1.
At the end it's the sound. But yes solid top should cost more. Get one of these little mirrors that dentists use to have a closer look inside.
Yeah i know at the end of the day it's the sound. Well i've had a great email from a db shop in America advising me about the bass. From the pictures and matching with one he says he has in stock he's come up with this. Reghin advanced carved double bass. All solid wood Romainian made double bass 3/4 Elite series upright with solid carved spruce top, maple sides, solid flat maple back. Ebony fingerboard & tailpiece. Strung with Thimastik spirocores. It's also been fitted with a french maple bridge at some point in it's life. There has been no structural/major repairs to the bass, only has superficial knocks around the edges and some scratches here & there. An equivalent bass today he said is around €1800 & he recommended i advertise it at about 3/4 of that price, which is about £1150 so i reckon my current pricing is about right. Thanks for the help though dude. Got someone coming to look at it tonight
 2.
Ah so it's not a ply bass after all? Interesting. Thanks for the photos, I take it there's no bevel in the fingerboard for the E?
It does have a slight bevel, you should be able to tell from this photo, and yeah very interesting, i can just remember seeing plywood bracing and just assumed it was.
 3. Ok, so after some helpful emails from a luthier here in the uk & some guys from across the pond I've relished this bass at £950. The details. Reghin advanced model all solid double bass. All solid wood Romainian made double bass 3/4 Elite series upright with solid carved spruce top, solid maple sides, solid flat maple back. Ebony fingerboard & tailpiece. Strung with Thimastik spirocores.
 4.
The las two images look like they might be solid wood - the grain on the top lines up with the vertical lines on the ege of the f-hole.
So am i correct in thinking a solid top bass is worth more than an equivalent laminate?
 5. Ok, i've had to put this on hold until i can get it to a luthier to get it valued.
 6.
Have a look at the inside edge of the f-holes. If you see horizontal lines it's probably a laminate, if you can't see any lines, or the lines are vertical, then it's probably a solid top. Probably... The back has a bit of flame, which suggests maple but it could be a veneer over ply or it could be solid maple - hard to tell from the photos. If you really need to know you could take it to a proper luthier for inspection. Either way, it's a lovely bass. I take it this is the one you're selling? I'm very tempted to take it off your hands, but Manchester is a bit too far to go try out a bass.
It is mate but as far as i was aware it was an all ply hence the price, but have been informed it's worth more if its carved. Being a student i really don't want to undersell it. Heres some more photos, i'll try get some in real daylight tomorrow weather permitting. Thanks for the reply though

 11. Ok, i'm getting confused now about what double bass i have. I originally thought it was a laminate but now i'm not entirely sure, can any one help? What i do know is it's a flat back & was made in Reghin Romania around the 50's-70's. It's had a french bridge fitted. There is plywood bracing inside but the body itself looks like a completely different wood. All help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Jake

 16. Ok then guys, think its time for a new thread to discuss things, your clogging up my sales thread
 17.
absolutely, wasn't meaning to suggest you were doing something mental, makes perfect sense. Really just for guys like me who want a decent enough home set up that can also be used live. If I was actually playing keyboard rather than just sequencing etc then I'd do what you are.
Oh no, i totally understand where your coming from, i've done it long enough.
 18.
I did some research on 'proper' bass synths (the ones that can be plugged into bass amp), and starter (cheapest) options would be Alesis Micron or Korg Microkorg - they both go around 320 pounds new, so it's pretty much the same .
Make sure you actually try a MicroKorg if you go down that route, i couldn't get on with the user face last time i looked at one & the tiny keys are a total no go with the size of my hands!
 19.
TBH these days you can get a decent old laptop, a controller and some plug-ins and your away. I understand not gigging with a £1200 Mac but £2-300 laptop etc not much difference between that and a loaded keyboard. More of a hassle maybe but not massive.
Only issue with cheaper laptops is if you try running it with out a dedicated soundcard you can get a lot of unwanted noise. For me a loaded keyboard just makes sense to me, especially for hands on regular stuff.
 20.
Heck, 500 quid is a lil bit too much, I thought I'd get away with a few hundred (I don't need anything major as it would be my first synth..) Any cheapish options you may know, man? easy Laimis
Cheapest options are using controllers like this considering you've already got a laptop to work on. I'm not sure of the cheapest options tbh mate.
 21. Will consider offers on this for a quick sale&collection.
