Everybody in a band has different hopes / expectations / aspirations /level of commitment because we are all different . Do we perceive flakeyness as some one that just exhibits different behaviour to ourselves ? I always try to think of myself as the " normal " one in the band , but I'm sure some people think I am the outsider or the person who muddies the water of the band puddle . As they say , communication is paramount , but mind-reading is preferable .
flakiness is not committing to the band, when that is what everyone else does and expects from you too.

alright, so not exactly mixed responses. But while recording, should i DI my bass head, then take the signal from the DI out of my bass head through a DI box, or straight into the interface? I don't have a DI box yet, but what i am getting from most people is just to plug my bass straight in to a DI box, to which a put a big flat no to generally, because i like the sound of my amp, and it gives good control of tone shaping and volume and gain, so i would rather run my signal through it first. I know it is asking for more problems, but i have had no trouble before with buzzing or anything like that before on the track (apart from clicking, which i think was my amp just giving up). the only reason why i am asking is because my bass sounds kinda phasey, and can be very unclear when recorded. obviously i need to fix that before recording. so should it look like this- Bass>Amp>DI box>Interface>Computer. or this. Bass>Amp>Interface>Computer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think it's because a lot of musicians are just dreamers. lets face it, we all know a wannabe guitar kid who thinks that slash is the greatest, has 3 (normally very poor) guitars, but can play none of them properly, because they don't have the motivation to learn them. I'm pretty sure if they were serious about learning, if they had maybe 10 lessons to get them started, they could go on from there. Always ask how committed the other members are before letting them join the band. literally, just say "we are going to attack this hard, are you 100% willing and committed, because we have had our share of dreamers, and it isn't what we are after".

"hey, what are you doing?" *nasaly voice* "ohh, just getting ready for my gig at the weekend" "how?" "just pre-programming the bass on this software, should only take another 15 hours" I think we are safe for now.... for now. dread the day when they are affordable and easy to use/transport though.
I don't! They've done very well for themselves and a great bunch of lads, who worked hard to get where they are Paolo Nutini - 10/10 The Strokes - Last Night Elton John - Step Into Christmas That time of year...
Oh dear, are you their bassist? haha.
i know :-) my son likes them... But ti be honest, their basslines are fun to play.
Yeah, indie isn't my thing, but the basslines can be pretty fun.
Ok I'm done. Found it tricky deciding how to approach this month's challenge, but settled on a dreary little number about how people can be deceptive, and how when relationships turn to ruin it spoils the memories associated with them - just like it has done with Savile, a once national hero but now a figure of hate (I used to love Jim'll Fix It as a kid…). It's very much based on a past relationship of my own, in which I had a chunk of years ruined by the discovery that my then betrothed was in fact a cheating swine. I found the only way of moving on was to let those memories fade and die and be happy about doing so (a nod to the Mexican day of the dead festival, where the second photo comes from). 'Twas a long time ago and I've since happily got hitched to Mrs Skol. But I still found it very cathartic to write about. Anyway, enough of that old bollocks… have a listen: http://soundcloud.com/skollob/bad-riddance PS: it's mixed solely on headphones, so I'm keen to know how it sounds on your own systems. Most likely either either a tinny wreck or a muddy soup, but hopefully somewhere between the two.
I really did have no hope
I presume so yes. The local was put into all the nerves from my neck after i was ut out under the general so it was limp from the shoulder down, like an elephants trunk swinging
oh dear. my demand of a wheelchair might end up being more necessary than just a demand. -
ah, that explains it all then! Thanks for your help
I was a bit out of it still when they let me WALK out last night! Hopefully worth it to have the specialist surgeon do it rather than an emergency patch up job when it happened. I had a general and a local so the bones could be drilled, the local anaesthetic lasted until tea time today so my arm was just hanging limp too. Best wishes with the leg though
mmm, i had local anaesthetic for dental surgery one time... it felt like half my mouth was missing when i took a drink or ate something. I'm just out of it on painkillers at the minute though. Do you have to get physio? -
Evenin, must have missed your emails to us on this apologies! The ABM 400 is 400 watts at 4 ohms, the confusion may have been that it will put out around 250 watts at 8 ohms... Hope this helps! Lee @ Ashdown
Thanks lee, but i was more wondering why it is different in appearance to most other ABM 400 heads, in the way that is isn't blue, but looks more like the 5th anniversary ABM500 head. Like, did you run out of blue ones, or is their something special about this one?
Well my hand was only held on by the small bone (ulna?) as the end of the big one (radius?) was blown clean off, the specialist operates from a different hospital on Tuesday's, I did it on Saturday so I presume they just decided it was better long term for the hand surgeon to do it yesterday rather than someone else doing it as an emergency on the Sunday as first planned. Everyone else having ops were clearly people that had been on waiting lists for weeks, the only downside (and I'm still very grateful to them) was that I'd say it was border line for the day surgery really, I think I should of been in overnight to be honest on a normal ward. As I said I am grateful for them slotting me in to the specialist surgeons schedule though and I'm much better now. My arm hurts like feck and is as big as a house though, that's not their fault though I electrocuted it all by myself! Fingers crossed you will be sorted soon
Obviously your circumstances were far more urgent than mine, but i still have taken long term sick leave from work and school, meaning that my plans for the future have gone in the bin because it has taken so long. My appointments have been classed as urgent.... since september. The furthest along i got was having an ultrasound done on my leg the other day, even though the consultant had already referred me for an MRI. I would have thought something like that was an overnight stay though Pete? just having a wrist reconditioned? when i get to surgery, i'm not leaving the hospital unless they give me a free wheelchair. then i'm going to race tractors down the big hill outside my house in it. -
Drum kit for 17yr starter - Xmas present type thing.

