1. Due to ME wanting to move on, Harrogate based Angie Shaw needs to replace me! I have enjoyed getting a band together to record and perform Angie's original songs, but I'm needing to change a fair few things in my life right now, and can't spare the focus that this rising star deserves. I've used fretless (substantially), semi-acoustic and fretted basses for this band, but double bass (which I don't play) would add even more on certain songs. A weekly slot for rehearsing, recording or performing, is the sort of time demands this gig needs. NB: The rewards are mostly artistic at this stage, rather than financial! If you are interested, have a listen to some of the songs on www.myspace.com/angieshawband and then email Ange via that, or get in touch with me.
2.
Can you completely remove the attack from the audio signal with no unwanted strange artifacts or noises? So to speak, can you make it work as a brickwall limiter?
My lack of familiarity with this pedal prevents me from giving a decent reply without plugging it in first. I will find some time over the weekend and try it out and let you know.
3. I know you don't do 4s particularly BB, but how about a swap for an electro-acoustic Washburn AB10, or a swap for my Six-string XB-600? I'm even in Swinton this Sunday!
4. This would be Good Time for me to win the pools/lottery/premium bonds/beauty contest Then this lovely lady would join my harem. Otherwise, I hope it goes to someone who will look after her
5.
Send me a PM and I'll send you a link for Axesrus regarding gold control knobs at £2.70 each. I ordered mine 2 weeks ago and they work a treat. Excellent company to deal with too, very quick response to emails and quick shipping too. Mike
Do excuse us ladies, but just for a moment, us chaps would like to show each other our knobs. I just got delivery from Axesrus, so here's the before and after ...
6. I would commit bass adultery for lee_b's Modulus Q5 and thedontcarebear's Euro LX-EX5 There are many others scrumptious axes on BC but I currently hanker for a fiver (which in a Douglas Adams sort of way, is coincidentally my available budget right now), and either of these two would look good, tucked up in bed between me and Mrs Born 2B.
7.
There are lots of pictures here.... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=25217 But don't think I'll be selling it anytime soon, as it looks too awesome!
That's Drop Dead G. Maybe by the time you do want to sell it, I'll be in a position to buy it! I'll put 10p in a tin each day ...(checks calculator) so I'll have it for my 64th in 14 years then.
8.
I would prefer that too, but I am not really using my spector so not too bothered at the moment.
ooh, an un used Euro LX fiver. Is their a pic somewhere? Maybe not right now, but if you ever want to move it on in the future, let me know!
9. Thanks for everyone's advice. Some contradictions on the electronics issue though. I have now sent an email to Spector Customer Service about the re-wiring. I can't believe I'm the only Spector user to want a master volume & master blend. Does anyone know if there is a chat forum/thread for Spector?
10. Recently, I've come to a bit of an epiphany on amplification. For years, I've thought the job of an amp was to add/bend/compensate for tone and then pump it out to a sufficiently loud level. Now, since getting a new rig and bass I have altered my view considerably. Basically, I'm now seeing that it is the job of all that wood, strings, electronics, and (vitally) one’s hands that shape the sound. All the amp & cab have to do is to deliver it. So my new Spector, with its pre-amp, is producing a great tone ...then the Shuttle gives it a tiny bit of help with the valve pre-amp and some optional overdrive, but otherwise it acts like a power amp, as I have all EQ controls on neutral; then the two seperate12" Bergantinos just effortlessly allow it all to come through. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but after 35 years of twiddling amp knobs and changing cabs and amps, I’m still in a state of shock that the solution is so simple. Hi-Fidelity gear just allows a quality sound to be heard. No artificial colouring!
11. I bought this recently from the very helpful Clauster, in a bit of a panic before using my new rig live. It turns out I didn't need it, and it has not left the house. It comes with the chip and board to upgrade the pedal to full opto plus (even less noise,) mode, but clauster said "there's so low a noise floor as is (certainly none evident through my live rig), I didn't see the point". He also said "It's loads better than than the original CS3. The standard cs3 is £39. For that you get a pedal that sucks the bass form your tone, injects lots of hiss and does little else. This one has been upgraded with the Monte Allums kit. Great tone, virtually no noise and lots of compression on tap. To get better I'd say you need to be looking at Demeter or Barge Cocepts pedals. Pedal and kit cost me about £60 and there's a fair few hours of work in there too" I'll post it for £50.
