This used to be mine and is even better than it looks. I changed to a Roscoe Century Signature VI which while having more bling hasn't the spank this bass has. Or rather, it has ping and zing, not the huge-ass low mid punch. Seriously, I've never had a bass with such massive bottom AND mid-punch at the same time, usually it one or the other. I've bought these same pickups and a pre-amp I know will work well to get nearly the same tone, but with the wenge wedge neck =)
one from above to see the counterpoint between left and right (right hand very slightly anchors the bass but ideally posture should allow you to make the bass stand without holding) One from the front in the same position as above. (using the heavy 2 finger RH pizz in this )
My teacher taught me to always use 2 RH fingers for pizz when possible, but his technique is to have the fingers parallel to the strings, with the relaxed hand that classical pianists use, not a loaded spring. We also put the most meat we can manage on the string to have a thicker tone and pluck mentally from the right shoulder down, put on scrutinizing the actual pizz technique in use, I find that while the upper arm does move somewhat, the most movement is seen from elbow down. Most definitely the plucking is initiated from the arm, not the hand. This technique is inherited from Jorma Katrama, the professor emeritus at Sibelius Academy (which produces excellent classical musicians) and modified by my teacher who is a hard bop player. Is the style in use in Britain different? I can't imagine you guys (and gals) pluck with the hand only, so it must be just something that COULD be read into the pictures, but is not what you actually do day-to-day.

GB Spitfire 5 String For Sale - PRICE DROP!!! - NOW SOLD

I've sold two Roscoes here are both buyers report much satisfaction. So far I've not had a mediocre or good Roscoe, all three have been 'blow my socks off' -quality basses. That having been said, my (Roscoe, of course) Century VI satisfies my absolutely spoilt taste like no other and when I get the same Roscoe Bartolinis this bass already has to replace the Nordstrands on it, I'd wager it can give me a better tone than the SKB I sold to Mark. Right now it's more like a hippie sandwich 6-string modern jazz bass, which would be great praise if it weren't for the fact that I don't really need that kind of tone now. If someone's looking to get in to five-strings, Roscoe would be my first and last recommendation, out of all the basses I've had, from Spector to Wal to Smith to Dingwall to F-Bass to Sadowsky (metro) to Skjold. Skjold would be a close second. Caveats: I've not had a Spanish Cedar Roscoe nor an ash-maple Skjold. Also, if Pete S were to alter the headstock just a smidge to better fit his otherwise excellent aesthetics... And of course, the versatility of Skjolds is incredible. Roscoes just have a signature tone that make me go mmmmmm.

Agreed - he traded a StingRay for the white Roscoe I had up for sale last fall and he was a pleasure to deal with. Recommended!
The man's an absolute pleasure to deal with and DAMN he pays fast!
Plus the one. Except, Mark didn't buy a pedal, but a bass! Most pleasant experience all-round, highly recommended!

Sorted - Musik Schmidt had one in stock. Will write up a summary of how it goes esp with having to drill an extra hole!

I've decided my Roscoe needs a new preamp - the Aguilar does the Aguilar thing which it did did in the two basses I've owned previously that were equipped with it. I've determined the Glockenklang preamp is my best bet: either it delivers in which case I'm a happy camper, or I'll switch out the Nordstrands for Classic Barts, which is what I had in the white SKB I sold to that swede last year - a killer combo. I suspect the Nordstrand Big Splits + the Aggie are the reason this bass changed hands a few times before ending up with me. I note, however, that not many Glockenklang European distributors carry the pre-amp in stock! Is there a store in Britain that has it in stock? -v

Bought from Mindgoneblank here, in this thread. It's been very much unused, as I didn't go the fx path with MBoost at all! I've been doing double-stops and chording instead. Stick with what ye know, eh? Would like 120 pounds for it, but would be willing to talk about the price, if I've made some egregious error in pricing it. It's less than I paid for it. SOLD!
One of the main reasons the Roscoe<snip> Other than that I was flying around it. The shorter scale length made it feel ridiculously easy to play.
Unless it's a VERY recent Roscoe, it's 35". Then again, Roscoe feels like 34" to many. (Myself included)