http://www.thomann.d...nado_jazzbl.htm pff, wow! now that is their heapy cheapy model, but they have a big range of models, so you could go onto the next one if your friend was looking something a bit more.... professional looking/sounding. but that would get him started for a few hundred quid EDIT- my mate spent around £600 on a mapex meridian birch kit, but then he also had to buy cymbals and the like, which brought the total cost to over a grand. and that is a semi-pro kit. -

both my drumming mates would recommend an entry level mapex kit, with a set of sabien cymbals. you can get sabian cymbals in packs, and i think they start around £150/£200. a mapex kit... hmm... i think i'm right in saying it would be around the same (or maybe slightly cheaper) than the gretsch. -
I think there's quite a few aren't listed there. My old MAG400 combo and an old Klystron head that I saw in a rehearsal room recently, for starters.
I didn't think over the past 15 years that they had only made 20ish different products.

I know there was a bit of an argument on a local forum in NI that you shouldn't send your kid to a guitar (or any instrument) tutor without the tutor having a clearance to work with children, like teachers and doctors have. Personally, i agree. You don't know what kind of sick bastard you are sending your kid to, but also, can you be that cynical? I know that the place i go to, all the teachers have their access NI clearance checks done, but then all the teachers there are incredibly nice people. I have been talking to them at gigs and all sorts, and i can't imagine any of them (apart from one) who would get drunk, do drugs, or even get into a minor scuffle outside a pub on a saturday night. Does the registry have anything to do with filtering out opportunistic pedophiles, is my question?
Just want the op ASAP , was tomorrow but not going to be for a few days now
eh f*** off? i've been waiting months to get my leg sorted. i'm not able to do a damn thing, and the farthest i am is "we will schedule an MRI scan, it will be a few weeks". ... Sorry, i just got really annoyed when i read that for some reason. I didn't mean it personally, i am just fed up with waiting. But i hope you get sorted soon, and it doesn't effect your playing in future bad bit of luck that all the same. construction jobs are the most dangerous after all. -
ernie balls, because the shop had nothing else But i actually changed my mind about the balls and decided they were alright. (not the first time i have said that :/)

not really a classic by any means, but a good driving baseline- look around by RHCP. some of their new stuff is immense. or you could go for a real classic, like californication, but that might bore people to sleep, because it's quite slow and sparse. Do you have a band during your performance, or is it just solo? EDIT- also just noticed you have a wal bass... maybe something BSSM era? Or yeno.... there are a couple of other bands out there too. never listenened to any of them personally.
