  1. Superb quality preamp/ DI pedal with distortion. XLR and jack outputs, can be powered using a 9v off a pedal power pack or battery. Small but very functional. I've used as both a preamp before my Ashdown and as a DI pedal straight to PA, it's a great pedal. Metal casing, rock solid. MXR quality. Very clean condition, no velcro on bottom. Only listing here as I'm going away soon. Add £5 for postage or collect from Welwyn GC/ St Albans area. No box or manual but you can find the manual easily on line. Will post in a decent box. Only selling because I got an offer I couldn't refuse on a different DI pedal that solves a self-made problem.
  2. Just bought Carl's EBS Microbass II. Absolute gentleman to deal with, cannot ask for more. Thanks again! 😀
  3. I fully understand that, it's not really the point I was making.
  4. I like a bit now and then! For fretless I find some reverb or delay essential, a bit like adding reverb to vocals, it just thickens it up nicely and brings out the best qualities of the sound. I was at a Marcus Miller clinic where he said he finds reverb on bass to be too muddy so prefers delay.... I mentioned that on here and got told "just cos he's a great player doesn't mean he knows anything about effects" (I think being one of the foremost bassists and producers means he at least has time to try a few things, perhaps!!). So now I use an Analog delay. I saw an Ian Alison video where he used delay into vibrato and that sounds good too. Where do I use it? A low amount of delay always on for fretless. For certain parts like when I have to do the opening of Seven Nation Army without any other instrumentation, if you listen to the high definition audio version of the original there's a whispy delay trail on it, I use it for some synth type lines that I copy in pop songs too. On top of that at home I use it just noodling around because it sounds good solo. I got a Joyo Analog delay for a good price second hand and it's holding up well.
  5. https://www.gig.ink/?fbclid=PAAaZByJVJigcFk4HY4QH8Pd8RIB9M3r0pEgiS0L5VaHEQzT3BKO8D5hCPdFk @Dankologyif you want a custom made pickguard/ assurance it will fit... I've had a few bits from Gig Ink. He's a member on here too I think. He's excellent and very reasonably priced. Band logo on a mirror pickguard for a left handed US Stingray? Not a problem.
  6. If it were in any way not working, like dodgy preamp or whatever then I would send it back. But needing an hour's worth of cleaning would be a quandary. It's sloppy by the shop for sure, it worth the hassle of sending it back (assuming by post?) and hoping they do a good job of sorting it would make me think it's better doing it myself but sending them photos and asking WTF they're playing at.
  7. I've been told off for my soundcheck being to play 80s melodies on my bass (Take on Me, Wherever I Lay my Hat) and singing the first few lines of "we didn't start the fire" as a mic check in case someone requests those songs! If someone requests a song from our wider list, we play it. We once had a larger lady request our version of "Hot me baby one more time" and promised us something special. As we played it she then launched into a half-gymnastic half dirty dance routine resulting in her doing the splits at the front. Some of that dance was inappropriate. We often get asked for songs way out of genre or that we just don't play. It's the anger and upset it causes when we say No that I just can't fathom.
  8. As if I needed a reason.... Seriously, they don't float my boat but I can see why they're attractive to people who like Ukes. I don't want to put a downer on this.
  9. Here's an interesting one... 6-in-1 modulation pedal. Yes, it's a guitar pedal but it also works well on bass. 2x types of chorus, flanger, 2x phaser and vibe. Loads of variation available. One of the knobs has been replaced but all works perfectly. Stero output, expression pedal input, bargain pedal. £35+ postage
  10. A guitar compressor that works pretty well for bass. There's a also a bass mod you can make to these to get them absolutely perfect for bass too. Well regarded Marshall pedal series. I am settled on my Boss LMB-3 so this is up for sale. Very good condition, all working as it should. £30+ postage.
  11. Hey would love to connect on there, what's the radio show all about? Egg and chips too!!!!
  12. I'd play in the metal band as it develops to just get out playing/ rehearsing. It will never hurt to learn something new. If a bluesier band comes along, great, check it out and have a decision to make. Right now it's not a choice. Plus, if from playing metal you've learned some ways to match guitar riffs and some ways to create heavy breakdowns that could lend itself to the bluesier stuff (I'm thinking Black Stone Cherry kind of thing) then you've got a new string to your bow that can benefit the band.
  13. A few years back I was given the idea to put stuff on Instagram. Keeping it music related it was just photos of basses. More recently I've done more photos of basses and tried to advertise gigs but realistically I don't think any of my 90ish followers actually care or attend the gigs, they're just there cos I once put up a nice photo of a bass. Does anyone use Instagram for music stuff? What are you doing with it, keeping a personal record of things, advertising gigs or dep services... Something else? How much effort do you put into it if any? I'm thinking of changing mine up a bit. I had the idea a few weeks back where after feeling like a rock-demi-God post gig getting home at 2am I was brought back to reality by being woken by my kids at 6am and later that day getting excited after buying some tree loppers in Wickes. The juxtaposition of this felt far more real than anything that usually goes on social media. I've thought of doing some kind of semi tongue-in-cheek self deprecating posts that highlight my life as a bassist in a rock band where we can have photos and videos that make us look like superstars... Then actually I get into my Volvo estate and do the tedious stuff everyone does, like taking stuff to the tip... But, who would care enough to read it?
  14. If Fender put F holes in anything it should be an "F" in the Fender font IMO.
  15. Me too! Mine gets played quite aggressively with a pick when I'm gigging it and I often thought I might be bashing the pickup and making them loose. My solution is to now and then try to tighten it with the edge of the pick, but I also keep a small screwdriver from a Christmas cracker in my case for it and properly see to the screws with that when needed and practical to do so.
  16. Sorry meant to say... So it's probably a factory second or B stock or something cos they know it's only getting 2hrs use before perhaps being sold to the highest bidder and hung on a wall forever more.
  17. He used to wrap them in tape to create "unique" basses for shows then sells them after for thousands to someone who gets a VIP backstage pass and the stage used instrument. Have to admit it's a bit of a weird "signature" for someone I'd associate with Thunderbird type shapes.
  18. Tried this last night. The mixer isn't very sophisticated so I'm not sure it's perfect but I think I've managed to get to an even volume across the board by setting my DI Pedal to 12 o'clock then setting levels on all other pedals. It's my Marshall Jackhammer OD/ Distortion that's causing the issue. I need only the tiniest, tiniest smidge of volume on that pedal, and the volume and gain are on concentric pots so I have to be v careful. I've got it where I want it for Saturday without too much fuss though, thanks for the advice on the mixer, would never have thought of that!
  19. You have an awesome brother. And an awesome bass.
  20. I suspected so... £600 or thereabouts and I'd be tempted.
