If you want tenuous - I can do tenuous!
My H&K basebass 600 was owned by a member of the prodigy, and then given to a roadie, who sold it to me. -
Eeek. Too much.
Basses, GW + 2x Sadows (1 usa, 1 metro) + ray+ warwick... £5k ish plus a double bass.
Then a les Paul and a peavey wolfgang...
Mind you, as has been pointed out, less than the cost of my wife's car, and that's just going to depreciate.
However, I look back at the £1k I spend on a 486 with 4mb of RAM and a 28.8k modem and that's where I've lost silly money.
At least with the basses they don't depreciate THAT much -
At the risk of repeating myself, I would sugguest you try Adam A5s.
I did as this thread suggestest and A-B-C'd them (in Andersons, Guildford) with Yamaha HS80s and the KRK RP8s
To my ears the Adams sounded the clearest and most transparent.
The second set I use is the surround sound system I usually use for gaming & watching movies.
The final test is always CD in the car. -
Just got back from a 4 hour round trip to meet Adam in Suffolk, to buy a sadowsky.
Lovely bloke, great communication, really positive experience. He even made me a cup of tea!
Would deal with again in a shot. -
Those are good but the built in preamp on the channels aren't the best.
Do we think that this:
http://www.dv247.com/studio-equipment/behr...onverter--18218
is compatibile with this:
http://www.dv247.com/studio-equipment/m-au...nterface--36419
then?
Obviously we'd prefer this:
http://www.dv247.com/studio-equipment/m-au...-optical--36422
but there's a good £300 difference... -
It's probably a bit noddy given what's already been said in this thread and your potential budget, but I found the following really useful:
I think a mixer is useful in the situation for impromptu recordings: I rather like the look of the projectmix.
My preferred DAW is Sonar, but that's just because I know how to use it. I'm also a big fan of my Adam A5 monitors.
I've had problems with Reaper in the past: but I was trying to get a fully featured DAW in Linux. At some point I keep promising myself to install the ubuntu studio build (http://ubuntustudio.org/) but it's always easier to record ideas on my existing set-up.
Sounds fun. A build diary would be awesome. -
It's sure get me in the moo-d for funk.
I'm sure you can really leather it when the steaks are down.
[struggling] -
Well batted.
-
I've always had GAS. I just think basschat has expedited the process.
Ok, so I'm selling my BEAUTIFUL 4 string NYC. I believe it was made in 1994; thus, it is pre VTC. It is in incredible condition - the pictures tell the story. It's a dream to play, and the new owner will have a bass that will outlive them comfortably. The only work that it has had done is the fitting of a new nut by the guys at The Bass Gallery.
I'm selling as I am leaning towards playing guitar currently. I need to fund an amp and this thing is just not getting played. It deserves to go to a good home. Keep an eye out in the sale section as I will be selling an Epifani UL502, an EA iAmp 300 and a matching UL210 (the newer one).
Thanks.
Oh, and I'm asking for 1650 GBP.

PM'd.
Sadly I'm on holiday at just the wrong time so Murphy's law says I'll miss this.... -
I know this is a long shot, but before I give this up to the gallery for commission sale, does anyone have a 4-string jazz style sadowsky for trade?
http://www.gwbasses.com/gallery/Dougal_SC-1_5String.shtml
Cash Price £1,200

I got such bad GAS for an MS4.
-
Sold a bass to Greg. Painless transaction where we both ended up happy. Excellent communication throughout the whole experience.
Enjoy the bass mate -
I too was wondering: I've seen them on bass central (http://www.basscentral.com/2003/sadowsky.shtml) but nowhere else.
I love my PJ. -
I've had three. From Cheapest to most expensive:
Wish Bass
Pretty much told Wish I wanted a stripy peanut with a purpleheart board, one pickup & a truss rod.
Didn't go exactly to plan. Two pups, no truss-rod. Ended up replacing the bridge, finishing it in oil. Cost: $700. Would I buy anther one: No. Result: Sold on e-bay for £250.
Carvin
It's difficult to buy a Carvin without it being a custom. Filled out a form on their web-site detailing the options.
Didn't go exactly to plan; the neck ended up with a gloss rather than matt finish. No modifications. Cost: $1,400. Would I buy anther one: Possibly. Result: swapped on basschat for a fretless Warwick.
GW
Probably spent the longest time speccing (and waiting) for this bass. Went exactly to plan. Grandon built me exactly what I asked for. Sadly it turns out I don't really know what I was after. Cost: $2,300 (including import duty to this country). Would I buy another: No. Result: Sits on my wall looking pretty.
Draw your own conclusions.
Is it worth it? IMO - Not really. As Davo says you have to really know what you want. Which I don't. My days of one off customs are almost certainly over.
TBH, if you buy an up-scale off the shelf bass, second hand on here, you don't loose that much money if you decide to sell them on.
Having said that it is enourmous fun. -
Give a guitarist, any guitarist, a bass guitar, and he can play Mustang Sally in five minutes.
Give a guitarist a proper bass and... it wouldn't be pretty.
It's a guitar. -

Chris and I did a mutually beneficial swap.
Turned up when he said he would. Nice bloke. No nonsense.

The advantage for the seller is that it's free to list. Plus once you've bid you're automatically watching.
I find it just works for me when selling: I usually get some early bids in & then the usual last minute scramble occurs & it goes for about 95% of what I'd sell it for on here. -
Surprised no-one has mentioned the dragonfly:

I have one. It's not used much, but in the situation described above it would have been prefect.
I've also used the tascam BT-1 mp3 thing, but that requires leads & electricity.... -

This 99p no reserve thing is working for me. Happy bidding! -
Now on the bay. 99p, no reserve.

I use a coated string, generally, and change them every 6 months.
Mind you, with 6 basses, it feels like I'm perpetually changing them..
A village somewhere is missing a bass...

Was wondering, lonely, as a cloud....
Is there a single bass that has been the most traded amongst basschatters?
I know, f'rinstance, that my recent acquisition:
has been loundnclear -> NAS -> ___---___ -> me.
There must be some that have done the rounds more than that? Any raises on four?