12. That's going to be a very light, but very loud rig. I presume your cab will be 4 ohms. My Shuttle 6 is the loudest amp I've owned, and that includes a 1000w Warwick Xtreme coupled with a SWR Goliath Senior 6 x 10. On Saturday, I played a wedding party in a large marquee. I kept on being told to turn down, as it was too much right at the back of the marquee, but get this ...my bass guitar volume was only on about 15% and the Shuttle was on 20%!!! And I was the only one in my loud rock band NOT going through the PA. I reckon you'll be a very happy bunny with a Shuttle/Schroeder combination!

Before and after photo's when done. Anyone know about getting a central volume and a PUP mixing wiring job as per my OP?

15. I'm more at home with analogue than computer based recording, though I do have an MBOX2 with ProTools. I have found the Yamaha AW16G a good compromise, as it records digitally but you have mixer style controls. It's also good for recording several instruments at the same time. c£300 will get you a used one on eBay.
16. I'm blown away with my new Euro 6. I've had it for two weeks now and have used it for four gigs (now benefiting from an hour on Jim Fleeting's work bench), and I'm starting to think about a few things. It's my first Spector, and I'd appreciate some advice from you Spexperts. Firstly, I would much rather have one volume control, and one pick up mix control. This to be instead of the current seperate volume knobs, one for each PUP. Can I just get a guitar tech to sort this, or is it something best done by a Spector Specialist? Secondly, I get a very different sound from the low B string than the E. I'm not used to having a low B, so is this normal? It sounds more muffled, where as the E is like the other strings on this bass, very crisp. I'm also going to get some gold knobs to replace the ex-works ones. NiceGuyHomer has suggested Axesrus but I just wondered if there was another source I could compare choices. NB: This bass is amazing. I was a bit concerned that I was getting sucked in to a mass neurosis on Spectors, but I have to say, the popularity for Spectors is in my mind, well founded. Alas poor Warwick!
17. Reverb's clearance sale of ex-Sound Control gear includes a few Italia basses going cheap. Also, there's a Rimini on ebay right now.
18. Is it like this, but with five strings?
19. Fantastic. I hope the OP doesn't mind we went off in this production direction. I have learned a lot so far from these posts and, if anything, it has raised further, my appreciation of Status & graphite technology. I don't mind coming up with simplistic "why not" scenarios, if they challenge or stimulate discussion. (I dare say Homer Simpson would have put that across even better).
20.
how loud is it acoustically?
It's loud enough for quiet rehearsing and is defintely more naturally bassy and loud than others I've tried, BUT the only time I did a completely unplugged gig (at a folk club) it wasn't loud enough to cut through the conga player and other guitars. I guess physics determines you need a big sound box ...hence upright double basses still rule!
21.
Price starts at £1299 for the basic model
Thanks for the OP. Good to hear how things actually work out, rather than just how good they look. I love the idea of the Streamline, ever since reading the review last year in BGM. It strikes me, that if Rob ever thought about 'doing a Spector' (i.e. set up a production centre in a lower-cost base part of the world) then this lovely Streamline model could be the one to start the ball rolling with. I say this with the blind ignorant assumption that there's a good deal of skill in the R&D and perhaps less rare skills needed to assemble the finished instrument. A £599 Streamline 'made in Czech Republic' could be very tempting, and perhaps stimulate a wider demand for other basses from the Status range.
22. Not on Flea Bay yet. Just haven't got round to it yet. Thought it was time for a bump though.
23.
I played one of these basses last night and fell instantly in love. Fantastic crisp and clean sound with beautiful sustain. Does anyone have one of these basses for sale and if so let me know or does anyone know where I could get one at the right money Cheers Chris 07796277836
Mine's reluctantly up for sale. See this thread
24. A BUMP a week Is hardly a cheek But I need the cash So give this a bash!
