I used to do that with my Ashdown head unit but I'm trying to trim down the amount of gear I've got and have to cart around. One well placed speaker should be sufficient, though having a stack of 15s did give a certain authority to both the look and sound.

That and re-stocking, selling it to someone else as B stock at a discount.... And so on.
-
It would need to hold a Trace Elliot.

That's awesome!!! Will have to show my daughter (who is nearly 5) and who loves tinkering with my guitars. I always let me kids play with my guitars, even my US Stingray, as long as I'm in the room. If I didn't let them I'd be worried they see music as something they're not allowed to do or they get told off for. I think my daughter will play some kind of instrument, not so sure about my son yet but there's still time....

That's awesome, especially you giving him one of your basses instead of going out and buying a cheap beginner one for him. The bass itself has the connection to you, not just the act of playing bass, hopefully he loves and treasures it.

You know when you buy something without reading the description properly? I wanted a mic stand. I'm not the tallest of people but even so, I got this wrong. Used once while seated. Here's the full description: https://m.thomann.de/gb/millenium_ms2002.htm Pickup from St Albans area preferred. However, postage possible will just need to get a quote beforehand.

Sold. It's an auto tuner. It's a de-esser. It's a reverberator. It's a TC Mic Mechanic. The much sought after version 1. Boxed, with power supply. I acquired this from our very own Happy Jack and I'm passing on the same great deal to you having barely used it. Local pickup possible. Postage equally possible at £5 in the UK. @Happy Jack

Yes and no... To not faff about swapping basses like a prima donna at an audition last week I played a bit of a pop punky type thing with a pick on mine and it was pretty good, brought through some bite with the high end. These really excel at the slappity slap stuff, even for me who isn't very good at it at all, it just seems built for it and the synthetic fingerboard and the treble boost/ cut EQ really helps. You can't get a vintage J bass sound out of it, for example, but you wouldn't really expect to. It's great to stick in a guitar gig bag and travel very light to rehearsals. Sound and feel-wise I find mine best played through a Trace Elliot amp, mid scooped, bashing out 80s covers. Some comments on the neck/ Truss rod... I accidentally discovered that playing a harmonic then bending the neck like I was Slash or something was good fun. I left the bass a while, it got hot in my office, and it was unplayable at the "money" end of the neck. It needed quite a lot of adjustment at the truss rod which needs a metric Allen key. Adjustment done, bass is back in perfect condition and got used in an audition.
-
That looks great in that it's adjustable. Sadly my Trace combo is a bit too heavy for it. The cheaper Thomann one claims to hold 50kg but doesn't have as much adjustment.

It looks like you have! Very nice looking bass. I like the sound of the pickup options too.

Anyone here using an amp stand? Has it made a difference for you at all? At less than £20 I'd like to give one a try but I really am running out of space and would only get one of it made a difference. Context: I had an audition on weds last week and due to limited time just used the rehearsal space's amp. Luckily it was a Trace combo, an older and tired, less feature rich version of my own. I couldn't hear any of my high end in the first song so the band said "turn it up". Instead I boosted the treble on the EQ (though it was already up high) and angled the combo back against the wall. This did the trick. It made me think of getting an angled amp stand for gigs. I've suffered before with a 1x15 on the floor and not been able to hear it with any definition in stage so I was already thinking of getting one....

Shame there was some critical info missing. From the description of the active EQ it seems a lot like my Washburn Status S1000. That has a 9v active circuit that just does treble boost/ cut and acts similar to a master tone pot on a passive bass.
-
I use pick for the attack, playing really fast (faster than I can with fingers) and if I've got blistered fingers. I mostly play with fingers because of the feel, the sound, and I can play more fluidly like this. To change between the two I don't change my EQ I just roll up or down the master volume pot on my bass.

I had the original big battalion for a short while. Decent sounding with a passive P bass, not so much with an active J. Am sure of you want it as a drive for a passive bass it will sound great, I personally couldn't get on with the bass soul food but the Batallion drive was a lot more bass appropriate for me (my playing, my kit) so am sure it would do a decent job for you.

Nice!!! Is this a short scale too?

I'm very keen to have a 5 string jazz. I used to have a V7 Vintage fiver and really enjoyed the pre. However I like the simplicity of passive basses and the roasted maple neck looks amazing. I can't decide... I will find having a pre very useful but being shallow I just love the look of the V5..... Decisions, decisions...
-
I bought this stuff when I was at uni a lot of years ago.... 2002 or 3 it may have been. Its good for cleaning the strings but not so sure on it giving you the slippy feel of fast fret. I've got about 70% of the bottle left. Which means I don't use it often enough!

Brian, I'm chuffed to bits it's gone to someone who knows what it is and will appreciate it. I acquired it in an absolute state and had visions of resurrecting it to play in my 80s band. Though the resurrection happened the 80s band died off before it could get started and with my receding hairline nobody would mistake me for John Taylor, sadly.

Not an early April Fool... As some of you may know I have been cursed when trying to sell a particular bass. I've had offers from credible people who disappear in to thin air as soon as it's time for payment, I've sold it posted it spent the proceeds on a new bass and then found its lost in DPDs system only to appear a month later and after a refund with the original buyer who nicked the knobs off it and sent it back.... Anyhow, I discounted it to below the amount of money the bass and all its new parts and work cost me and sold it to a nice chap in Scotland. I found UPS via a parcel price comparison company but went direct to them for the order having had only bad experiences with intermediary companies booking the courier if things go wrong. So UPS collects from me on Monday and yesterday notified me they had delivered. Then late evening the buyer notified me he hasn't had the parcel. Panic. Here we go again. I called UPS and a helpful person sent me the confirmation of delivery, copy of signature and promised the depot would call me within an hour. Just over an hour later I got a voicemail from a lovely lady at ups who had tracked the drivers route, spoken to him and got a full description of where he delivered the package. I phoned the buyer, relayed the info, then phoned UPS back and said "wrong delivery address" to which they said "ok, we will send a driver back out right now to get the package!". This morning the package is with the buyer. Ok, the driver should not have gone to the wrong address and left the parcel there, but what impressed me was not only being able to talk to an actual person, not just an actual person who actually cared, but an actual person who cared AND immediately had a plan to do something about it. It all sounds so simple, but I've never had that from a courier company before. I know a lot will have horror stories from ups but in the Glasgow area at least they seem to have some good eggs working there.

Very well dealt with by the man in the white shirt. Does he dep for other bands, do you know? Might have a gig for him in November...

That is gorgeous. Not too showy, classic design, executed perfectly in the detail. Awesome 😎👍

I've been warned off that by my Luthier/ set up guy because it was creating some build up around the frets and yellowing on the frets. I do like the feel of strings when it's applied but he told me it's really bad for the instrument... It can't be horrific otherwise it wouldn't still exist, if there's a knack to using it so it doesn't build up on the frets I'd love to know.

Times are changing. When I worked in pubs a pint of Worthington's was 95p. In summer Monday was the only quiet night, Tues was relatively busy but Weds, Thurs were big nights. Everyone was out on a Friday and Saturdays were chaos. Sunday's were busy nights because you had everyone who'd worked Fri and Sat night having their turn, or people getting through their hangovers or after football beers staying in the pubs til closing. People just don't do that these days, not in the same numbers. So the drinks were cheaper, more people were out, the pubs were making good money and spending good money on bands. Now the breweries give them a £250 weekly entertainment budget. They might spend it on music. They might spend it on access to sports events on TV.
