You'll have to listen to him lecture you about how he's one of few people in the world who truly knows how to set up a guitar properly. Never had a guitar set up by him though, I could never get past his bullshit.
i know what you mean, but he seems a good guy. Maybe he's just trying to warn people from tinkering with stuff iof they don't understand it. I brought a bass from him on monday.
This guy is great and has a base in Bristol near the bus station. http://www.edgeguitarservices.co.uk I have no hesitation is recommending him in terms of price and quality of work
He's very very very busy. Ideally I'd like something nearer because I don't like travelling around with guitars on buses (particularly as i don't have acase). I'm afraid Wiltshire is too far.

What about the other shop in Bristol near the bus station: rikaxxe (iirc)?

a month?! there's only one music shop in weston now, and presuming it's that one they wanted to charge £2 for a piece of plastic to lock a strap in place.

Are there any? My new bass could do with a set up.
I can recover the text and images from your previous posts to save you re-uploading them if you like, just Pm me. Cheers
No thank you. I have the pictures, you can just delete the post. I cannot spare £7 to bet that I might get a sale. I also don't like uploading credit card details to websites (and i don't use paypal), so being invited to do so is not helpful to me.
under the title there is the "rules and guidelines for the marketplace" every time you look at one of the sales forums it's pinned in as one of the top posts "rules and guidelines for the marketplace" if that's too unclear 50% of the respondents to this thread have a link in their sigs.... really is it asking too much of people to read instructions or rules?
I saw no reason to assume this would be an issue. Had the create a thread function checked for a subscription first, it would be preferable. This i think would be a better way of doing things otherwise it's just a mess as my thread is now in the ether which just makes the admin job harder.
But it is also worth contributing a little dosh to help the site continue, whether or not you are selling. This lot doesn't come for nothing.
But i'm only being charged in this one instance. If you want to charge a subscription to the site then by all means do so. I
£20 for unlimited adverts is bl**dy cheap compared to the c.10% fees on eBay/Paypal and gets you a specialist bass audience, many of whom have really helpful feedback threads to help with the trust side of things - and if its a low value item (less than £50) it costs you nothing to advertise Up to you
That's fine if you are a profesional seller where it might be profitable. It would even be fine to be charged on a succesful sale. I can't justify this to just list one item with no guaratnee at all of a sale.
-
So i have to pay to advertise? Could you not have made this clear in the first place? I've posted the advert three times and gotten this message as well as uploaded a bunch of images. £7 to place an advert is quite ridiculous.
-
I have tried listing something for sale and everytime I click to Post the message I just get directed to a page asking for donations. I don't want to make a donation, why is this happening? Are you saying that only people that pay you can advertise? If so why not make this clear before i take time creating and advert and uploading images? I can't even see if the advert has correctly uploaded because, again, i get this link.
A while back I went out shopping for one of these and came home with a Vintage Icon "Jaco" fretless J. Nice rosewood fingerboard and the pickups and hardware were better than the Squier imo, felt a better quality instrument all round really. Twas a bit cheaper than the Squier too.
I have never seen those on sale, i wouldn't buy one online without being able to try it first.
One of biggest turn off's must be dealing with people who come into a shop and firstly haven't got a clue what they're talking about and secondly are not willing to listen to advice. If you follow my drift.
Not really. Your response is childish and traduces what is actually a serious and legitimate question, but if you think it's ok to rip people off then you aren't worth my time. Thanks.
+1 If you have something against cheap instruments then don't buy one, but don't knock the choice of others. If you want buying advice then that's fine, but tell us what you think you want in a bass. You can't beat trying out in a shop though. Then you can be the judge of a good bass, as others have said.
Most shops are staffed by people who either won't give you the time of day if they don't think they can make a (significant) sale. are interested in selling you what they want to sell, regardless of whether it's any good or suitable for you. Of course trying stuff out is great, but again you can only try what they have and shops tend to be fronts for a particular brand, whether or not it's any good, and because they are shops you are likely worse off in terms of value for money.
-
Firstly in a shop you get to try the bass. That solved your problem. Secondly, so you don't need a budget bass. That's fine, but why do you have a beef against those who do? And I'd suggest that not all cheap basses are "polished up tat"
I don't have any such beef. I said nothing of the kind.
-
How do you know what's a good bass when buying from a shop? Specifically when spending a relatively low sum (~£200) Shops want to make money (duh) and have a markup (unlike private sellers) and a company whose products they want to push on comission. Low price instruments seem a waste of money frankly. I don't need a beginner tool, but i don't want to waste money on some polished up tat under the guise of 'budget bass'. Thanks.

If you look at the thread linked in the above post you'll get a better picture. I personally find it too big and the neck too wide. The E string is much louder than the other strings. The intonation/action can be adjusted and seem more or less ok to me. I'm not an expert. There's some slight buzz on the 1st fret A string, 10th fret D and 7th fret G string. Not really sure given all the guitars you already have why you'd be interested though. And someoene is telling me, a bit late, not to reduce the price. -
