OTOH I like the Oly white one

Tried one when I bought my first Ray5, hated it! I am sure there are good ones out there and maybe with a pack of proper strings and some tools I could of made it much better but I am not the only person to say they are like a 4 string with a B string rather than a 5 string. If you like that I would be having a serious look at a Mayones Jabba Classic 5
Each to their own i suppose. I'll have to get a go on a 5 string at some point. No point dishing out £1400 then deciding i don't like it. But it's the neck thickness that i think i wouldn't like, but that fender has the strings sat right at the edge of the fretboard, which is good, makes the neck slightly narrower, and easier to play i suppose.
I air slap. I am much better at it than actual slap.
The back of my phone won't stay on properly anymore because i slapped it too much while it was in my pocket (steady on now). -
My right hand fingers do it on their own but I doubt anybody else notices. We had an air harmonica player in the crowd once !! Funniest thing ever.
haha! I hope for his sake that he was drunk? -
I like the idea of a 5 string, i really really do, but yeno, all too often, most 5er guys play coffee tables on their chests. That's fine and all, but i don't want to be one of those guys, so going for some boutique bass is a definite no go for me (because i'm almost certain not to like the shape or have the money). So, as a compromise, i was looking at the stunning fender deluxe 5 string jazz bass, the one with 21 frets, for that extra little push on the high notes I'm sure you all know exactly what i am talking about, and i'm also sure i'll get a little bit of hate, but here's a couple of links- http://www.fender.com/en-GB/products/americandeluxe/american-deluxe-jazz-bass-v-five-string http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_american_deluxe_j_bass_v_rw_wt.htm So, do you guys have any experience with this particular instrument? is it recommended, or a bit of a hit and miss affair? got to say, it really does look stunning in that wine red! I may invest in one over the summer when i'm back to work (hopefully).
I do it too. My other half calls it bass w*nking and says it looks rather sad. What do I care, I'm enjoying my self.
Also earned myself the name "Milton the bass w***er" in school. ah, fun times -

all the time. With my phone in my pocket, it's the right height to act as a pickup or thumb rest. I've done it in work before. It's how i got the name "Milton the header" -
the only offer had been for £150. I upped that to £600 purely to get the auction running and was amazed to get a call half an hour later accepting my offer.

So, er, did you get it for £150, or for £600? Or did someone else get it. I don't understand.
£600 i reckon. -
Once you get past 6-8 basses, your significant other will simply stop noticing your new purchases.
Why did i picture a man sneaking a bass in through the back door, then hiding it when i read this? "oh sh*t, this is my 8th bass... better sneak it in or she will go mad!"

Flea. RHCP's later era stuff- californication to stadium arcadium. Not their best work, but it was enough to make me want to play. Let's hear it from the Flea fans!
I hope you don't think I'm some wanna be pro . Music is my hobby. In fact, it was the others in the band who thought we could 'make it', just turned out I was the most reliable. You'd ask the keyboard player if he was ok for practice the following week, he'd reply that he wasn't sure. The guy was out of work, no money, couldn't afford to watch the TV. I must admit I lost my temper one week and sarcastically asked what it was in his extensive social diary that was possibly getting in the way... karaoke down the pub apparently
Couldn't afford to watch TV but could afford to be in a pub all night? I don't know about england, but here, if you aren't drinking enough, they move you on. One time my mate bought 1 pint of cider on his 18th birthday in a pub, and nursed it for well over an hour. the landlord told him he couldn't stick around and not drink, because it was going to get busy, and we were taking up space in the front bar. The guy is now constantly going on about getting drunk. This was just over a year ago when one pint did him an entire night. He even went got an extension on his overdraft so he could drink, citing that "You can't drink with no money". I pointed out that an overdraft was debt, so he actually had less than no money.
My wife recently brought up something I had forgotten about. Not long after we first got together I managed to convince her that my middle name was Ferdinand (I don't have a middle name). I don't know why I thought it would be funny but she still chuckles about it all these years later.
oh dear :/ haha Nah, everybody that i work with knew my name, just this guy was more gullible than the rest. He thought another mans last name was vanderhue. Doesn't matter, he's been sacked now anyway. -
Yeah, that was immature, and you were a fool for not using Biohazard instead. At the very least you could've played 24-7 Spyz! Nice story! Funny stuff, stuff like that. I've pulled a lot of it in my days. Problem was when the situation didn't allow for a correction, and people would still believe it years later, like when I'd so-called "impregnated a sixteen year old American school girl in Paris", and my best friend's mother didn't wanna know about me for a very long time, coz she would not believe the truth, but would believe the lie. Bassman Sam, you do need to lighten up a bit, "opinion" or not. You weren't there. You don't have the complete picture. best, bert
The people are work with are decent people, but i doubt i will have much contact with most of them after i stop working there. I don't really care if they hear the song on the radio one day and think "That's milton's song!". Infact, i would quite like to be there at that moment. I would laugh my head off. One of them also thought my last name was Rockefeller. I mean, what!? if you are silly enough to actually believe it, can you blame me for taking the piss a bit? -
Hmm so this has turned into the whole procreation Vs' bass owning debate!
haha, yup Men can't have kids, so it isn't really a debate for me.
-
I happen to live in a two income household. No kids...
Your situation is desirable. Thankfully, i will never have kids. Whether i am in a relationship or not, i intend to live in a nice place, surrounded by my basses (and other instruments).
It's an absolute trek to get there on time from Portsmouth - you're gonna be knackered before you arrive. I did the trip a couple of years ago.
Oh really? Why's that? i've never been that far south before, or really used public transport at all in england really. Worst part would definitely be that i have to commute by myself. -

Oh, one time i plugged in my iPod and played rage against the machine. I then told them that it was my band, and i wrote the song. They all said it was good and they would listen to it if it was available to buy. Fools. -

MiltyG565 replied to mentalextra's topic in General Discussion
yes and no. I don't make a big deal about it, but i do talk about it sometimes. But i also haven't told them of my sexuality, the true reason for my sick leave, or many many other things that i live with daily. -
Lead is not that difficult to master. Once you learn your pentatonic and blues scales its plain sailing
I know them on bass already, but i think it's more about pitch bending, pinch harmonics, tremolo use and using the groove and really good timing to create something that sound great! so far, i can do none of those things
I started guitar a year after bass. I`m a fairly good rhythm guitarist, not so good at lead, a definite Steve Jones type guitarist.
EXACTLY the same for me. although i have only been playing since june. But hopefully i start learning lead at some stage. Can't deny that playing a lead solo just adds another dynamic and soul to a song. My ultimate guitar idol/inspiration- John frusciante. Not just a brilliant rhythmist, but also plays fantastically simple yet soulful solos, and great chord progressions. Brilliant singer too. He also has a great knowledge of theory. Great musician all around.
