1. I'm offering my black 4-string Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass for sale. Cheapest I can find new, is £525 + shipping. I'm looking for £400. (now revised to £375). Recently added is a Wizzard '84 bridge PUP to give a bit moor oomph (the P-PUP already has shed loads). The variety of sounds from the P&J combinations make this bass highly suitable for cover bands. The previous owner put a strip of red LED dot markers on the neck, but this can easily moved if it's not your style. It's in good condition, but has two minor marks near the input jack and knobs, which I'll try and show in the pics I'll be putting up shortly. I'll post at cost price.
2. How about using the effects in/out loop on the amp?
3.
I dont bother with proper bass magazines, I do read www.bass-musician-magazine.com though
It's new to me too ...but thanks to this post, I'm now a (free) subscriber.
4.
There's an identical (except for the refinish) one on ebay just now : Ebay Andy
I can't imagine it being worth £200+. And Bassassin...your knowledge of 'interesting' copies never ceases to amaze me. You ought to be in the Antiques Roadshow team.
5. I'm a BGM subscriber, but was so disappointed with the last issue (#37) I felt like writing to the Editor (which is still on my To Do list). I do like being exposed to bass players I've never heard of if they have touched the walls, but Charlotte who???? The rest of the mag took no time to finish. Having recently read Guy Pratt's book, I dug out the issue he was interviewed in. That issue is so meaty and interesting that I'm re-reading it. And it will take 10 times as long to get through than the last issue. If anyone from BGM is reading this, please note that you are SO missing out on a win-win opportunity with your website. A) put up all editorial content, once it is say six months old, and B ) make it interactive (web 2.0 'n all that) and C) get an e-newsletter going to anyone that registers. There's advertising revenue and increased subscriber interest in it for them, and accessible content for readers. Duh?
6. The least GAS Guzzler I can think of is Herbie Flowers. In 1959 he bought a prototype Jazz base, and a double bass ...and that's all he has bought in nearly 50 years. Apart from the Roland combo he bought 30 years a go, and a Trace Elliot 20 years a go. He doesn't change strings in between decades either. Not one to take a walk on the wild side, really!
7. I bought brand new, when they first came out in 2004, a Behringer BA1x15 and a BA2x10. They had aluminium style cones. They did not last long, literally. Within a year, the cones disintegrated, rather like a window that has had a stone through it, leaving a hole. Maybe they've got better, but I won't go near their cabs again. Second Hand cabs are definitely the thing. If you don't mind weight, then you should pick up a bargain on Basschat, as many of us on the wrong side of 40 are going premium/light and shedding the back-breaking beasts accordingly.
8. It ended at £620, not making reserve. I think the suggestion made earlier about removing the neck to reveal more on the date of manufacture, could have helped. I'm sure the bass is genuine, as is the integrity of the vendor, but you can't blame sceptiscm creeping in on vintage guitars that do not have enough supporting evidence.
9. For me, this thread automatically made me think of Richard Sinclair's bass lines, often accompanying his own melodic singing, when he was in Caravan, Hatfield & The North and Camel. Maybe not hip now, and all that, but check out his bass and singing when delivering these very English lines... Now it's time to finish your wine - try to sing a sober song after all that din And even though we may be having quite a laugh, bashing bass and drums is really rather daft compared to harmonies - although they may sound twee, they're really what my lady friend can relate to - and her mate too... Just in case you think it's a waste In the end, choosing notes to see if they make friends A D-sharp minor flattened 5th will go to C, dotted crotchets usually divide by three We don't really know now exactly what we mean, still we had the gist of it till the chords changed... ...unexpectedly... an interesting thought came over me I'd feel better somewhat wetter, drinking tea in the sea, and dream of you - and your nice black knickers... 10.
Was it this? There was a thread about it here the other day.
Oi Oi! http://www.myspace.com/normanwattroy
11. I have a large holdall for carrying cables and the like to gigs. It got wee'd on by one of our cats. It was really smelly, and I put it in the washing machine and left it out on the line to air and dry. It worked! So, you might try that with the gig bag.
12. I was once a Berkshire Boy, but happy to have my fiver recorded as another Yorkshire contribution.
13. Have you had a support band or artist that subsequently became more famous? Here's my starter for ten... In 1978, I the was playing bass for amateur hopefuls, Lorelei. The gig was Wokingham Rock Club and a support band was arranged by the venue. After the sound check, we went for a pint (as the club was not licensed) and came back in time to see a band, consisting of youngsters, finishing their set. What struck me was the size of the drummer’s kit. I remember it as a 13-piece gold Premier kit, which was a bit out of the usual to say the least. In the changing room I asked the drummer where he had got the kit from. He said his father was given it by Keith Moon. And then I found out I was talking to a 13-year old Zak Starkey!
14.
THo IMHO MY Mark Bass LMII beats all of 'em for warmth & versatility AND definately for weight- what is it? 6.5lbs I carry it in an old laptop bag-w/ room for leads etc as well! GREAT amp w/ far more power than any of the Ampegs I mention. I've NO experience w/ a 4 PRO tho
About an hour and a half's drive from you Jamie, is Mark's demo barn (Bass Direct). IMHO you should go and do some A/B testing of Mark Bass & Genz Benz class D amps. You'll end up either ruling them out, or finding a lightweight solution. Plus you can try out some of his Jazz Bass Fender alternatives!
15. I open the bidding with £100
16.
He's also inviting emails - so I've sent him one and asked about the issues we're raising here.
Well done Dr D. I look forward to seeing what you get in the way of a response.
17. Saw this on eBay and looked up the serial number on the Fender site. What I don't understand is this serial number ... S8849690 appears to be one digit too long. Anyone shed a little light please?
18. I wasn't there, but us old gits can be a bit shy at sharing names. P'raps name badges next time ...both Avitar & real. Bit forced, but at the end of the day, blimmin' useful
19. Have a great time folks. I would be there, but I'm doing a Sunday afternoon slot at Harrogate's Blues Bar. I hope another Yorkshire Bass Bash happens, so I can make it. Maybe you can add comments on your experiences, on BC, so us absentees can see what we missed?
20.
If i had a double neck, I'd go for a BassLab one: http://www.basslab.de/ Simply because their carbon fibre construction means that they only weigh the same as a normal bass!
Vorsprung durch Technik !!!!! Interesting. Thanks Alpha-Dave for bringing this to our attention. I'm more of a 'English Tea in the rose garden' kind of guy, so this isn't my bag. However, I can definitely see the advantages of headless in a twin-neck. I could see one looking good in the Status family.
21. Hi folks. I'm getting a nice trickle of enquiries about this cab via PM and that's great ...keep 'em coming. Just thought I'd say that I'm off out now to watch Thea Gilmore, so won't be responding to any fresh messages until later. B2BM
22. I bought "Gig-Getter: How to get more gigs than you can play is a brand new step-by-step guide for amateur or semi-pro bands and musicians." from http://www.gig-getter.co.uk It's not rocket science, and like most guides and seminars, you realise you knew most of it already. However this guide serves as a focus and a check list. What's more it is a UK publication, only £15 and is written by a bass player.
23.
Hi Phil, how about a swap for an Ampeg PB-210H?
Thanks for the offer Kieth, but I'm all cabbed out now. NiceGuyHomer delivered both Bergantinos last night. Now I have to pay for them ...hence the sale of the Schroeder. You are welcome to take it away and try it out though.
24. Save me from having to putting this on EvilBay!
25. Hey Paul h, Has it arrived? What's your critical view on it, and how much did it finally work out at? We wanna know!
