  1. How are Laney for support? I toyed with getting a Laney rig before I stuck to upgrading my Ashdown from Rootmaster to ABM.
  2. I've had a Spark, not the mini version, for about a year... I can't find the review I did of it but long and short of it is that of you get some decent settings downloaded off the app then it opens up, the settings that come as it is aren't great. Despite its size it's good for practicing with bass, even five string. For electric guitar it's very good, can't remember if I had this while I still had an electro acoustic. I've not yet used it to record but I had a Blackstar BEAM which is very similar and loved how easy that was to record into Audacity on my PC. Hope that helps, or if there's anything specific I'll try my best to help... I've not gone deep into the functions of it but I do give it a lot of use.
  3. Maybe it was the jackhammer I had confused it with??!? 🤣🤣🤣
  4. A long time ago I remember reading that the Marshall Guvnor is good for bass because of its EQ control. I was looking for a decent overdrive because I just can't get the exact sound I want from a drive, they either don't go far enough (the valve drive on my ABM 600) or they go too far with no sweet spot. I took a punt on a Guvnor to do the age old buy it second hand and if it doesn't fit sell it without loss. So far, I'm pleased with it. It gives a nice guitar like overdrive sound but there's a four band EQ onboard as well as gain and level dials. This pedal will be really useful for both fiercely driven sounds but also low gain volume boosts. I haven't played with the EQ much yet but so far I've got the bass on max, "deep" on about 70%, treble at about 20% and mids just under 50%. With the gain all the way up I'm getting a really nice guitar like overdrive sound but with all the low end intact and no piercing highs jumping out, as a lot of even bass drives can do often do. So far, so good!
  5. I've only ever seen them, never heard, and I love the look. However, the only lefty I've seen cost the same as a second hand car, but I'm pretty sure there's a cheaper rockbass version for right handers.
  6. There's loads of other good modelling/ effects included solutions. If you want to use it for guitar too I had a Blackstar BEAM, sold it stupidly, then got a Positive Grid Spark. Both are great little recording interfaces and have onboard effects. There's an old Fender Bronco combo that has integrated effects, it's old tech but the sounds are really good.
  7. Had one for a brief while, the sounds are very good but I couldn't get on with the tracking, sadly.
  8. I won't look at the pictures 😂😂
  9. Now Sold Boxed and with power supply. £125 It's a DI pedal with XLR out. It's a 3 band EQ pedal. It has a distortion with variable level, drive and tone. It's got a compressor with three rotary controls. You can switch the drive to be before or after the compressor. LEDs light up all the dials or you can switch them off. It's a really decent bit of kit and works nicely with active and passive basses. Happy to post at buyers expense.
  10. Nice! I adore my Stingray but I'm really pining for a good jazz. I've got two jazz basses at the moment, they're very good, I'm just being irrational.
  11. Nice! Is there any volume difference between the P and J pups? My bitsa was lovely but I couldn't stand the big volume drop between the pups.
  12. Lefty MM Sterling on eBay, collect from Kings Lynn... No affiliation, just don't want to buy it myself!!! Somehow getting itchy for a new bass...
  13. I agree you're right on the principle, I just think it needs a class-action type thingy to put an end to it. Trying to argue your one individual case against someone on minimum wage to answer the phone is pretty hopeless, as I have too much experience of!
  14. Right or wrong it would be impossible to get anywhere trying to argue it unless you felt it worth it to go to small claims court. I had Tufnells book a pickup and 48hr delivery. Driver showed up three days late after loads and loads of chasing, so the bass was late being delivered. Barely got an apology, terms and conditions exclude them from any responsibility whatsoever but no refund, full or partial, because the terms and conditions basically say YOU PAY, WE MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT DO WHAT YOU'VE PAID FOR, TOUGH SH!T WHEN IT GOES WRONG.
