Oh sorry, I mean the modeling and things that come with the unit ...
Ahh yeah, the other thing i forgot to mention was that certain 'models' have more of that high pitched noise than others... The bypass setting (position 1) seems to leave my stingray slightly lacking in really low bottom end frequencys (like the ones you feel not hear), and that slight hissing noise is ever so slightly audible (completely irrelevant when playing with a group..). To combat this I usually set the rotary switch to position 9 ("rock") which seems to seems to do nothing other than restore that lost 'sub'bottom end and remove the (ever so) slight hiss. The 'rock' setting does not give a particularly rock sound, i use it for bigband jazz and funk on this setting too... the other settings are all usable, but are nothing that cant be achieved by EQing - they are more like a group of pre-set EQs. the battery life is not outstanding, but perfectly adequate, I have done a 2.5 hour rehersal and a 30 minute gig on the same set of batteries, but as the transmitter takes AAs i just have a couple of rechargeable ones which i interchange when needed. The transmitter also has a handy mute function which I didn't know about before i got it! All in all it is an outstanding little unit for the price, and once the cable has been replaced with a quality one, i cant fault it.

I havnt used it with effects yet, but I can try it, I have a fx25 filter and a multifx, i'll give it a go and report back!

Just to update, I ended up going for the Ashdown freebass, and as was mentioned earlier there was a high pitched noise, but other than that it was excellent, so i replaced the (cheap) cable that it came with, with a quality one from Obbm, and the unit is almost totally noiseless. I have been using it for almost a month and have had no problems whatsoever so far!
I find angled pickups incredibly ugly as well as uncomfortable for resting your thumb on when playing finger style, so unless there is a very good and provable reason for doing this (ie you can hear a significant improvement in tone with them at an angle) I'd go with them straightened up.
Thanks, I prefer the way they look, but it didnt occur to me that i wouldn't be able to rest my thumb on the pickup. (duh!) I will probably go for a single musicman style pickup any way!
Hi Wooks, Spookily enough I think I spoke to you when you rang Barry at Street Level in Southsea asking if he could get a Stagg EUB for you. So how are you? Yes you can play the Stagg sitting down, I use a stool as this stops the bass from swiveling while playing as mentioned earlier. To overcome this I've made a stand using a base from a cymbal stand with the top from a guitar stand fitted into it. The "u" shaped neck support is the right width to hold the waist of the Stagg and so hold it up. It makes playing easier and means you can walk away from it when finished/taking a break without having to worry about finding a safe place to put the instrument. There is also no problem with bowing the Stagg either, the neck and fingerboard are the same dimensions and shape as a conventional upright. It sounds good bowed as well Due to problems with my wrist (see RSI thread) I'm considering selling my Stagg, so if you want to PM me we can discuss the nitty gritty or even getting together to see if the Stagg is indeed the instrument for you. BTW I have heard there have been problems with the NS stands breaking, although this may just be the WAV version. Tim
iff you do end up selling the stagg, i would be interested!
