Alleva Coppolo (sp?). edit- How close we talking? F-Bass do a rather nice take on it which I'd say is pretty faithful.
Thanks. I can't trace the Alleva Coppolo (website down?) but regarding the F-Bass; it's a nice bass really, but not close enough for describing as a Jazz in my humble opinion. The headstock just isn't faintly resembling a Jazz. NB: I'm not trying to find dead ringers, but close enough for mistaken identity will do!

Having seen the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra play twice in the last four years, I maybe would have seen him. I'm so sorry to hear this news. We've all got to go some time, but going whilst you have more in front of you than you have behind, seems unfair and sad for those close by.

Good to see it 'naked' though I feel it looks vunerable like that. Personally, I'm not a fan of cloth grills except for original vintage gear. More for practical protection than cosmetics. Maybe Alex will offer a non-vintage metal grill as an option ...or am I completely missing the point and should stick to knitting and looking after kittens?

For no particularly good reason, I tried to scribble down all the makers I could think of, that make basses that closely follow Leo's iconic Jazz Bass design. These are they... BACCHUS BLADE CELINDER FODERA KEN SMITH LAKLAND MIKE LULL MODULUS NORDSTRAND SADOWSKY SANDBERG SHUKER SEI I'm sure I've left out a few outside of the original Fender stable. So, please post up any I've not listed. A Boy needs lists NB: Please exlude Squire, Fender, plus all entry-level cheapies that sell new at below Squire retail.

I occasionally bob round to the singer's house to quietly go through new material in the kitchen! What I found most useful for amplification is to take (from my P.A.) a powered Carlsboro 10" wedge monitor. It's smaller than just about every small practice combo, yet is rated 100w. No EQ mind.

You've heard of Overwater basses, well I've got Overdrafter basses! I have overspent and now need to thin down and get back in the black. I'm not sure what to lose, but these two are my highest cash value basses, so I thought I'd put out a feeler to see what interest there may be. Here's a couple of pics.
Bonjour Manu, Je déteste le grand canard bleu parce que du pantalon noir. Je suis désolé que je suis en retard. Mettre les chaises sur la table. For those of you who don't speak French, I said: "Welcome to basschat, some decent gear you've got there. Glad to have you on board."
Babel Fish says you said "I hate large blue duck because black trousers. I am sorry that I am late. To put the chairs on the table"

I could see this being a long-term keeper, but I've overspent and am looking around my gear to see what I can just about live without. This is such a good addition to another cab. Kind of understated, until you unplug it and realise what it was contributing. I got it last year and the vendor had replaced the original driver with an Eminence Beta. The improved range [35hz-4Khz] and its uprated power makes it a superb workhorse for the road. The original (200w) is included in the sale, in a box. It's a few years old and in decent condition, and there are lockable castors fitted. I had a vynl cover made for £40 that is included. One thing that really suprised me is how easy it is to handle. I can lift it in and out of my boot really easily, as it is not heavy and the sturdy inset handles help. Plus with the wheels, it's a doddle to move around. It will be used this Friday (3rd July) at the Blues Bar, Harrogate, if you want to check it out in action. I'm looking for £[s]350[/s] £300 cash (edited 13 Sept.), and will drive to meet wthin an hour 'ish of Harrogate.

Scratchplate and control panel parts for USA Jazz V
Born 2B Mild replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in Accessories and Misc
Scratchplate now ordered from http://www.terrapinguitars.com/ thanks to a suggestion from Warmoth. Finding one to fit a 5-string Jazz was quite something! Now just on the hunt for a black control plate (and some shiny chrome knobs). -
Stumbled across here after last nights internet marathon as my amp has transformed into a smoke machine (Bugger) and I was looking for tips on a replacement. Anyway I started playing bass as a young (13) punk in 1977. I was in lots of hopeless and hopeful West London bands until I retired at the age of 21 disenchanted with the mostly dreadful way I felt music was going in the 80s. Fast forward to 2003 and I started playing again for fun at home. Getting back up to speed. In 2006 I met up with some other middle aged rebels and we formed Magic Ship. We're doing OK and gigging regularly (and getting paid!) playing 100% original material. We've released an album. Been on the wireless, headlined the Half Moon a few times, won a Classic Rock Mag 'Battle of the Bands' competition and are generally having a right laugh. It's never too late. I play pretty much the same way as I did back in the day. I can only get on with precisions and play with a pick. Can't do fingers or slap. Like quite a lot of overdrive too. Aren't these Sansamp jobbies great? I got the 'Low End' nickname when I worked as a Saturday boy at Maurice Placquet's music shop in Shepherds Bush. The full story is not entirely bass connected. But that's a story I take to the grave. The 'Bee' bit is my lifelong Brentford FC affliction. Anyway I'm sure I'll be bugging you with many stupid questions from now on.
Good on yer Bee. I think you'll like it here
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a bass guitar instructor in the Harrogate area that is willing to work with an adult beginner. Cheers!
Welcome TK to basschat. There's a few of us in Harrogate on Basschat. We even held this year's (so far) Yorkshire Basschat Bash in Harrogate. Maybe you could elucidate on what things you wanted to be coached on, and then maybe some ideas for teachers can be forthcoming?

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Born 2B Mild replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
When I started out pretending to lay bass, in '73, I aspired to the 'better' fender copies. 36 years later ..I've bought my first one! In a few days I shall take delivery of a Columbus jazz Bass, purporting to be from the 70s. I'll post a pic when I do, and maybe someone will educate me more about what I have bought? -

Good thread from which I hope to learn more. I prefer dark fingerboards to rosewood etc. If I had an idea of cost, I might look at having it done to one of mine.
There are so many different versions, but mainly just try before you buy. The quality can be excellent, but there are some dogs out there. My personal favourite at the moment is the current American Standard Jazz with the through body stringing. No unwanted noises, great tone & lovely finish to the neck. And if you want more shove/sparkle, get either the Sadowsky outboard preamp or the Aguilar Tone Hammer. Best of all worlds there!
I've just got a 1996 American Standard V. I'm really impressed. It's my first through body strung bass, my first Fender 5-string, and it's also my first American made Fender since I had Ps & Js in the 70s. I forgot how cool a Fender sound can be, after preferring a 'modern sound' for so long. And this fiver feels like a four-string to me. Didn't cost much either!

Scratchplate and control panel parts for USA Jazz V
Allparts have black control plates - and in stock now!! If a stock scratchplate is not available I could make one by copying your existing white version. PM me if need a quote.
Thanks Doc. I don't feel I have finished my search for a stock item yet. There's plenty of places that sell Jazz Bass scratchplates, but mine is the 5-string version. I've got the bass now and it sounds and feels bloody marvelous. So I'd like to get it looking neat too. First port of call is a black scratchplate with a white edge, just like the one in the banner at the top of your screen! PS. I have a friend coming over from the states in a month, so I don't mind getting her to bring one over if that's a better route. -

My biggest regret is that Basschat wasn't around in the 70s. I might have got more focussed if it had been. Now on the wrong side of 50 I am finally taking bass playing and the gear more seriously. Oh, and I regret selling all the bass guitars I had in the 70s, including a couple of 4001s and a few Fenders.
