I've got a markbass f500, and its insanely loud for its size! I'd be tempted to look for a 2nd hand F500 or F1 (which is quite similar) or a little mark 11 (although it is slightly larger) if I were you. at 2.1kg the F1/F500 weigh next to nothing!
You are right he only had two Ampegs on stage...
There was another head (not sure if a cab too, not a 8x10 anyway) behind those two. It was facing the left of the stage. (as wee look at it)
I got a Piranha lead free with something. It comes with a Neutrik Silent Jack plug which is really handy, it cuts the signal as you pull the plug out of your bass. Dunno if they last, anyone got any experience with them? Seems like a simple switching mechanism so hopefully it's OK.
OBBM does those!

Yeah, I noticed that he had a few nice Laklands when I saw them at finsbury park, Sounded awesome!
The other extreme.... Last Satuday - Churchover Village Hall. Bass player and Lead Guitar player load car and drive 100 yards to village hall. Lead Singer drives 300 yards with kit to village hall. Drummer carries kit 10 yards across to village hall from the barn next door. Rhythm guitarists walks 20 yards carrying kit to village hall. Played for 2 hours then did it all again in reverse - all with no lost items of clothing! Sue
I think I can match that! We did a wedding a few weeks ago: Me and tenor sax player (girlfriend) walk 15 feet form my house to the venue, Drummer picks up alto player and drives <1 mile to he venue Guitarist and bari player walk 200 meters from their houses to the venue. The drums, and backline all live in my garage anyway, so could be carried the 15 feet to where we were playing! Perfect gig!
Hmm, I was more looking for a passive bass to be honest, kinda fed up with messing about with EQs on my bass, an passive seems to work nicer with some effects pedals (Maybe it's just the basses/pedals I've tried, I don't know, but the active basses all seem to make my chorus pedal distort a bit on the lower notes). Plus I'd have to re-wire that bass so it's vol/vol, seems like a bit of a pain tbh...Although I guess since I'm going to be doing some wiring anyway when I install new pickups, I may as well...I dunno, I'd have to try one first I guess. I'll look into them for sure, I can always make them passive I guess. also, just noticed that Hipshot do brass or aluminium bridges, what's the differences between the two? Is there any tonal difference? sustain etc? the brass ones are more expensive, but only by £10 or so, so I'd like to find out, I want this bass to be perfect!
The volume pot on the cort is a push pull switch, pull to make it passive... It would be a great bass for upgrading, I want to put some new pups in mine at some point!
Are these all cables that have been made up? Like when it says '29cm George L cable @ £2' is that a 29cm cable with jacks on it, or is it just 29cm of cable? I'm assuming when it says 56 x George L right angled jacks @ £4 each those are just the jacks with no cable?
I doubt that If the jacks are £4 each, your going to get a made up cable with two jacks on it for £2 -
Pink!

You should also try the 'Bassists wanted/available section of this website, (or have this tread moved there..)
I think some of you are being very over ciritical of Laurence Cottle - he's a stupendous player who'd eat most of us here for breakfast - and has plenty of original ideas - check out 'Shock!' with Gareth Williams if you doubt it. Cheers Mike
+1 He's an insane musician!

Apparently its all normal! phew! thanks for the help!
-
Ahh, I'll ask over there now!
-
Thats reassuring! Its definitely not the fan, as its coming through the cab quite loudly! If anyone who has one can confirm that theirs does it too, I'd feel alot better!

Ive not had time to recordings yet, but there is an interesting new development. The amp makes a noise when turning off, its only done it twice, but it doesnt sound right! The noise is like a drop falling into a glass of water, kind of an upwards whistle! (completely different to the whistley hiss!) Any ideas? Do you think i should send it back? Edit: I've just noticed that it only makes this noise if you turn it off soon after turning it on. If you leave it 30 secs before turning it off again its just a small click. Can any other F500 (or F1) owners see if theirs does it too?
-
Yeah, thinking about it, doods comment about the power amp makes sense, You can get rid of it by turning the level of the tweeter right off.. I'll try and record some samples and see what you think!
-
Hmm, i'll try and record it so you can see what you think! I cant decide whether is a hiss or a whistle!
Its probably nothing, but best to always check
Thats what i'm thinking!
Hmm Its a Ray with an F500? Do you have you mids/highs boosted a lot on your bass?
I dont, but I mean that even with no bass plugged in or the volume turned right down on the amp there seems to be an inherent hiss through the tweeter. I might be making too much of it!
-
Hi! What do you mean by hiss? There is a certain 'noise' with nearly all tweeters, especially if you run your treble high and have the tweet on full. My DB212 makes a VERY slight noise near the tweet but you have to really listen for it. Thats with a very similar LM3. Usually I have tweeters on max 1/3...or off.
The noise is the same whether the treble is up/down or the amp is muted/on full. The his almost has a pitch to it (but not really!) Its only very slight, only noticeable at quiet practice levels... If its normal im not bothered at all!
-
Does anyone here have an aguilar GS112, Do you find that the tweeter on your Gs112 makes a very slight (very quiet) electronicy sounding whistly hiss? (That makes it sound worse than it is!) Its not really bothering me, but I want to make sure its not a dodgy cab! You can only hear it when the tweeter is on (regardless of settings on the amp..) Edit: see further down!

For me, it would either be an igig/mono gigbag, or custom earplugs.