SOLD Roscoe SKB 3006 MINT condition
nobodysprefect replied to nobodysprefect's topic in Basses For Sale
Thanks for the bumps! =) I'll put up a pic of my new love one of these days... It's the Century Signature VI that changed hands a few times on TalkBass. One piece walnut body, wenge wedge neck and Nordstrand/Aguilar under the hood. It has Roscoe grunt but sonically it's all over the place! No wonder the other guys didn't keep it! It's made for a fairly specific need which matches with mine very, very, closely. MBoost is still a trio with a dedicated vocalist on top and the other combo I play with will never add a guitarist. If I were a working freelance bassist these days, I'd keep this SKB. Demeter pre has some mid-scoop built in, but conveniently the mid control at the lower frequency setting giver you the option of countering that scoop and going for a mid-boost even. And treb cut, mid boost (which was 90% of the time what I was doing) makes for an excellent 'P but wider and fuller and active' kinda tone. Doesn't slap nearly as well and the new Century (New Century Evangelium == Shin Seiki Evangelion == Neon Genesis Evangelion for added nerd/otaku appeal!!!) so I'd say that this bass should go to a primarily fingerstyle player. -

Gone pending payment now. edited to add: In the interests of selling this before we move in next month, I'd be willing to entertain offers somewhat less than the GBP1350 even with the Demeter pre-amp. Well. I guess I'm just physiologically incapable of fidelity! I bought another Roscoe 6 that satisfies my craving for walnut and since there's a lot of sonic overlap... Roscoe SKB3006 maple-purpleheart-maple neck birdseye maple fretboard 35" scale. Killer B. Solid c, too. ash body exhibit grade quilted maple top black and gold finish (lurvely) bartolini pickups - I'm fairly sure they are the Roscoe Barts known for their punch Demeter preamp - no longer offered! Many at talkbass consider this wood/electronics combo the best possible combo for Roscoe Tone (tm) I honestly think Roscoes are the best basses I've ever played. They have tons of punch and definition, and this bass in particular never sounds harsh. You will anger your soundman if you boost the lows though, there will be just too much of a good thing. IF you don't need to cut through a mix or cop a P or J bridge pickup tone, other basses (Smiths! Fodera!) will be better. For a one-bass-does-it-all these are teh shiznit. Only Dingwalls have comparable B strings and they are nowhere as flexible ime. I have some samples from the demo we've recorded with my band which I'll try to get around to sharing somehow. Here are two VERY rough mixes of the tracks we cut. First is Bridge PU soloed, second is neck PU soloed. Don't really slap, but you get a (much) more old-school slap tone from this bass than other high-end basses. Not Marcus or Victor at all. edit: If I were a working freelance bassist these days, I'd keep this SKB. The bass comes with the Roscoe light hard case. I'm asking for clearly less than I paid all told: GBP1350. Trade-wise, I've no particular inclination other than that the trade bait should either be bog standard + cash or an exotic sixer. edited: spelling

*SOLD* Acme B2 Low tuned, light 2x10s *SOLD*
nobodysprefect replied to ben604's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I had a Trace rig, then SWR, then got these and I've not looked at other cabinets since. Those who know my ... proclivity for switching basses are always astonished at my being utterly disinterested in any other cabs and amps out there. Well, a Low B 1 series II would be lovely for those smaller gigs! (I use a Read Custom Purity pre-amp. best there is, for me) You DO need enough power, though! I used to have a QSC PLX2402 and now have their 1104 which is both affordable and light. I'd say it's a good fit unless you play metal, but I can't turn it up past 11 o'clock at even the bigger gigs. -
I did pretty much my entire first album with this bass, I'm just not a fan of green but believe me this bass is AMAZING, the tonal options are second to none. Personally I put Valenti's up there with USA Laklands and Sadowskys in terms of quality
Thanks for the praise! edit: removed stupid rant.
