I have noticed an ergonomic thing happening to me when I stand and play, and I wonder if I'm alone on this or if others identify with me and have solved it in someway. Since playing five and six string bass, I have found myself hunching over the neck to see the finger board better. I've just tried (as a temporary experiment) wedging a piece of foam between my waist and the back of the bass body, and low and behold everything is tilting up at me and I don't need to hunch. So, does anyone else experience this and do luthiers ever make compensations in body profile for it? Or have I had too much coffee and am seeing an issue that no one else is bothered about?
Hey, Paul (prosebass)...bit daft that we have to go to York to meet for the first time as we must live within about 5mins of each other..... hey ho Already sorted meeting going up with two others, otherwise we could have gone down in the one car...either way it will be great to finally meet up and see some of your gear.....Dave
It's GREAT that so many are crossing the pennines to come to Harrogate on the 15th, but I can't help thinking there's enough of you Manchester folk to warrant organising yourself a Manc Bash!!!!!! -
Thanks for the deal on the Shure Mics Shaun. Top communicator, and all round 'thoroughly nice bloke'.

Here's a point not covered so far Al. You and I have both added a fifth string this year, and your new direction is relevant to my observation... I've played blues, off & on, since 1974 when I learned Red House Blues by Jimi Hendrix (and it still sends me). In 2008 I started using 5-string bass for the first time in ernest, and this coincided with me joining/forming a secondary band that does some blues. What I have found is that the low B is so cool for blues ...really suits it when wanting go down and moody (especially with flats). But there weren't fivers around in the decades when blues went electric ...so which way do you go? Maybe 5-string Jazz Bass? Oh dear ...GAS alert!

I visited the venue this aft. There's a few sockets but I suggest you pack an extension lead in case your rig isn't close enough to a wall socket. -
I had a bit of a word with b2bm about this topic, his feeling was that everyone bring what they want (even if it means some duplication), as people are bound to set it up differently and it gives an opportunity to contrast and compare. Hope this helps! (Phil, as you are reading this feel free to contribute!)
Yeah, I honestly think that duplication for many things is valid. I was trying some basses in a shop recently and they had two the same. Except they weren't. One put you off buying it and one didn't. Now add to that the differences made after market, and you have some valid comparisons. FWIW I'm bringing... Basschat T shirts for sale
Cool stuff, just been on the phone to the suppliers and requested XXXL sizes so will be able to grab them soon and get them listed as for sale. I think to help me organise myself, I will list bunches of 10 t shirts for sale at a time (the last lot sold within an evening) and stick the next 10 up when I have the first 10 organised and packed, otherwise with high demand and large numbers I might drown in money and shirts!! Maybe I need to employ someone!! ped
If you want some to have on sale at the Yorkshire bash, Ped, you're welcome to post a batch up and I'll take responsibility. -
the bacchus I'm selling has quite a D shaped neck
That looks nice. Would you be bringing it to the bash by any chance? -
Yorkshire Bass Bash - 15th Feb '09 (NOON - 5 PM)
Born 2B Mild replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in Events
Yorks5stringer is kindly pre-printing your avatar name on to sticky labels, to wear at the bash. So, if you are reasonably confident that you are going to make it, please reply on this thread with the word STICKER. Ta -
In toggling between my basses last night, I realised that some were classic, 'C' shaped necks and one (my BB415) seemed much more 'D' shaped. I realised I liked the flatter, thinner feel, compared to the deeper 'C' necks. I use mostly 5 string basses, and aspire to adding a six string bass again. So, I'm tentatively GASsing about acquiring a quality 5 string with a 'D' neck. So, what brands/models are out there that have such necks?
