1.
+1 on family and business, but please, Bret needs to stick to making the tea and be kept away from patronising both existing and potential clients on the internet.
I couldn't agree more. What customer liaison officer worthy of the name would even consider telling disappointed clients that they are “banging on”, whatever the facts of the situation? Good luck with the new business model, Mr Letts - with colleagues like that working for you, you are going to need it.
2. There's not much more classic in the bass world than a black/black/maple US Fender ... My first bass was one of these - albeit minus the chrome covers, and a bit later - bought new in 1981, heavily influenced by JJ Burnel and Algy Ward (The Damned). Fond memories!
3. I'd take an MTD CRB 5, thanks! Had a go on the trans black and rosewood one at Bass Direct the other week - best sounding and nicest playing P-bass I've tried in many, many years. Doesn't look much like a P-bass, admittedly, but for me tone and feel are much more important than how Fendery it looks, and fit and finish are superb for the money.
4. IMO this is hands down the most desirable bass currently up for sale on this Forum. It might even be the most desirable bass that has ever been put up for sale on this forum. And for a bass of this quality and rarity the price is almost embarrassingly low. In your position I think I would simplify things somewhat differently, by selling everything else and just keeping this bass, but I guess you must have very good reasons for wanting/needing to part with it. Anyway, some lucky Basschatter is going to get a Ferrari for Fiat money - I just wish it were me!
5. Amazing. IMO these are the best 5-string basses money can buy. And this looks to be an absolute bargain - a new one with this spec would cost well over £4000. GLWTS
6. Yes, I started out on P-basses but later on got frustrated with their tonal limitations and moved to Jazzes and Rays, and more recently MTDs (which are really Jazz 2.0). I still love the sound of a good P-bass (or more precisely, the two sounds of a good P-bass - tone control on 10, and tone control on 0), but would not want to be stuck with just that.
7. What essexbasscat said. Even Jaco practised on a fretted Jazz at home - he used the fretless for recording and concerts.
8. Mick recently bought my Sonic Blue MIJ Jazz, and it was an unalloyed pleasure to deal with him. Superb and super friendly communications, prompt payment and he even sent my youngest son (who was particularly fond of this bass and had been a bit tearful to see it go) a picture of him rocking out with the bass in order to show that it had gone to a good new home. How thoughtful is that? All the best, Mick, and enjoy Sonic the Wonderjazz!
9. Danny recently bought my EBMM Stingray 4H, and I can't think of a better person to sell to. Great communications, prompt payment and he routed his journey from South Yorks to Nottingham (or was it the other way round?) via Birmingham to collect in person - which was great as it was a pleasure to meet him in person, too. Toppest recommendation. All the best, Danny, and enjoy rocking out with the Destroyer of Worlds!

Very belated note to say what a pleasure it was to sell my Oly White AM Standard Jazz to Barrie last year. Excellent communication, prompt payment, and he even drove to Birmingham to pick it up in person. My only regret is that I was not at home to meet him in person when he turned up. The missus was in, and says he was very nice! All the best, sir!
11. Sold! Thanks for all the interest in and appreciation for this killer bass.
12. Good luck with your sale, peterkas!
13.
The birds where I live are talking about this... They keep saying "cheap..cheap".. sorry I'll get me coat.. GLWTS
Yes, I thought it was a bargain, too - but it hasn't stopped people sending me PMs trying to chisel the price down even further! It's not happening, folks - £650 + postage is a very fair price for this instrument.
14. That clear pickguard works, too, mind.
15. Gorgeous! Add a white pearl pickguard and it would be off the scale, looks-wise.
16. It really saddens me to see that this lovely bass has still not sold - I guess it just shows both how underrated Mayones basses are in general, and how much of a niche interest 6-string bass playing still is, in the UK at least. But hang in there, ambient, a buyer will come along eventually!
17.
Oh lord I really want this... I have the money but... Arggggh! Fave colour combo and everything.
I'm feeling your pain, Shockwave, but in a sort of reverse form - 'Oh lord, I really want to keep this, but … four strings … five strings … but … but … Arggggh!'
18.
A really lovely bass at a great price. Sorry I can't buy it, I'll recommend it to a couple of people though.
Thanks! Please do.
19.
Clucking Bell! Who put the strings on that?
Guilty, M'Lud. Actually I had completely forgotten about this! Last string change was just before a gig, where I didn't have my pliers with me (usually I trim two strings past the post). Sufficiently shamed into putting a fresh set of Ernie Ball Slinkys on, and do a better winding job - will do that later!
20. Classic bass, bargain price!
21. Back up for sale. Was on hold for someone who turned out to be a complete time-waster. So it goes ...
22. Fantastic colour/fretboard combination!
23. Those G&Ls are both gorgeous - can't decide which I like best!
