Er, I wasn't going to sell this, but I got a bad case of GAS. Ok, GAS is released, but the apartment is just too small. Now asking pounds, incl. shipping. This is an older MTD - the main difference is the neck. It's easily the best neck I've ever had in a bass. Slim and comfortable. You can play for hours on this at breakneck speed. What makes this a bit of a rarity is the woods. Older MTDs often have wenge in the neck, and the sound of wenge doesn't work for me at all. This has all maple neck, ash body, amboyna burl top. That classic ash-maple combo again. Many people who haven't heard this bass thell me that MTDs are sizzly, shrill, cold or whatever. Nope. This bass fits right in a funk, blues, soul, rnb, jazz, Twisted Sister, whatever. Does NOT stick out in a mix in a bad way, this stands out in a good way . You can do fatness and/or punch. 21 frets for fat slap tone on E & B strings. Uncompressed attack. I can't stand many boutique makes now, they are far too compressed. Also, it's a light at 3,9kgs/[s]6.6 [/s]8.5 pounds google doesn't understand comma as a separator lol and it's an extremely well-balanced bass. To summarize the good: I believe it's got the best ergonomics you can have in a six-string and a more classic tone than any other MTD I've heard. Can do a credible Jaco tone or a Motown tone - can also do a Marcus-ish slap tone. Ok, the bad & the ugly: the bass has play wear. The frets are not AS NEW - but do not require a polish even at my level of perfectionism. There are small dings on the edges of the body and 1 small ding on the back. The top has no dings at all. The bass originally came with an experimental (I think) high voltage pre-amp that had an external PSU. The socket for the PSU was fairly big, and the bass was modded to then current MTD spec by Mr. Tobias, and the socket hole was plugged up. The hole is in the edge of the bass, faving the floor in playing position. (And the craftsmanship of the repair/modding is, of course, of the highest order) Will take more pics today or tomorrow.

Ok, time to move this bass. It's a good example of F-Bass quality, I've had 5 and this is at the better end of the spectrum. Ash-maple is a killer combo. Ash body, maple neck, birdseye maple board. F-Bass humbucking pickups, has coil splitting with very believable jb tone - or, rather, has great JB tone, with a usable HB mode for when you want that. The eq gets a special mention for being very gig-friendly. Not fiddly at all. And the passive tone control is a loved feature on jb-clones for a reason! This was made in 2007 and the previous owner played it a lot, so there's play wear, a few dings, and some fret wear. I get a really, really, low buzzfree action. 34,5" scale, 19mm spacing. Excellent balance because of the long upper horn. I think 1600 pounds shipped with the F-Bass hard-ish gig bag is the best price you can find one of these going for on the net right now. Great bass, needs to be out there working. More pics at http://s626.photobuc...5/library/FBass

A great MTD 635 with a rare wood combo. This one has makore/mango body and maple neck with Honduran rosewood board. Compared to the alder/bloodwood/maple/ebony and the black limba/redwood/maple/ebony, this bass has, of course much more polite and sweet high end. MTDs with ebony boards can need some taming to sit in a mix, this bass worked quite well in a jazz trio. The body of the note has lots of definition and solidity. The low end is well-defined, if not as deep as some other combos might have. (Walnut maybe?) This is the most flexible of the MTDs I've had, and sits easiest in a traditional mix. The traditional MTD aggrssion is only present if you bump the highs and/or harden your attack, but it IS there when you want it. But, I've got my old 21 fret 635 that I just love to bits - it's raunchy, in your face, just perfect for my very light technique. And, there's the Marilyn that does more subdued and complex tones that I ordered new for me, so it's never going anywhere. This one feels a little superfluous tbh. Has the MTD World logo, Evo Gold frets, mint condition new style MTD hard case. Sold pending payment seems fair to me based on the mint condition, recent serial number and rare wood combo. Would cost a fair bit to get one new! We traded MTDs. Everything went swimmingly - Giorgios is forthright, trustworthy and communicates well, with clarity and speed. Now, I just have to figure out how to buy my 635 back from him!

Sold pending payment! All right - I'm now more motivated to move this.I found out I DID need 5 strings for certain gigs, but they dried up, and the upright gigs I've got left are local so everybody drives their own car. The pickup tone is very uncoloured, I've never had as good a tone from any pickup system I've had on the URB. Perhaps 4000 pounds shipped is a more reasonable price, after all. Would also consider partial trades.

Just came across this fairly recent rendition of a classic. https://www.youtube....h?v=HzAb-FVQCJg Pete T. isn't as deep in the pocket as I'd like, but ... everyone else is just SO relaxed and together. I love it. My verdict: I think the drummer's got a fairly decent sense of time. (hehe). The bass, starting from the tone, isn't a deep in the pocket kind of affair, but the whole works so well.

The tax-free trade area was one of the central benefits of the EU - or EC, as it was called those days - funny that you should be unaware of it... But then, you DO live in Britain!

Well, this is a great bass for chording and solos and the b-string is better than any 33" B has right to be. Sorry Alex, I thought I'd keep this, but... The MTD is very much it for me. The tone is quite thick, but there is a sweetness to it nonetheless. The main woods are ebony for the fretboard, ash and maple for the neck, walnut body, chestnut top (not sure about the top). 26 small frets. Kent Armstrong humbuckers and John East deluxe preamp. Vol-bal-tone-bas-tre-mid freq-mid-passive-treble boost controls. String spacing set at 19mm, the bridge can do less. Selling because I find I'm bonding with my MTDs and want to lose the collection and perhaps upgrade the car or the comp or get a pre-factory PRS cu24 or something. Almost same spec bass on video: https://www.youtube....h?v=z7A23mQpF-k More photos: http://s626.beta.pho...d%20Tronics/VM6 Asking EUR1800/GBP1500 shipped to most EU destinations, comes in a light hard case.

We traded basses with Andy, and I couldn't have hoped for a nicer guy to deal with. Very understanding when I got swamped with stuff, too. Thanks for that especially!
