1. Too much bad experience with GAK to ever want to shop with them again...
2.
Same here! The fact that they kept the bright control looks very promising IMO.
You see, i don't really use the Bright control but it's always there if i want it. I'm more after the inherent tone of the EBS gear.
3. The mono cases are awesome & i'm guessing the double one is just as higher standard. Having two basses & a case though can get pretty heavy on your back.
4. I love my hd350, and if this can replicate the sound i have currently without too much of a loss of volume i'm going to definitely be looking at it. Can't wait to actually have a go on one.
5. FWIW, on my audition for the RNCM I played whitneys greatest love of all & midnight on the dancefloor.
6. Nothings too simple. Places like these aren't looking for the next solo bass player, they're looking for someone that can groove & play whats right for the music your playing. They'll be loads of players playing portrait of tracy. smooth, sir duke etc... Maybe think of something different.
7. Anyone seen one of these in the flesh yet? Seems a little understated at only 250 watts, but i'd love to hear it in the flesh at a gigging situation. 10. My Siggery
11. Yeah, i'm know 2 great players, Both fully classically trained & the amount of practice they still do is incredible considering they've both been playing 12+ years.
12. It's a hard instrument to play well and takes a lot of work.
13.
yes jake!! nice one on the gaia.. if im honest.. Pop gigs nowadays dont come about unless you can play synth bass.. and also program/edit your own sounds.. to match the bass stems on the recoed.. The Roland Gaia is a great VA synth.. mono and polyphonic.. Little phatty is also a great 2 oscillator synth but a mono analog synth is going to have more depth with the sounds it creates.. than various VA's depends how specific you want to be.. with the sounds your creating.. and what your wanting to do with a synth.. but dont knock synth bass.. all of MJ, Prince.. and various Stevie wonder is all on synth.. its been pretty integral in the last 20/30 years to the development of bass playing, harmonically, melodically and sonically
Ha, cheers man, it beats my laptop & controller system hands down. Had its first gig tonight and it sounded awesome!! Cheers for the recommendation!!
14.
this is awesome man! thanks
Cheers mate. Uploading the entire Jessie J albums later this weekend. Well at least simple sheets of al the tunes open to interpretation.
15. Been playing it all day & i'm in love with it
16.
That was quick. Did it go to a BC-er? I saw you had it on Gumtree too.
Went through a guy on gumtree from Liverpool, don't think he's on here. It did go for a revised price though. The guy seemed chuffed
17. The funny thing is, out of all the basses you've named in your post, i've only tried a Fodera so couldn't really say. Most expensive bass other than that i've played is £1500. I tried the Victor Wooten sig at bass day last year, was it worth the extra £6000 i'm not sure, but if it's in your means to buy one i can't say i wouldn't consider one. Anyways, i'll stay quiet as theres some much more knowledgeable guys on here!
18. On hold for the evening, someones coming to have a play
19.
I've been looking at getting the Gaia recently...either that or a Moog little Phatty. Although the Gaia appears more versatile. I've been using the Akai Miniak, which has got some really cool sounds, but is a pain in the arse to program. I like using a hardware synth as I don't want to take my laptop to gigs.
Yeah, i got tired of having to take my laptop with me & using a 2 tier stand with it. What i love about the Gaia is how easy it is to use & manipulate the sound, i've only had it a couple of days but i'm already loving it.
20.
I've been finding myself being asked to play more and more synth bass on gigs lately and was wondering if many other people on here have found that using synth bass has added to their sound and reportoire? I'm not talking about using effects pedals to get a synth type sound (which I also do),but using an actual keyboard to play basslines like players such as Greg Phillanganes and Michael Boddiker and the pop/R&B guys like Kern Brantley. Any opinions, influences, gear choices etc.?
I've just bought a Roland Gaia after a recommendation from Phil Simmonds and at the moment i'm loving it. I find it so much easier to use than my previous laptop set up as it's so hands on.
21.
No disrespect meant but if they want keyboards played why don't they employ a keyboard player?? - are they going to get horn players to play a synth that sounds like horns?? They devalue your talents as a bassplayer by asking you to play something else!!
Because your not playing the keyboard parts, your playing the synth bass part, the part that was recorded on the album with a keyboard and is part of the song. Its all about getting the right feel & sound for the gig. Also, Why hire an extra musician when the bass player can double up, its all about costs. You'll generally find keyboard players have enough on their plate than having to deal with the synth baseline as well, they've only got two hands.
