1. I think you can add him to a 'don't let these users bid on my stuff' list too.

I had to add an exemption from someone in France once as my default is not to ship outside of the country, and I remember seeing an option.

I'm pretty sure you can set your preferences to not allow anyone with < 5 feedback to bid as well.

  2. I use a couple of horizontal mountings in the man cave:

It's mostly the pretty ones that live up there. The heavy usages are on the right at foot level, in a warwick stand.

Edit: Just re-read the OP; '... apart from wall hangers...' - ignore me.

  3.
maybe the wooden covers were too thick, and the actual pickups were too far from the strings. but then the bass would have had a very weak signal...
Yes, that's as Andy explained it. The PUPs were low output to begin with, and forced to be too far away from the strings because of the thickness of the covers.

  4. A happy ending :-)

It's now got a set of GEMMs in it from Wizard Pick-ups.

Attached is a recording, straight into the desk. I think it sounds much better.

Andy said it was almost certainly because the wooden pickup covers were getting in the way, and digging out the originals was too hard, so we're back into black plastic but it looks pretty good.

Thanks everyone for their input. Enjoy the attachement.

The humble bass guitarist is an under-appreciated beast. Yet try to imagine the last six decades of popular music without James Jamerson, Paul McCartney, John Entwistle, Jaco Pastorious or John Paul Jones, to name but a few.

To celebrate the launch of MusicRadar's dedicated bass channel, we asked you to submit your nominations for the greatest electric bassist of all time via Facebook, Twitter and the comments on our original call-to-arms article.

I don't agree with the results, or in fact, any "greatest" lists, but it's quite interesting none-the-less.

  6. I used occasionally to do a jam night at the grey horse in Kingston, which Robin Bibi set up.

Recently a friendly drummer was asking about jam nights in the area, and now that one seems to have died a death. Anyone know of any others?

Preferably in Egham, Woking, Guildford or Kingston, but not too fussy...

  7.
Yeah, I've got loads of tunes like that. If I've maybe learnt it by memory then hear it after months of playing it the same way and think "So THATS what it goes like!"
Glad it's not just me then.

  8. I was originally taught to use downstrokes only.

And Bob recons "frog to tip"

I have no idea why you wouldn't want to apply it as cellists do (back & forth) but habit dictates.

  9. You want linke this, only with velcro?

edit: ahh, hence the "better than a schaller" comment.

  10. So, long story short I have to select two rock-a-billy songs for a charity gig, and I've never played any.

    Does anyone have any suggested:

    * artists / songs for something relativly simple but fun to play & listen to
    and
    * on-line resources or lessons on how to play rockabilly on the upright.

w.r.t. the latter, my bass is set up for classical (my main gig) and I don't intend to change it: will this present a problem?
