a "brand snob" but only a bit... So I do have faith in Boss, EHX, moreso than the cheaper brands and I'm wary of brands I haven't heard of. When I was starting out though a £20-£30 useable pedal would have been very welcome.
  5. I don't think cheap pedals will kill off the big and established names. Hopefully it makes them up their game, push to innovate more and make me want their new pedals and sounds. Then there's the price point issue, will it mean Boss for example does a cheaper range to compete with Behringer, or are the margins so low its not worth doing to them and they don't want to degrade the £80 per pedal position of their main brand? Either way, I'm glad there's cheap pedals about. If my multi effects experiment fails I can buy my missing bits off the cheaper end of the market for experimenting. And of course BC has enough good quality reviews of things the second they hit the market!

    Bass soul food

I liked it but ultimately moved it on. I generally like a clean bass tone with grit coming in from open tone and the finger attack. I felt that in my set up the soul food added some good drive to the high end but wasn't there in the low end.... Like I say, in my set up and for my playing style, others may coax something else out of it. I use drive as an absolutely not subtle "here is the heavy bass" or to thicken up the sound under a solo, I couldn't get it to suitably do these for me. I preferred its character a lot more than the EHX bass blogger I used to have.
  7. Some good info in here... In theory, if the OP wanted to gig this amp would a speaker upgrade and some carefully placed holes cut out the cab help, if done by someone who knows their stuff? Or is there more going on than that making it a costly but pointless exercise. I genuinely don't know much about Amps. I just need an on button, rotary knobs for volume and a big speaker that goes louder than the drummer.
  8. Andertons are advertising them... Whether that's pre order or in stock I'm not sure
  9. Lefty on gumtree... Wishful thinking on price! https://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/left-handed-fender-bass/1318793773 "Open to offers over £1,000" I bet you are!!
  10. I'd stay away. If someone spends over a grand on a bass then they know the difference between a P and a J.
  11. Saturday 3rd November from 6pm One Fat Finger will be the live band accompanying the fire works at Bishops Stortford Rugby Club. Come along and throw a toffee apple at the bassist!
  12. All sounds good to me, I'd prefer a satin neck. I haven't had tuner issues yet but they don't feel as substantial as those on my other basses. Nothing wrong with the pickups to me but an upgrade is welcome. Might lead to a price cut on the series ones too.
  13. They won't sell Jagermeister any more because it's European but they still sell Stella Artois... That's from Belgium. Is it cos they'd go out of business if they didn't sell Stella?
  14. Looking for a possible trade. I have an Ashdown Rootmaster 2x10 cab. I bought it from Dawson's, shop display use only, this April. I like it, but I prefer a 1x15. So if anyone has the Ashdown Rootmaster 1x15 and would prefer a 2x10 I'd happily trade, provided condition is good. Mine is in v good condition, it's been gigged a handful of times but stored inside the house, never smashed in to things, never abused with ridiculous volume. Please PM me if interested.

  15. I don't think I'll ever "love" my Sire, I wasn't in love with the idea of getting it. But if the drummer kicks a cymbal over in to it, like he did my Japanese Precision, or if a drunk punter sends loads of kit flying and it ends up face down in a pool of cider, again like my Japanese P, I won't mind so much. They're good working instruments, they sound damn good and feel good but you won't care if they take a pasting live because they're never going up in value.
  16. And this is why hard working journalists, like my brother, hate their jobs. The Mail office is full of kids trawling social media for anything they can make a sensational headline from to drag in traffic. They're paid peanuts too, but that's all they are worth. Journalism has been devalued so much firstly by this need for everything to have its own unique opinion and now by this "results by number of clicks" it makes paying for a newspaper ridiculous to me, but then that feeds the cycle. No money coming in = no pay for skilled people or incentive to have skilled people at all.
  17. I bought one because I wanted a five string lefty jazz and it was the best option without spending crazy money. No regrets whatsoever, it's my main gigging bass. The headstock is a bit ugly but I forgive it. There are a lot of pots, I'm using this to see if I like active basses.... Well, I now bypass the EQ on my amp and my pedal board to purely have the bass onboard EQ pumped out. There are bits that could be better and more refined, I think the new series 2 has addressed that with things like satin neck finish instead of gloss. Don't let the headstock put you off if you want a solid working instrument. I'm not able to display mine so...
  18. I'm the other way round... No, I don't mean left handed, I mean I like a headless bass with a body. I had a Hohner B2A for a while and would probably still have it if it had been "bodied" rather than bodyless... And the string spacing issue
  19. It would be unreasonable to ask a new member to learn an entire catalogue in a short space of time. I'd ask them what are the ten most important, start there and nail them. Then when you're all happy go for the next ten. In our covers band we have built up a bank of 50+ songs, we try to add two a month and we bin off some that haven't worked so well. It's a lot to remember, even as covers - I'd say it's harder cos you can't bluff your way through if there's a distinctive part! I put cheat notes on my set list, so for example the bridge to Huey Lewis's power of love has no logical pattern to me, so I need to write out Eb-C... Etc. To glance at as a prompt.
  20. Time tree is one we use. Good points are you can create and share events, block out weekends you're away etc and everyone can see it instantly. Bad points, if someone pits something in or deletes, makes a comment, you don't get a notification (or maybe you can if you change the settings?). So this leads to arguments over whether the gig was placed in before someone booked their holiday or after! If everyone is good with filling in their unavailable dates then it makes organising so quick and easy, especially when you get approached straight after a gig.
  21. Can't help with the specific question being asked but my guitarist has a Faith acoustic six string and absolutely raves about it. Seems they're excellent value for money, he talks about it the same way I talk about my Sire bass.
  22. What settings are you using on the chorus for the fretless?
  23. One Fat Finger, covers band. Tonight at the White Lion in Baldock! It's a great atmosphere playing in there, we love it! Come along tonight if you're in the area. Music style: rock and soul covers. Our criteria for playing a song is will most people sing AND dance to it?
  24. I'm another self confessed TE fan. I loved my huge TE rig and my drummer gets excited when we have a trace in the rehearsal rooms. I'd say if it's impossible to get a useable tone the amp itself may need a service. It's old gear, chances are it could have been thrashed by someone previously, dropped, left in a damp garage for ten years, etc. While not everyone loves the classic trace tone there still should be a good acceptable place to be found in the EQ options. I used to hate Ashdowns until i used one that hadnt been abused by a previous owner.
