FS: M-Audio Axiom 25
JakeBrownBass replied to JakeBrownBass's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
Well, my drummer has a Mac, so maybe I could use his on live shows, but it's not the best option.. What do you mean by a 'dedicated keyboard'? I think I would like one of those that can go straight to bass amp, not computer. Doddy has one of these I think: http://www.thomann.d...akai_mpk_49.htm I don't know if he's using a computer to run that though. easy Laimis
My most likely buy will be the Roland Gaia, sounds are built in & have hands on use. It gets mixed reviews from forums but having been told by a professional player that uses one night after night i'll take his word over guys online. -
i've just been looking at these - but isnt 25 keys a bit too little to play some synth bass stuff? (that's what you've used it for, right?) Sorry for being a bit of a noob on these, but do they only work by being connected to a computer (and I don't really have a Mac, all I have is little HP laptop..) - I mean, does it still work ok by being connected straight to the bass amp? What the new keyboard you're getting? easy laimis
I've managed using this but the more live stuff i do, the more i worry about relying on my laptop, thus i'm going to get a dedicated keyboard. Not fully decided what yet. It is only a controller so yes it needs the computer or a module to work. Interms of only having 25 keys, i only tend to be playing 1 note at a time so leaves my other hand free to shift through octaves should i need to. -
Great playing, really enjoyed that.. a great rhytm section with confident playing. Nice guitarsolo at the end too.. Heard the original just the other day on the radio and the bass-line captured my attention. Just good solid bass-playing with excellence in the details.
Cheers dude, couldn't be happier with Josh on drums & Harry on percussion. They're easily the most fun & easiest players i work with. Ahh, the guitar solo at the end, not going to lie, its about as much as a w***iest as it can get but he's damn awesome at it. I've got a transcription on my website if you ever want to look at the finer details of the line.

You Know What I Don't Get About Scales...
JakeBrownBass replied to cytania's topic in Theory and Technique
Thanks JR, what's this Perfect business? I understand flat and I assume major means as in the normal major scale I can play. Are there any other varieties of scale lurking other than natural, pentatonic or chromatic? Where does chromatic get used other than as a flourish?
I'm going to let Doddy take this i think as his off hand knowledge is going to be greater than mine. A perfect 5th or 4th essential means its not diminished or augmented. -
You Know What I Don't Get About Scales...
JakeBrownBass replied to cytania's topic in Theory and Technique
I used to think there was just major and minor. I got that, one sounds happy the other sad. Then I was told scales could be diminished or dominant. Then there are modes which are the particular flavours of major and minor. But where does pentatonic and chromatic fit? And chromatic, that's all the notes right?, almost a denial of the scale since nothing is selected or omitted. Alot of the modes seem so exotic that naming examples means experimental jazz and classical exercises, doesn't help get familiar with them. Can anyone explain in plain language? How do they teach this stuff to children?
The pentatonic scale can be either Major or Minor. For example, Major = R - M2 - M3 - P5 - M6 - 8ve Minor = R - m3 - P4 - P5 - M7 - 8ve Depending on how your learning your modes, they're just major or minor scales but starting on a different degree of that scale. Ionian R M2 M3 P4 P5 6M 7M Dorian R M2 b3 P4 P5 6M b7 Phrygian R b2 b3 P4 P5 b6 b7 Lydian R M2 M3 b5 P5 M6 M7 Mixolydian R M2 M3 P4 P5 M6 b7 Aeolian R M2 b3 P4 P5 b6 b7 *This is your relative minor. It can start getting complicated when you start bringing in tritone substitutions of dominant chords in jazz standards, but there are ways around this using the diminished scale. My personal opinion is that you can learn as little or as much as you want, too much information can't hold you back whereas too little can. -
Aww Man! Grand piano and double bass in a big, modern looking rehersal space? That scenario would be like a wet dream for most BC'ers. I don't suppose anyone on here is going to top that!!!
Ahh, its a bar that i have a regular gig in. Acoustic pop covers. It is lovely though.

Tried a search but couldn't really find anything so i thought best to start a new thread, if there already is one point me in the right direction

JakeBrownBass replied to malcthebass's topic in Funk
Any chance of the pdf of the transcription?? -
It reminds me of the Brian Cullbertson Live in the studio dvd, love it.

I'll be there & performing with 2 other bassists & a drummer. It's going to be a good day I bet & with a Marcus Miller master class I'm priveliged to be on the same stage as him.
Nice work mate! (Sorry for being a pedantic d!ck, but you've got 'John Meyer' and it's 'John Mayer' :S)
As you can tell i'm not a massive John Mayer fan I'll get round to changing it at some point.

By The Way Here, notation I've got all the other RHCP dots but not on me at the moment, i can send them through later. Same with Kings of Leon & Muse

Get yourself a standard theory book and learn the notes on your fretboard. If you know your theory, you know the scale and if you know your fretboard you know where to play the notes etc..... Don't rely on patterns.

The Modes - if it helps anyone!
JakeBrownBass replied to aidanhallbass's topic in Theory and Technique
sometimes i find it easier to think in tones and semitones: ionian - T T S T T T S dorian - T S T T T S T phrygian - S T T T S T T lydian - T T T S T T S mixolydian - T T S T T S T aeolian - T S T T S T T locrian - S T T S T T T
Ahh i find this method doesn't aid me in anyway. With a system like this there is little way to relate it to a scale quickly, whereas knowing that a Dorian scale has a a b3 & b7 it is instantly accessible. I hope that makes sense in a weird way -
