It must be great having your head in the clouds. But when you get to the real world, an employer will have no problem chucking your CV straight in the bin. There are still people going after proper degrees these days, after all. Well, you might not get a career per se but a music degree may get you a job. There will always be toilets in need of scrubbing and burgers in need of flipping, I suppose.
What your missing is that when studying music it's not about the piece of paper at the end of it. It's about developing yourself as a musician in a place with like minded people. Also, expand on what a proper degree is please. Seems everyman & his dog has a degree nowadays so surely its about real life experience. I'm sorry but your way to narrow minded about the situation & your comments are pigheaded. I'm in uni, i pay my way from working outside of uni, my work outside of studying music is music. Get my point? If you've got the drive to want to make a living from music, you can. Fair enough i won't have a fancy car, a fancy custom single cut, a really nice house etc.... but what i will have is the feeling of waking up everyday and going to work doing the job i love & chose to do.
I say this all the time, but studying music at University has to be one of the silliest ideas going these days. It's a lovely thing to do if you have no aspirations to own a house or get a job, but in the real world, a music degree is as much use to an employer as as a wad of used toilet paper. You might enjoy indulging your hobby for a couple of years but beyond university and the meagre pickings of the music world you'll not have much to show for the colossal debt you've accrued.
What absolute drivel. I think that's the silliest thing i've ever read on this forum!

To make money as a musician nowadays is by have your fingers in all pies. In terms of recording(session) work, yeah it has gone down massively, but people are still recording tv/radio jingles. I reckon live music is as popular as it has ever been so there is live work out there. Theres always the function/wedding market, teaching, cruises, writing etc...... Works out there, you just need the drive to work for it! Edit; Also, in terms of education, it's up to you. Whether you think you need the education, the experience & the knowledge that you'll be taught, or if you think your ready to jump in the big competitive market that musicians work in.
I play power-inspired metal. Mainly chugging single notes at speed is my problem. Not the speed part exactly, but switching strings to play different notes. Or at really high speeds, just switching to any other note at the right time can be a problem when I play with 3 fingers. I have been playing for about 2 or 3 months now and my two finger style and speed is pretty good I feel. I have no problems there really. But i'm at the point now where using two fingers for the speed of notes I want to play is just not optimal. So it's either 3 or or a plectrum! I'll take your suggestion and start off slow and work my way up.
The parts i've put in bold all have the same answer. You've not been playing long & speed doesn't just happen over night. It takes practice, time & perseverance. You've only been playing for 3 months so if your wanting to move to 3 fingers there's nothing wrong with it, but your going to have to sit down and practice playing with 3 fingers slowly first, especially if your saying your getting confused with skipping strings. Concentrate on which fingers are leading. Playing with a pick, 1 finger, 2 fingers, 3 fingers, your thumb, it's all the same. All of them takes practice to build up speed but the important thing is to start slowly, hear every note your playing, make sure there even and build speed over time. -

Speed comes with time mate. There's no way to rush, walk before you can run etc... Personally I'm not a fan of the 3 finger technique but when your using three fingers while play 8th notes, there's 24 strikes before the pattern begins again, so 3 bars. -
that sounds really good. Look forward to your full demo. One request, shoes on for the full demo. White socks kill the vibe.
Note taken!

Ok, i've recorded a quick preview of the Reidmar. Please note it's only been di'd but it is post eq so your getting the sound from the preamp. Absolutely no processing has been added, it's simply Bass -> Amp -> Computer. I'm recording the full demo hopefully tomorrow so should have it edited & up by the end of the week! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OMCaiFJ-MM

I'd recommend the EBS session 60. They sound fantastic for the money and with all EBS stuff are a lot louder than there wattage ratings might suggest.

Isn't She Lovely - awesome Bass Solo

It's a lovely melody to transfer to the bass. I'm only assuming he got the inspiration to do it from Victor? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZyQE8LNKAk -
Just got in from my first gig with amp. I only took the 112 cab and it performed excellently. It was a bar show tonight with a cajun, mini grand piano, acoustic guitar & vocals. Everything was going through the bars sound system & the amp was barely on 1 before it started to fill the bar with lovely bottom end. This amp really does sit in the mix, can't wait for the cabs to bed in & see what it really can do with a full electric set up.
Wow, that looks amazing and really happy you got some classic cabs as they are on my radar. Not sure what the difference is tonally between a 10" or a 12" cab but I see EBS make both in the classic range. My only concern is with one cab, its only 125 watts which is not a lot although you do say its very loud. Looking foward to more info from you when you get the chance.
When i record a video review i'll do examples with just the 12", just the 10" & both. They both sound great & hopefully with the recording you'll be able to hear the difference. I've been through so many EBS cabs through my playing that i'd happily compare these classic cabs to the proline series. Just a little bit more old school sounding, but you guys can make your mind up when i post it
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!! Come on, come on, get the vidcam out and get youtubing! T
Aha, give me chance bud, not even had them 12 hours yet

Ok, first impressions. This thing sounds amazing. It really has kept true to that EBS sound. From playing in my room i'd happily say its just as loud as my hd350 was when paired with a 210. I've got a backline gig tonight so i'll report back on that later. Really really impressed with the cabs, rather than having a rotary tweeter control they've got a simple on/off switch & with them turned off you get a really nice old school sound, sounds great with my neck pickup. I wouldn't say the cabs were heavy or light but saying this they are an easy one hand lift. A lot easier to carry than my old epifani. So yeah, as of now i'm totally loving it. Going to put it through it's paces tonight and report back. Also, i hope to get some time next week to record a full video review of the amp to show all lovely people. Jake
