  1. There's the difference I think. Andertons aren't just online and I get the impression they aren't that small. Either way, I share the OP's frustration.
  2. Working for one of the UK's biggest and most reputable high street retailers I can honestly say it's not always that simple depending on what systems they had in place in the past. Plus the cost of these things... It's a simple concept but not so easy in practice, sadly.
  3. I was just sick of being fobbed off and being my bass I just had to get it myself. If I'd asked them to do it I would have been waiting at least another week.
  4. Dropped in a bass at Sound Control in Southampton years back for a set up and I was concerned about the truss rod. It was a Warwick Streamer LX so not a cheap bass. Went in the next week and the person who does the set ups had taken it home... And he was off sick. He was off sick the next week too. I kicked off at the manager because it just looks like my bass has been stolen. They gave me the guys home number and I went round and collected from him. He was genuinely sick, but even so, taking a pricey bass home with you and not even doing the work is unacceptable for me.
  5. There's loads of good ones that have a guitar stand built in. And Ashdown do that one which is a cushion on top of a cab...
  6. A few years back I bought two Bartolini J Bass bridge position pickups for my 90's MIM jazz bass. The reason for buying two bridge pickups was because the pickup route on these basses is the same size for each pickup for cost cutting. So the question is am I missing any tonal option by not having the neck specific pickup or is it the same as the bridge? And are the screw holes in the same position on each pickup? I've already bodged the pickguard and fitted a pickup cover so if a neck specific pickup would benefit and it will fit the existing screw holes I'm inclined to get one... But only if it will make any difference. As an aside, I've seen the odd lefty bass with pickups installed "upside down". I didn't bother. Again, am I missing something?
  7. That MIJ Precision went for £410. An absolute bargain. Anyone here buy it?
  8. I'd love to know your compression settings and copy them. Mine seems to suck out all tone and character, but I probably need to spend more time with it. I do enjoy the enhancer for my fretless bass though. I use the recommended setting from the manual and it brings out something from the bass
  9. Just interesting as I've read lots of people saying they immediately got on with fan frets no issue, yet I've always been sceptical. Maybe they're justifying the huge investment in a weird looking bass?? Seems your review is more realistic, it takes time, patience and some quiet around you to get to know it.
  10. In my naive youth I was told the skunk stripe was a mark of quality. But my MIJ Fender doesn't have one and it's an amazing bass. Now dad has informed me the functional reason for them I could give or take a skunk stripe.
  11. Thanks. My guitarist suggested cutting and resoldering the cables but I think he was talking about patch cables and not power cables. Shorter cables would be ideal though.
  12. I never thought I'd be a pedalboard guy but it turns out I am. I won't bore you with a story so similar to all of your own, but I find myself in a mess of cables. My Gator board isn't massive, I don't want to buy a bigger board, but I have taped my power pack underneath and now I have a mess of cables underneath the board. Is there anywhere I can get really short 9v connector cables, or any good tips on tidying these away somehow? For patch cables between pedals I've just invested in flat cables and have some "double ended jack connectors" that only work with pedals of the same brand. Ideally I need a board like the pedal train but determined to keep my pedal and board related spending as low as possible! Any tips gratefully received!
  13. I'm not necessarily assuming it, he could just be out there to do what he's told and coin in as much as possible. He could be a frustrated artist, or anything in between. Either way, I bought one of his albums and found the singles to be good and the rest a bit meh. But I won't get angry about it. Manufactured pop and the like has been around for decades, it's not changing any time soon.
  14. Amazing when you hear 80's and 90's pop groups who truly awful the vocals were. At least now people can sing in tune, largely, even if they are trying to copycat someone else. Bruno is a commercial slave. So am I, I do an unfulfilling job so that I can pay my mortgage. I hate it but I'm good at it so I keep doing it. Will I cut my pay down to almost nothing to use my skills for the benefit of a charity? I hope to in future, but I need complete financial security first. I'm sure every now and then Bruno wants to bring out a new type of soul or something but nobody would buy it and it would ruin his commercial "credibility" so he sticks to the formula and keeps his career going. Do I enjoy his music? It's ok. But I'm not his target audience. I agree he is talented, I agree he is ripping off the greats before him, just hope it introduces a new audience to "the gap band" etc. for their musical education.
  15. Country and western. You're just a GAS fiend.
  16. Hard rock cafe... Ok I get it. It's more about making sure the instrument is kept in best condition, not just displaying
  17. I have a colleague in her mid 40's whose father was a bassist and he passed away when she was young. She inherited his basses, I don't know what they are but they will be good quality mid 70's (at the newest) basses. She wants to display them in her new house on wall hangers. Also I think she wants some advice on how best to look after them. While she is very musically adept herself I don't think she will be playing these, but will never sell them. I'd like to build up a list of things for her to do to keep them in best condition... It seems "leaving them in the case" isn't the first option for her! Would the good folks of basschat like to help? So far I'm on: Hercules wall hangers but use longest screws possible; Record the serial numbers in case they get stolen; Check the neck for straightness/ no warping;
  18. Nice looking body wood, what is it?
  19. Probably because of the location... https://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/lovely-big-old-trace-elliot-bass-amplifier/1286392089
  20. SX do a good range of fretless basses. Years ago I played a defretted squier plywood pj bass and that sounded exceptionally good for what it was. Those would both be very cheap and probably easy to find around second hand.
  21. Columbus 70's P https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F142683754432 High start price or good value?
  22. Great stuff! Thinking of getting my band name in Fender type font, where did you get that?
