1. I used an ABM rig solidly from 1999 to 2007, 100-150 gigs a year and never had any issues with it at all, always worked, always sounded great. My head got dropped out of the back of our van once pretty hard and although I had to get a new bulb for the VU meter it worked fine. I bought one of the new classic rigs last year and that is even better. I never ever think I'd better take a backup, plus the fact I like they are an English small company.
 2. Hey there, Without a doubt I would get this; http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...roduct_id/14372 Superb value for money and tone tone tone. Ive been using Ashdown for the last 8 years and playing for 20 years plus and cannot rate them highly enough, also english company! You could then also buy one of these to go with it for bigger gigs; http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...roduct_id/14378 and while you're at it get one of these they are fantastic; http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...roduct_id/35483 There you go, sorted! ;-)
 3.
Um, why? My Superfly head hasn't got that problem.
+1 I know a few guys who've got superflys and none of them have had any issues, in fact they love them and gig them regularly. May be worth e mailing Ashdown direct? Theres an ask a question bit on their website.
 4. Sounds like a silly question but which output jacks are you using, i have a friend who had one and didnt realise the speakon sockets were combined speakon/jack and was running out of the line out into his cab, this called all sorts of issues, since using right outputs hes been fine though
 5.
Sounds like you've been won over lol
Absolutely. Just ordered a second one so I can have one set low to just add a bit of thickness and sparkle and one set a bit more full bore. Can't wait!
 6. From reading what has been said I think this would be a great solution into the world of your first 'proper amp' http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~A...300~ID~3071.asp Absolute stonking value for money as seems to be on a deal, my friend bought one recently for £369 and he is smitten with it. Then as needs be in the future you could add the 15 or whatever to it. Hope this helps and all the best, Phatt
 7.
Nice one phat, but I was hoping it would be crap so I wouldn't have to buy one and go through this all over again... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=14656&hl= Trying to get things delivered when she's not at home is becoming very problematic!
Lol, sorry mate!
 8.
Oi.. I do the reviews round here ! . I might buy the pedal at the end of the review, haven't decided yet.. how much did you pay ?
Lol sorry mate, just thought id share my initials! Paid £59 for mine.
 9. Ok, got my J Lo pedal s few days ago so thought I would share my thoughts. Gotta say in 20 years of playing and experimenting with gear this is without a doubt the best overdrive pedal i have encountered. It's very solidly built like a little tank and just begs to be stomped on! The variety of sounds is fantastic, setting the mix fairly low with drive up a little it just makes your bass sound warmer, more full and just generally more harmonic, everythings a little sweeter, great for blues. If you get a bit more aggressive with the controls you can make your bass just sound huge and absolutely filthy but bottom and top end clarity are retained whereas most pedals I have had just turn things to mush. With some more tweaking i managed to get that ever sustaining cello sound which is just amazing. True bypass too. All this and I have only had it for a couple of days. I use a P bass through an Ashdown Classic rig in case you were wondering. Best bit of all though is the price! I would happily pay double the asking price for this it really is that good. Think i may have to buy a couple more to have them all set differently!

 11. Hi there, the MAG 300 is a great buy and would suit indie perfectly, however if you could stretch that little bit more you could get this thats on a special deal seems a really good price. 12. Whats your budget?
 13.
Did Ampeg make stuff in England?
Lol, erm no. But all their American Manufacturing has been closed down nothing is made in the US any more.
 14.
Well... SOME of their gear in the UK .
Lol, yes, you know what I mean! I remember speaking to Mark Gooday at Music Live a couple of years back and he was saying that if it was up to him everything would still be made in the UK but if that was the case they just wouldnt be able to compete on price with the other rival brands in the low to mid ranges which is understandable, he also said Ashdown's high end stuff would always be made in england, which is nice, more than can be said for Ampeg eh!
 15. Just doing my bit guys! I'm proud that Ashdown are English and think its great they still make gear in England when so many companies build everything offshore.
 16. I e mailed ashdown and asked where the MK is manufacturedand martin there says; 'Hi there, thanks for the e mail. The Mark King Combo is made here in Essex as are our Klystron range, Superfly Cabs and of course the Mark King Head. Hope this helps, Regards, Martin.'
 17.
love to hear what you think of it !!
Will of courseet you guys knowy thoughts, it should arrive today!
 18.
This is what I was thinking. The Superfly 1000 is still going for around £500 but once these start to sell the price should fall sharply as with the 500. Plus you get the compressor and presets with the Superfly.
Totally different products though mate, Superfly digital pre amp, little giants pre amps aren't digital. Will sound quite different.
 19.
I wonder how long before the Superfly 1000 will come down to that price ? Would be worth waiting for maybe.
Think this has replaced the Superfly 500 and 1000 mate.
 20. I have just ordered one of these and am very very excited, there has been a lot of hype from those who heard it at The Namm show over on talk bass, and only £59! J Lo Hyperdrive http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~A...ive~ID~8587.asp
 21.
350w for £225? So, it's slightly more powerful than the Mag 300, lacks the compressor (not a major problem), has a more confusing EQ, weighs 3kg compared to 8.5kg, it's a tough choice as they're fairly similar. I'll have to pop into SoundControl in brum in a few weeks methinks.
Cant really stick a MAG head in the pocket of your gig bag though eh
 22.
I think you're the only person on here with a Klystron... what do you think of it ?
I'm the only person on here to have a klystron? Wow I feel special! I absolutely love it, more clarity than my previous ABM(not that the ABM was muddy) and just what you'd expect from an Ashdown the fatness and the warmth but with that little bit extra to my ears. Much more harmonic and also loud! Best thing is that it doesnt seem to compress much when pushing it, it just gets louder! Not sure if the differences are the speakers or the head but seriously I have gone through everything over the last couple of decades and I wouldnt trade this rig for anything, I truely understand why so many big bands use the gear. Plus best of all, Made In England!
 23. Hi Guys thanks for the welcomes! and Hamster I live in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.
 24.
+loads. Like a monstrous carbuncle on the face of a familiar friend. I suppose the bright colours is a nod to the success of Mark Bass - not realise that sucess is despite the colours - not because of it.
Hmm. don't think the bright colours have anything to do with Marco Bass, are people forgetting that the owner of Ashdown also owned Trace Elliot for the majority of the 80's, that man invented bright neon bass amps way before Mark Bass even had a business plan, guess he's just revisiting his past. I think they look great, Ashdown are constantly pushing things forward and dont play it safe, some things work, some dont but they have a go and if they do work (which to be fair the majority of their amps are superb) then great, if they dont they move on. I think we should be proud of an English company doing so well and being at the forefront of things. I also think we should critique the Little Giants when we've actually tried them and not before, and as for moaning about the fact that the 1000 is 2 x 500 @ 4 ohms, whats the problem here? A hell of a lot of great amps are 500 watts @ 4 ohms so with this you get yet another poweramp if needs be, all for £325?! I myself think it will be a real winner and cant wait to try one and check it out properly.
 25. Hi there, Just discovered thsi site and think its great that there is somewhere for the 4(or more) stringers to hang out. I've been playing for 26 years and am currently playing in a rock covers band(hey it pays the rent!) current rig is an Ashdown Classic 1000 head and an Ashdown Classic Neo 410 cab which is simply beautiful, Main bass is an old 70's P bass which i love and thats about it, apart nfrom maybe a couple of leads! Anyway look forward to getting to know everyone here and get some good low end discussion. Noel
