  1. Depends on the sound man/ person
  2. It is. People want to be in front of a screen beforehand, not packing up after a gig
  3. Well if England go to extra time on Saturday we may just sit on the stage and wait. At the other end of the site there will be a TV on showing the game, so if it goes over the usual 90mins, as it probably will, we would be ruining everyone's viewing by drowning out Glenn Hoddle's bullsh!t say-what-you-see commentary.... Hang on! I think we're on to something.
  4. My band got a call about Saturdays gig asking if we could move from 5pm to either 2 or 3. Seems some bands won't play when the footy is on. I can sort of understand, why play to absolutely nobody?? But a commitment is a commitment, I feel for the organisers. It's a charity event and they might really miss out. Had England won their group they'd have had Belgium's fixtures, which would have not affected this Saturday at all.
  5. Funny you mention that... I did jokingly suggest it.
  6. Never mind practice it's going to ruin my gig this weekend! If the England game ends in "regulation time" we are on stage ten mins later. Playing to.... Probably the festival organisers and a few people who despise football. I won't get to see any of the game because I'll be driving the forty five mins to the gig and getting set up. We were so excited about this gig until I realised the clash with the footy. While it's not during the game, being realistic, playing just ten mins after the game we are not getting the crowd we wanted.
  7. What was it with 1978??? I only ever see 1978 left handed precisions. Never any other year.
  8. Or to quote Jimmy Carr: "oi, I'm trying to work here! How rude to interrupt. I don't come down your place of work and knock all the sailors c*cks out your mouth"
  9. Honestly an Ashdown Toneman 300 combo. I sold my huge trace stack because of the weight but was not wanting to spend big bucks. I wanted to buy new as you can't always be sure with second hand Amps and my experience of Ashdown was limited to beaten up and abused practice room amps. I bought it expecting nothing. Ok, it didn't give the full ballsy grunt of a trace or the power of an old Peavey but it did the job for gigs. It then started an affinity with Ashdown and I'm now using a Rootmaster head and cabs. I could still be using the Toneman but the portability of the Rootmaster stuff and the higher quality, lower weight just all tipped it for me.
  10. It looks like a DIY job my wife has reminded me about for three months... Then the result reminds her why I don't do DIY.
  11. There's not a lot of capability on show
  12. Always great when you meet someone you admire and they're a cool person!! Would hate to be disappointed by one of my heroes. Well done!!
  13. Being kack-handed and suffering the dearth of choice off the shelf I've always been attracted to a Warmoth build. Understand if you'd rather not say but what was the rough cost of this? And what, if not cost, made you choose this over having someone in the UK build to your spec?
  14. Just awful. Can't believe Warwick themselves would do that. It looks like the kind of thing you see on eBay occasionally.
  15. Agree completely. But as a beginner would I feel more progress knowing where the notes are (it follows the order of letters in the alphabet plus a few sharps) or knowing some tunes? I know which worked for me. Not in any way criticising the intentions, learning where the notes are is important, but if you aren't doing anything with those notes... I just think learning some songs is more effective for a beginner.
  16. Hate to say it but I think download some tabs for favourite songs and play along until you're getting it right. Your ear should tell you if you're off time/ on the wrong note and if you're learning your favourite songs it's more of an accomplishment than getting fifty points on a game but still not knowing how to play your favourite songs.
  17. We try to as a minimum go for a drink to sort out set lists and so on if someone is missing. We have had practice with just bass and two guitars, no singer or drums before and that was really productive. But generally we sort out the next few Thursdays in advance, everyone knows Thursday night is band night but if partners are working away or there's something of a one-off that has to happen on a Thursday night we try to give at least two weeks notice. I like my band, we are all on the same level of commitment and respect for each other.
  18. Mine are black on a white precision with black pickguard.
  19. I bought some fender tapewounds a few months back when eBay did a 20% off. Eventually fitted them to my precision this week because with flats on it was getting less and less use in our increasingly funky set. What a revelation!!! Really complex tone, felt great, brilliant all rounders from thumpy to twangy, no zingyness sadly but you can't have it all. I'm a massive believer that strings can make the biggest influence on tone over pickups and amps. I'm a convert. Now you're all going to tell me to buy Status/ La Bella etc!
  20. Yeah silk at the ball end was too thick. I tried with nail scissors and it did the job. Just wasn't sure if that would be fatal for the string but did it carefully and it was ok.
  21. Trying to fit some fender tapewounds to my precision that has a leo Quan badass bridge. On the E the silk is too fat... Don't want to unpick it all in case it all unravels and ruins the string.... Please help! What should I do?
  22. I do like the option to disable the EQ and use a pedal if that's the preference
  23. Love mine! Easy to get a good tone and it packs in to a laptop bag.
  24. I would expect this if dropping a grand, got to keep that bass in top condition
