Awesome tune! Anyone around London should get down to Phil Simmonds W3 jam night. The percussion player & tenor sax are both regulars there!

Joss Stone's version of You Got The Love. A prime example of "it's about the groove, not the technique"
I never get intimidated by the 'its hard' arguments because people say that about fretless and, whilst there is a nugget of truth in there, all they are really saying is that there is another problem to solve. Thme solution is to solve the problem, not throw in the towel. Milliions of violinists play in tune without frets and millions of sax players play soprano in tune. Why couldn't I? I want to have a go, that's all. Need to sell some kit to pay for one.
I didn't mean it like that Bilbo, i know your not one to shy away from hard work. I know your not planning on playing Brecker lines over night

I live with a sax player, he's got a pair of silver selmer's. A soprano and an alto. I've attempted to play both with a tuner in front of me and the alto was definitely easier to keep in tune as there is less work to do with your tongue and mouth muscles. IMO saxophone isn't an instrument you can just dabble on if you've got 5 minutes.
Having played a lot of drums to click - yeh, you can "push and pull", but that's not the same as tempo changes which can really contribute to the "feeling" of a song.
I used to have tempo changes in my originals band. Because they were there naturally before we started using sampling we worked out the changes. If its an actual tempo change as appose to speeding up in the chorus because your excited it shouldn't be an issue with a bit of practice.

Gear stolen from Halifax, West Yorkshire
JakeBrownBass replied to peteb's topic in General Discussion
I'm originally from Huddersfield so i'll get some mates to keep a look out. I can't believe he'd leave that gear unattended in a car in Halifax though! -
The body shape looks like a Tobias Growler with a fender-esque headstock. Edit, Seems its a copy of Carvins Bunny Brunel model, made by Gibson. I believe Gibson made the Carvin bass originally.
sounds good, do you play fretless bass? i can imagine it sounded really good in that mix

Really good sound.

Some really good stuff on this forum.Sounds like an interesting project from a bass playing point of view. Yes, I agree. fretless.
Cheers guys, took a Precision out with this group on tuesday & used a full kit with the drummer. Here's a review i found of it. -
Hey peeps, "The Voice Of... Lithuania", Battle Shows have already been aired on TV last Sunday, you can check out a few clips: MJ - The Way You Make Me Feel: http://www.youtube.c...e&v=j0heDem-6ho A. Bocelli & Ch. Aguilera - Somos Novios
Couldn't stand the vocals on the MJ track. Any reason you chose your electric over synth on that one?

Nice transcription mate, would be even better if it had the chords on it you could analyse what he's playing!

I've got a stagg case and the velcro that comes with it is useless. Get some proper heavy duty stuff for your pedals. You can also use some heat to melt the glue to try and get a better grip.
-
Are you talking about your Shuker bass? Probably best speaking to Jon about it, if the 21 fret neck you already have isn't needed he can probably re use it and sort a deal with you.
Jake, I really enjoyed that! Great playing by all, but hey what a fantastic singer that young lady is.
Aha she's not bad is she
That was really good. All great musicians, hope you all go far.
Thanks mate, really appreciated.
The topic and the perceived age of you all suggested that I may not like this (sweeping generalisation!) 10-12 yrs playing is all good but that's still plenty of time to learn bad habits like over-playing and self indulgence. It should all be about the music, the song, the melody, the groove and how people play together to serve the aforementioned. But you know this. Good work.
Thank you.

I wouldn't doubt Nick just yet, he's still posting on Facebook about up & coming features & events for the magazine. It's always going to be difficult starting a new product.
Hey Jake, it`s a wedding/functions cash generator! Any numbers you have though will be welcome.
I'll pass some numbers on this weekend, if i forget, remind me Best solution i've worked with for bands that like to change form of the songs etc is for your drummer to use a Roland SPD-s/x. If your drummer knows how to use it, you can bring in loops/samples/horn parts from the hit of a pad. This is the set up i use in my band at the moment. I've also toured for almost 4 years doing the mono route, L channel click, R channel sampling.

I think your question is more directed at chord charts than the theory behind what notes are in the chord. In the picture below you from left to right, C major 7 C minor 7 C dominant 7 C half diminished 7 C fully diminished 7

Is this for an original project or a band that's making money. If it's the latter i know loads of keys players in Manchester that can properly play, but they only play for money generally.

Which bassline inspired you to pick up the bass?
JakeBrownBass replied to skej21's topic in General Discussion
Thinking of modern recognisable easy tunes, how about the intro to 'Forget You'. If you know a lot of tunes maybe wait and see what type of people you get in and then pick a tune you know that they'll appreciate. -
Many thanks to everyone who took the time to reply. In the end I decided to go with the Mono bag. I've seen one in person and it appeared to be the lightest of all the semi-rigid bags. Turned up today and from a weight PoV I'm glad I didn't go with one of the others because even this one is already noticeably heavier than my Ritter and this is supposed to be the lightest of this type of gig bag. It doesn't feel quit as comfortable on my back as the Ritter either, but then again it's all brand new and still very stiff. I'll reserve judgement on that until I've used it for a couple of weeks. In every other respect though it seems excellent and there's a lot more storage space than the photos on the Mono web site had me believe. I'll write a more detailed report in a month or so time when I've had a chance to wear it in and found all the things I really like and those that I think aren't so goo.
Great choice mate. They really are top quality bags. Weights always going to be a compromise for protection but i find once it's on your back you don't really notice it when compared to other bags because of the wide padded straps & chest clip. In terms of it loosening up from new, there isn't much give on it, its made to be a pretty solid case!