  15. After having a bass roundly abused by DPD, sent all over the country and eventually returned to me looking like Tom Hanks in Castaway I'd always do the following: double-box, it's a pain in the backside but most couriers insist on it; some kind of firm case, doesn't have to be a hard case because that often takes the length beyond what a lot of couriers will take but Thomann do a foam case relatively cheap... I'd either get one of them or find the scabbiest, cheapest hard case possible on gumtree just for the shipping. Although I live somewhere quite accessible I have a family and don't have time to be driving for pickups, I've been left waiting at services for hours like that before. Also, being left handed there's a very limited market and often what I sell has lots of enquiries from abroad. Sadly, couriers are able to just get away with shoddy service and there needs to be some kind of clampdown on their awful terms and conditions that are incredibly bias against the paying customer.
  16. Best thing is to take your main bass once a year to someone you can trust who will give it a set up, check all parts etc. And won't do unnecessary work just because you've asked about it or because it gets them more cash. Of course the more you play the same bass, the humidity, how you store it, etc. Means you may need it checking out more or less often.
  17. It's not just whether they make them it's whether the retailer's even get them. I don't know if it was the case for all of them but back when I was trying to get hold of one the retailer told me they never know when they get stock from Epiphone and even then they don't know what they're going to get in left handed! So they were advertising them but wouldn't let me put down a deposit or reserve one because they couldn't guarantee they'd get one! I lost patience and bought the first one I saw coming up on eBay. No regrets whatsoever!
  18. I've got three of these. I'm not vegan either but it all makes sense. They're good value and last really well. I've got two from the racing series or whatever it's called and one that was supposed to look rusty but instead it's bright shiny bronze. The pick holder at the back is brilliant, I play some of my set finger style and sometimes with picks so it's good to have somewhere reliable to keep them.

    Warwick

Warwick used to make every bass available lefty and/ or fretless. I say used to because I remember them saying that when they only made basses in Germany and a brand new German made $$ was £800. Obviously things are different now! I've owned two Warwick's: a German Streamer LX which was lovely but just not quite perfect (it's been through a few different owners and is now on Reverb at more than three times what I paid for it in the early 2000s) and a Korean made four strong fretless which sounded very good but felt a bit cheap. I played a second hand four string $$ in a music shop a few years back and it's neck was like Giant Haystack's thigh. I didn't mind the meaty neck on my 70s reissue precision but this was utterly ridiculous.
  20. I buckled and bid on the Aerodyne on eBay...! Luckily someone else is prepared to pay more than me! Had always heard that the pickups are a weak point on these, but with a good set in I bet it's a fantastic bass.
  21. That's the plan for my youngest. At only just threw years old he picked up two bread sticks and was air drumming, that's cute I thought... Then he crossed his arms over and I thought "oh, that's quite advanced". Somehow both my kids are left handed which means buying basses is not for me, it's investing in their inheritance.
  22. The PA is owned by the band. The band had been going for nearly 10yrs before I joined. If I leave the band I don't take anything with me. I'm cool with that. I like it this way. If in a band someone said "right guys, I need £325 off each of you to buy some PA kit..." I wouldn't be too happy, but I've joined something established and we build up a kitty to upgrade and maintain gear. I've also had a few sets of strings paid for out of the kitty and once a year they're happy to pay to send my bass off for setups etc. At cost to the band... All this was explained to me when I joined so I'd be a bit silly to want to take out more than was agreed.
  23. Old bands was always an equal split unless we were doing a wedding or function where one of the guitarists set up the PA and stayed on as a DJ after the set, we'd give him a larger share even though he was embarrassed to take it. Present band splits cash as follows: 50% of fee goes into the band kitty to pay for cables, PA kit, etc. The other 50% gets saved up until it's a decent enough amount to bother sharing out. All gig fees are displayed in the band calendar so you can keep track of it. Originally I thought the kitty was excessive but... I joined in December 2001, in May 2002 we played in Amsterdam. Gigs already played paid for all four of us to go on the Eurostar, two nights in a hotel and ALL food and drink while we were there. Couldn't complain with that!
  24. Donner make a good one you can get on Amazon for peanuts. I'll be getting one soon so I can take a smaller pedal selection for my Amsterdam gig in May.
