1. Check out Schack basses if you're looking for a top end lightweight bass. I sold one last year and wish I hadn't - you could play it all day with no shoulder or back stresses whatsoever.
Not 100% sure if I want to sell this but an increasingly bad back means I'm thinking of having something built (and maybe internally chambered). If anyone has anything high-end and lightweight (preferably a 4 string) that they might trade then give me a shout. The bass- you'll love it or hate it. This was a Sherwood Green US JO which has been recently 'done' by the Sims Custom Shop. The artwork is based on the work of the graffiti artist Crash (who has designed Strats for Clapton and has done other exclusive Fender stuff). The artwork is stunning (and wasn't cheap). There are also red LEDs along the side of the neck and the bass is fitted with a J-Retro pre. It is in immaculate condition and potentially available. 2. Sorry, I thought you were talking about Funkydunc's cabs. Yes, most people go for 4ohm omni 10's, so a pair would receive the full 500W.
3. Most people seem to love the Aerodynes. I'm a fan of P-J basses and imported an Aerodyne about 2 years ago. I thought the feel and standard of the parts sucked. It felt like a £70 Chinese bass rather than a £400 Japanese instrument. The machine heads and bridge were very flimsy, the board had lots of open grain and had been stained (and filled with some gunk). It did actually sound good, but suffered more from hum than any other bass I've handled. The paintwork and binding was also pretty good. Having a lot of other Jap Fenders (the alder/US PUP ones) it was a bit of a shock to me, and I only kept it a couple of days. If you're after a P-J configuration I'd say go for the MIM precision special.
4. 10.5's only have one speaker ..
5. They cable should come with the head (or at least they used too - isn't there a packing slip in the box?)
6. If you're looking for a smallish fairly light amp put the Genz-Benz Neopak on your list of ones to try. I've been using one for a few months and really like it.
7. You could do a lot worse than the GK 700RB 210 combo for sale on this forum ..
8. I've had one on order since December ... Apparently the first batch shipped to the dealers on Thursday, so I should have my hands on one the week after next. I'll up a quick review when it arrives.

MARK BASS
I was working for CORT at the London Guitar Show and was kindly allowed to try some of the Mark Bass gear. Had a go on their new F1 amp.... I was very impressed. I'm not much of a gear head but I know what I like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6wG71TR2_0
Any difference soundwise between the F1 and their analogue PA models (LMK LMII etc.)?
11. I'd be very carefull about these parcelforce resellers. I've had to raise a small claims court action against one after a £500 item was lost, and they did absolutely F A about it. Never use one who has the parcel delivered to a third party prior to resending to the final destination - if there's any problem you have to rely on the third party to handle the courier claim.
12.
I just hope it was all Jamerson 'cos Carole Kay's smelly attitude puts me right off her as a person. Not her playing though. I don't think being a bad person makes you a bad bassplayer ...
What exactly is her "smelly attitude"? Carol says she played on Stevie Wonder's I was made to love her, so she probably did. Likewise JJ likely cut a version. It wouldn't surprise me if another bassist played on the released track. Thinking that Carol may have claimed this line to "embellish their resume in order to get work", as some do, is patently nonsense. Carol was the 1st call session bassist in LA for many years and had nothing to prove to anyone. At the time Motown were indeed a hit factory, recording a single every hour or so, some of which sat on the shelves for years before release. Some of the seminal bass lines were just another tune, part of another day at work at the time, and it's no surprise that nobody bothered to make detailed records - nobody gave a sh*t who played what. If you correspond with CK you'll find she's a lovely genuine person (as I'm sure JJ was) and not the fanatic she's portrayed to be. A lot of the venom directed at her seems to have started following Slutskys SITSOM project, when he started to ridicule her claims. It's interesting that Slutsky has caused a fracture of the remaining Funk Brothers (there's at least two variants now touring) and is being sued by several of them.
13.
How do you know Carol Kaye's is different? If no one has her transcription, I might order book .4 from America and check it out. I've heard one or two complaints about the Slutsky transcription, but I'm sure it's nonsense. Although, Jamerson is renowned for adding many deadened and in-between notes (for want of a better word) for intonation and rhythmic feel.
If you order any of Carol Kaye's books she will add some "goodies" to your order, including transcriptions of various popular tunes.
14.
ive never used the bag end 12 but do own a 1x15, ive also owned and played through all the ea cabs. I would go for the bag end any day the 1x15 is amazing. The EA cabs sound so dry and clinical to my ears, ive got a friend who also owns a bag end and and EA 1x12 and the ea is gathering dust.......... Bag end cabs are really loud, well made, musical cabs...
I've owned the bag end, the Wizzy, and the MLine - and they're all good cabs. The EA's Wizzy's have a bit more top but still sound warm. The bag ends weigh a ton (3/4" plywood). Of the three my preference would be the MLine. Since the bag end cabinet is so small it doesn't really have much effect on the sound, by shoving in a different speaker you can alter the tone quite a bit. The transmission line EA cabs are technically more advanced. If you're considering a bag end see the Flite I have for sale - I bought this to replace a bag end (dimensions are the same) at half the weight. Edit: Just realised it's a 12" bag end you're asking about. It's the 15" bag end I had (SD15?) - I never new they did a 12".
15. It is interesting that the Dr Licks transcription and Carol Kayes differ. Listen to the original and see which is closest ... It wouldn't surprise me if neither of them played on that track. Must admit I do like Marcus Millers slap take, I'm not really into slap bass but he sounds superb.
16. I've ordered a lot of "stuff" from thomman and probably about 20% has arrived damaged (they use DHL who in turn use local delivery knob heads in my neck of the woods). They've allways been good in sending replacement "stuff", but it can be a hit of a hassle since they require photographs of the damage, signed statements etc.
