Are Mexican basses really underrated ?

Couple of weeks ago I picked up a 1996 MIM PBass in vintage white...... absolute bargain. plays lovely + looks lovely = one happy chappy -
I used to be in a rock covers band playing the usual ac-dc, phonics, KOL, etc stuff yawwwnnnnn in which the set would last a life time, dont get me wrong though I loved most of the tracks, but I rightly agree very boring to play. Last two years been playing in a Ska band, different kettle of fish now, some excellent tunes to play, very busy on the fretboard and the set fly's by with every gig leaving me wanting to play another set!

I play 98% of our set without a pic, but to get the nice 'chug' sound that a couple of songs sound great with, I use Jim Dunlop Nylon 0.88mm. not to soft...not to hard....just right.......luvly jubbly!!
I can`t say i coveted a Warwick, but decided i wanted to learn to play a bass. After researching opinions, i really wanted one, so i bought a Warwick Fortress. Not knowing any different, i thought it was ok. After getting the Clover Avenger on an impulse buy, the Warwick seemed a massive disappointment. After hearing so much about Stingrays, i would like one.
I may just know of one for sale Timmo
I have now owned and sold 3 stingrays, I still love the look of the bass I just don't get on with them....maybe if I found the right one...... noooooo see I still want one

This. Exactly this. And the one about a 4001, too...
haha rays have that appeal.....a wooden temptress
I think disappointment might be the wrong word but certainly I've bought basses thinking they would be the answer to all my problems and then sold them on because they didn't get played enough. I've been GAS free for years now but reckon I've owned almost 100 instruments. The bass guitar I play the most now is a Squier but I went through a few vintage instruments (worried about them getting damaged or nicked) and some high value basses like Rickenbacker (ditto). I enjoyed the GAS thing at the time but it's a bigger relief to appreciate what I have these days.
yes i think "disappointment" is a bit harsh. As I say its a lovely bass, but just dont get my juices flowing like the Modulus FB i had, perhaps i may be pining for that

Hey all, I've longed for years for a Stingray after trying one out just after starting to play many moons ago. Back then there was no way I could afford one (getting married, kids popping up everywhere, etc). Since then I have been fortunate enough through a little bit of buying/selling to have come across some nice high end basses that have come, gone and stayed, but a ray has never crossed my path. Until just recently........ when low and behold I managed to get hold of one....but it dont just get my juices flowing like i hoped it would. Dont get me wrong its a beautiful bass and many years ago I would have traded some toes for one. But after playing Pbasses/jazzes and some others for the last few years.......i'd prefer them. Anyone else have that happen to them?
