1. Jon has taken this very first snap and said "Its painted up in the white, a couple more coats then it can be flatted and polished."
2. It's good that you've set some parameters (budget, impedance) and I suggest you now make a decision on maximum weight. You are then in a position to monitor the Basschat For Sale threads until something is posted that meets your criteria. By buying a used cab you can always sell it for what you paid if it doesn't suit you. You might find that a nice 4 ohm Schroeder.
3. Two work well together. I found them very transparent, which suits me, as I think of my Shuttle as being similarly transparent. My Shuttle/GS112 rig let me reproduce the sound of the bass and my 'touch' nicely. They were definitely loud enough! They're small enough to fit in cars and can be carried one in each hand. They're not very light in weight though. I'm now trying the Barefaced route out of curiosity, but the good thing about the Aguila's is that they're not so rare on the used market so I feel I can always return to them if I feel like it.
4. In 2006 I came close to ordering an EUB from a guy called Bill Paulin who had just built a prototype for a Brisbane based friend of mine. Unfortunately, I had a Very Bad year, and did not proceed. Recently I recieved a link to show how Bill's moved on with producing more EUB's and thought some folk here might be interested in looking at this thread on OzBassForum
5. Sounds like a bargain to me. Good luck with the sale Jamie.
6. An "it's going to be put on evil bay this weekend" kind of bump.
7. Sorry, I couldn't resist..."Swooshing" made me think of the Douglas Adams quote... I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.
8. Any news on the Walkabout?
9. Something unique happened at my first gig as a fan. I started going to gigs in 1972, mostly at Reading Town Hall. The first event was Jimi Hendrix. Now those Basschatters that have not had to much of the falling down water will realise that James Marshall was as dead as the proverbial Nowegian Blue by then. It was to see a screening of Jimi Plays Berkeley. But this was at a time of industrial disputes. I think it might have been the miners. Anyway, a power cut was a real possibility, so the promoter decided to screen the movie first, and put the "support" band on last. So the film was shown (yeah!) and then on came Californian band Cat Mother and The All-Night Newsboys. In the middle of their set, the power went, but they had a drummer and a conga player who kept on going for about twenty minutes! Bit like Woodstock with the crowd banging cans.
10.
It was a really good day and had a play on a really nice SR5 although the neck was different to mine it sounded awesome, I just can't remember who's it was
I think it t'was mine
11. Ay. Quick thank you from me too. I didn't find the A19, but still got back to Harrogate OK. Hope the Mesa is easily fixable WoT!
12. We can't do, nor anyone I can think of immediately, but thanks for the heads up.
13. Bit of a preview of what I'm bringing...
14.
Aha! I knew that was being built but not for whom. So Shuker P5 Club member number 3 then?
Yes Three shall be thy number for my membership ...And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once at the number three, being the third number be reached, then, lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it."
15. Had one in the late 70s then another in the late 90s. Now I'm 5-string focussed I have decided to get a 5-string P-bass. This time it's a Shuker build. The body has just been painted and when I get a pic of this I'll start a BD. Crucially, I'm after simplicity on stage with one pickup and two knobs, and that's where Precisions score for me ...not to mention that thunderous roar!
16.
A ballpark figure would deffo be helpful as would a photo
Certainly. Apologies for the delay, but I've been laid flat with the 'flu. £150 is the asking price. It's a bit dusty (at the moment) but otherwise it hasn't got any dents or rips. As I said, it was bought for gigging, which didn't happen. Here's some copy, pasted from a vendor's site... The VOX AD100VT packs the amazingly versatile tube sound of Valvetronix into a funky 100 W 2X12 Combo. The VOX AD100VT features the patented VOX Valve Reactor circuit that uses a 12AX7 triode vacuum tube together with an actual low-wattage tube power amp circuit, a virtual output transformer and a dummy speaker circuit that simulates the impedance changes of a real speaker. It also reconfigures itself so that its characteristics are the same as the amps it’s modeling (class A, class AB, negative feedback circuit, etc.). A total of eleven coveted amp types are provided. Starting with the classic AC30 and ranging from vintage to modern, higain to clean, a variety of amp models are built-in, giving you an incredible range of sound-creating potential. Nine standard effects indispensable for any guitarist are built-in. These include auto wah, compressor, phaser, chorus, flanger, tremolo, rotary, delay and reverb. With the addition of combination-type effects, you have a total of eleven effects to choose from. The Vox AD100VT lets you adjust the output wattage from 1~100W so you can lower the volume without losing the sense of drive that’s unique to tube amps. You can get the great distinctive tube sound at a volume that’s appropriate for any location. Vox AD100VT main features include: * Number of amp types: 11 * Number of effects: 11, Noise reduction: 1 * Number of programs: 11 preset, 2 channel. * Input/output jacks: Top panel – 1 x INPUT. Rear panel – 1 x FOOT SW , 1 x LINE/ PHONE, 1 x LOOP RETURN Jack, 1 x LOOP SEND Jack, 1 x EXTERNAL SPEAKER OUT * Power amp output: maximum 100W RMS @ 8 ohms * Adjustable Output Wattage * Speaker: 2 x 12 inch VOX oringinal 16 ohm * Signal processing A/D conversion: 24-bit, D/A conversion: 24-bit, Sampling frequency: 44.1 kHz. * Power supply requirements: AC, local voltage. * Power consumption: 100W * Dimensions: 55.3cms (21.77") (H) x 68.4cms (26.93") (W) x 26.8cms (10.55") (D) * Weight: 29kg (63.93lbs)
17. I've sourced a fretted Godin A5 which is on its way to me. I want to play an acoustic bass in my blues/americana band and chose the Godin as I don't want it looking folkie if you know what I mean. Plus I want a slim bass to be ergonomically similar to a solid body bass. It has black sides and back and headstock but has the traditional spruce front. If I get on with it and becomes a 'keeper', it would be great to have the body front painted black, or black with some cool art on it. Is this a practical wish or should I forget it?
18. Sorry, I'm not now bringing a Barefaced Compact. I'm bringing TWO Barefaced Compacts One's now mine (ALL Mine, I tell you, my Precioussssss) and t'other is the one on tour. Dunno who takes the tour one home on Sunday though? Is there a suggestion that makes it fair 'n all that?
19. Tom traded a Barefaced Compact for my GS112s. He came to my house and we had a nice chat and some trying out of gear. If I had a daughter, she could marry him with my blessing
20. seems like a perfect excuse to get a status streamline to me :
21. Our 16 year-old finds he uses his Vox VT30 most of the time, so he wants to sell his VT100 which he bought when he thought was going to do live gigs (which don't appear to be on the horizon). Will get a picture up shortly, but I think it's in very good order and you might consider it as decent Christmas present for you or your young'uns. He hasn't said a price but you're welcome to start the ball rolling with an offer.
22.
Hope you don't mind me sticking this in your thread. My sister is in Canada at the moment and there's a bass in her house that keeps cropping up in pictures but I don't know what it is and it's starting to bug me. This is the best picture I have of it: I've done a bit of digging and it looks a bit like the sort of thing that was being produced in the USSR / Eastern Europe in the 70's. Does anyone know what this is?
Did it need inflating?
23. I might've bought it if it wasn't headless :snob:
