1. 14, ooo we nearly have a rugby team!
 2.
If you can try them both, then I'd suggest doing so. If that's not an option, I think that the Ashdown is probably a better bet. The Laney puts 65W into a 12" speaker. The Ashdown puts about the same wattage into a 15" speaker, but you have the option of connecting up an additional 8 ohm cabinet, and then you'll be able to get about 100W out of it. If weight is an issue, you might be better with the Laney, as it weighs 19kg, whereas the Ashdown weighs 27kg (according to mfr specs) S.P.
+1 on the Ashdown, i was playing a Five Fifteen the other day at a relatives and it sounded really good, nice fat tone and good but simple eq
 3. I love Ashdown stuff and really like that they're an English essentially family run company too. My current rig is fat and warm and I love it, never had any reliabilty issues with it or the ABM rig i had previously. There's a reason so many big bands use and them and thats because they last and are are easy to get a good sound out of, thats my 2p anyways
 4.
I went to our local shop today with Stingray in hand to try out the Markbass Little Mark II. I ran it through the Markbass 4 x 10 as I wanted to hear this also. At first I thought it sounded pretty good. However, I quickly found that it only sounded good on one setting which was with the VLE turned on and everything else flat. Any other setting just made it sound horrible. I then tried tried the Ashdown ABM 500 EVO II head through the ABM 4 x 10 and it sounded so much better. Clearer, sharper, with so much more adjustment. So for me and my sound, the Ashdown wins handsdown. I just wish it weighed less as I had high hopes for the Markbass stuff and hoped it would be good enough.
+1 Ive tried on a couple of occassions to get what I class as 'my tone' out of a Markbass and just never been able to do it, always wondered how much the gimmick factor helps them and if they were the size of a regular Ampeg/Ashdown they would still be so popular. . .
 5.
Thanks guys, appreciate the help. looks liek a fair few are turning 2 x 10's on their side. If only Ashdown made a 2 x 12 or a 3 x 10 Anyway, I think I will go with the 4 x 10.
I was in Academy Of Sound in stoke briefly the other day and they were selling a couple of Ashdown ABM 2 x 12's which I didnt even know Ashdown ever made, they were about the same size as a 410 though so wouldnt save much on the size issue, bet they sound nice though and rare for sure, the only time ive seen ashdown 2x12s in the past was in John Entwistles rig.
 6. Been gigging my Classic Rig 3-4 times a month for the last couple of years and was using ABM for about 6-7 years before that. Love the Ashdown tone(Ampeg with definition is how i see it) and touch wood never had any other issues either, i just love how it fits in with the band, doesnt get lost but doesnt overpower the mix. Cant't see me using anything else for quite awhile, although that new 320 watt valve head sure looks tempting. . . .
 7.
phatbass would be the one to give you an answer if he was on here.i watched the specials on jools holland and their bassist was using a klystron head with two classic cabs and it sounded good to me,but then not a true reflection i suppose.watch it on youtube.
My ears are burning! I currently use the Ashdown Classic cabs but also owned ABM ones in the past so heres my 2 pence. The classic cabs are not really what their name suggests in the fact that they are actually more modern sounding than the ABM, they seem to have quite a bit more top end attack and definitely a bit more clarity and generally brighter, the speakers are also very powerful and respond very directly to how much power you give them(sounds daft but a lot of cabs get to a point and then volume doesnt change) and keep on going without compressing. The ABM to my ear are great for that vintage sound, boomy but controlled bottom and fat mids but im my experience are great workhorse cabs, i think if its not price dependent than you need to demo both and choose with your ears, however with the classics you are getting more versatility and the Made In England kudos. Hope this helps.
 8.
It doesn't seem to produce mud on mine, it is a nice clean sound.
+ 1 , The sub harmonics have been a staple of my Ashdown sound for years, really thickens things up nicely when higher up the neck
 9.
I can definitely second the comment about the guitarist going thru the pa and having too much bass in his sound. This very problem has been multiplied in my band by there being 2 guitarists thru the pa, made worse until a couple of weeks ago by a very heavy-handed drummer! My Superfly500 and two 2x10 cabs were seriously struggling. We had to sack the drummer a couple of weeks ago as we were fed up telling him to play quieter and him saying that he couldn't. The new drummer is much better, but we've still to fully test that with the full band. I've also tried telling our guitarists that they need to lose some of their bass thru the pa, as they're stealing my frequencies - I've yet to win that argument and if I don't, I might have to be the next one to leave...... By the way; I was considering upgrading to the LG 1000, but I haven't seen too many 4 ohm 2x10 cabs capable of handling 500 watts+ The Yamaha cabs I use with my Superfly are rated at 250 watts RMS (same as the amp)
I've got one of these with my superfly and it sounds great, 4 ohms and 550 watts handling, couple of these with a LG 1000 and youd be away! http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/3707...4h-cabinet.html
 10.
No only one guitarist - but he does use a 1kw PA just for his guitar...
Why dont you just DI from the back of the fly into aforementioned PA ?
 11.
Ok i'm downsizing my amp, and really fancy going for a Superfly (500w @ 4 Ohms). Cab wise im using a PJB 4B cab (8 ohms) , and i plan on buying another one of these cabs soon. I've noticed that the Superfly has 2 speakon outputs, one for each internal power amp. what i'm wondering is, if i run each cab from each output will i get the the full 500W capability of the amp? or will it be less, as each output is going into an 8 Ohm cab? Also if i use only one 8 ohm cab (not all gigs will require the 2 cabs) from one output, how much power will i get? Any help appreciated.
You will be likely to get around 300 watts instead of 500 over the 2 cabs as full power requires 2 4 ohm cabs, however have you seen the superfly 1000? you would probably be looking at around 600 watts ish over the 2 cabs with one of those which should be plenty really unless you are playing really big gigs and if you are the Superfly has a good DI anyways so you can always go into the PA. Heres the link for the Sfly 1000 anyway http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~A...00~ID~11117.asp
 12.
No into Hi-Fi amps, Ashdown all the way.
Why dont you have look at the new Ashdown Little Giants, they seem great value although havent had chance to have a blast on one yet. Noticed this last night too Soundslive are selling 1000 watt Superflys at only £269! I always liked my 500 watt one so these I imagine are sweet, full midi and usb capabilty and the chance to save 99 of your own saved sounds, Ive had mine hooked up to the laptop too, you can get silly anal with the sound editing then even adjusting compression decay etc! ;-) here they are anyway, anyone got one? http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~A...00~ID~11117.asp
 13. I love Ashdown and their gear, wouldnt think of using anything else. I had a UK made ABM rig but upgraded to a Klystron rig a couple of years back - great tone, very versatile and very well made with awesome bottom end. A friend of mine actually bought a new chinese ABM rig not long ago and loves it, it sounds great and again is very well put together.
 14. Cool, these look very nice, looks like an ABM Vinyl sleeve and other posh bits and cheaper than a Chinese Mag! Great to see Ashdown still making lots of stuff in the UK.
 15.
very much worse,
Ashdown is one of the biggest brands but still very independent and based on a farm in Essex which aside from making great amps is one of the reasons I like them so much, i think once a brand becomes owned by a big corperation it often loses all the things that made them great in the first place, eg SWR, great little company then Fender bought them and since then nothing, I just hope Ashdown stays independent and doesnt cave in to some foreign company!
 16. Aye I think Ashdowns QC is all good now and has been for some time, never had any issues with any of the gear I've used - have Markbass even been going long enough to haven a proven history? ;-) I think you should have a listen and let your ears decide - if weight is an issue have you had a look at the Little Giants?
 17. You can get quite a lot in the sub £400 bracket - what bass do you play and what sort of music do you play?
 18. If you want a great punk sound then look nor further:- http://www.ashdownmusic.com/artists/detail.asp?ID=109 if Ashdown will make you one!
 19. You should definitely check one of these out mate, great overdrive pedal http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop/flypage/product_id/35483
 20.
Hi, with the last run of gigs I have done with the John Otway band, I have repeatedly found one or both of our guitarists standing on my F***ing lead every time I wanted to move so I have splashed out on an Ashdown Freebass unit. I tried it for the first time at the Robin2 in Bilston. :-) Crap. There is a very noticeable noise wash underneath everything making it unusable for live performance. I have subsequently tried it on another amp with different leads in another venue with the same result. The shop have taken it back and tested it and comfirmed the noise, but say that it is on all of the systems they have and so have refunded my money. This is so disappointing. I am one of those here that love the Ashdown sound. My 500 EVO II rig has never let me down and I had high hopes for this. Back to the drawing board. I think a big spike on the neck of my bass to remind the guitarists there is someone behind them!! Cheers, SeymourFluid
Hmm, Ive had a Freebass unit about a week(waited weeks!) and have been mightily impressed to be honest, well worth all the wait. I have owned serveral wireless systems this is the 1st one that I couldnt hear the difference between wired & wireless!!!, it was easy to set up and looks well made to me, very high quality finish & packaging. A lot of thought has been put into making this system, the modeller switch gives 16 great new sounds, no gimicks, and I suppose my main point is that mine has very little background noise so unless you were unlucky enough to have a dodgy one I dont understand whats causing the issues for you, are you using an active bass?
 21.
The Superfly's a great bit of kit.
+ 1 love my Superfly, its awesome for when i cant be arsed to haul the big rig around, which is actually more and more at the moment! Getting old is no fun eh
 22. Its funny how heated some of these opinions have got considering no one's even seen let alone heard/played this valve head, and Ashdown themselves said the correct specs weren't up on the site yet? I am looking forward to this and am looking forward to the real info going up there I heard a rumour that Dave Green who is ex matamp has had a hand in designing this head from the floor up its not just an abm with a valve power stage it will simply share features and controls. Shouldnt we wait till it comes out before we decide if its poo or not? I recall Mark Gooday saying in an interview a few years back that Ashdown would never do an all valve head so I think it must be something pretty special for him to bother. Anyway thats my bit and looking forward to giving one a blast when they come out in 2012. ;-)
 23. Hi there, I would say that for under £500 you can't really beat the Ashdown MAG range and I think probably the C210-300 would be your best best if you like the JJ sound Check the combo out here; http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop/flypage/product_id/37141 and best bit is you would still have enough change for one of these! http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop/flypage/product_id/35483
 24. Have you checked out the Ashdown MAG 600? Great head for the money imo, as people have said gotta be worth trying 2 or 3 different heads with different cabs and go with what you like the sound of The MAG info is here; http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.asp?ID=207
 25. I'd second the Ashdown Electric Blue range great amp for the money and enough power for when jamming. http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop/flypage/product_id/37170
