Don't have a picture of my first amp, but it was a 30 watt Aria with a 12" speaker! Then came the Behringer BXT300 with a Hartke VX 410, Added the VX115 to this set up! Sold the Behringer and bought the Hartke HA 3500 to go with it! Then managed to get hold of a Fafner, Now, i sold the entire Hartke set up and got myself this, then i joined this site and got this, Then had all of this at one point, Then it all cut back to this, Then the end of last year, this. And now finally, Jake
Well, hitting my bass with a hammer will produce a noise. In that sense its a "technique", but it isn't musical (IMO). Which, to answer your question, is why not. I feel a bit the same about these sort of techniques. I really struggle to to see any musical context where the technique demostrated here would add anything. What he's playing would sound just as good played straight fingerstyle. Just my opinion - I can see that its technically difficult, but it just seems a bit pointless to me!
But the technique can be sued musically. With the right muting and ghost notes you all of a sudden have a percussive noise. Meaning you can get a groove without a drummer! Tbh, i understand why people get annoyed by it, because alot of people do jsut use the technique to show off! If this style doesn't add anything, then why do people use picks, when what they're playing would sound just as good played straight fingerstyle! And in this video, why bother playing like this?? Tbh, your idea is flawed.
As it appears I am not going to sell my Ashdown MK500 I might just keep it a while longer, especially as it sounds rather lush with my new addition of a Lakland DJ4. Can anyone recommend some nice cabs to go with it, some light cabs. I do like 12" speakers... Thanks Craig http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=39338 (These are my current ones that are for sale)
EBS neo212 One of the best cabs around
bump, there has been some interest and I'm waiting to hear back from someone, but at the moment this is still available. not sure why this has been moved to the effects section either. Last time I looked this was a profesional bass preamp
I think its more to do with the fact that its a pedal, and will most likely be put on a pedal board

+1 to the black perm marker trick -
Ok guy, I've been reading different things about how important it is to read, and to know how to get from one chord to another etc... Just wanted to know what your opinions are, and what do you think is most important. Personally, I've done up to my grade 6 in theory, but i did this while i was at school/college and tbh i don't feel its aided me very much. I can read to a certain extent but would say i'm a good sight reader. I'd really like to sit down and learn properly though! Give me a chord chart on the other hand, and i rarely have a problem. I can walk a bit, but make the occasional mistakes. Saying all this though, i rarely use it! I much prefer listening to some thing and just playing with it, ye i make mistakes sometimes but i feel it trains you so much more than sitting and learning how to read! I know for alot of people its essential to read music to get the gigs you play. So ye, jsut wanted other guys views. edit. Sorry about rambling on
Having watched that, I sort of understand "how", but still don't understand "why". IMO!
You can say that to any technique on any instrument and the answer is always going to be the same, Why not?

Don't know about you guys, but i find it much easier playing it like the transcription i've added. Bar 3 is how i do it, bar 5 is the orig. transcript. What you guys think? Jake

always the drummers left, Your then next to the Hi-Hat, Snare & the kick, the three most important bit IMO. Wouldn't want to be next to the ride and the toms, seems pointless to me Jake
well that's very interesting! if that's the case I'll just go with the old version (the "upgrade" which seems to have the same pickups anyway). Any other opinions/facts out there? ps. what do you mean with your sig: "Leo Fender got it right 1st time....or at least by the second time with the Jazz."?
His first bass made was the P-bass His 2nd being the Jazz Bass.
