Got it meself in both ears. Some days worse than others but I've learned to live with it. If I'd known better when I was younger I'd have been more careful. Same goes for a lot of things!
I've had it from birth. gotten worse the last few years. I really wish i didn't have it, and was able to hear like everyone else. but then, bad hearing runs in my family.
ive already got a t/bird copy and ive been working on making it playable all weekend, its now got a great action and sounds good as well even after i took out my emg pup and put the original one back in i just need the headless bridge and string retaining plate, unfortunately i had to let one pass on the bay today as i just bought a 15 inch speaker for my new budget rig
Dude, you are like the thrift king. Speaking as a man from a place well known for being "tight" whilst having many many rich people, you put quite a few of those rich people to shame EDIT- i mean that only as a compliment. everybody wants something great for not a lot of money
its for sale cheap if you want it, ive got most of the paint of it and have pups bridge electrics and plate if you want it, the body still needs a lot of sanding though and is an ideal project but ive run out of necks! im planning on a headless thunderbird if i win the hardware! pm me if your interested in a deal for the jazz stuff
headless thunderbird... now there is an idea. the only true way to make it playable i suppose. well done you! how about starting the body from scratch and flipping it so the big horn is on the top (like it should be) and that would but the strap button somewhere around the 12/14th frets.

I'm giving up on this this month. I'll be better prepared for next month
Congrats, and regret not doing this myself - my two boys do too! Both play bass (on primarily a drummer) and would really appreciate a 20 year old Fender! Choice of bass, yes, got to be timeless, US Precision all the way. If they don't want it its little nest egg they can flog for what they do want. Might even be interested yourself!
No way! there is nothing more common than a US precision. I would say jazz, MM, or even something a bit more radical.... dingwall?
Like it
No, i liked it when it was playing, now it isn't playing, i don't like it I would like it if it was playing again.
Yup. General consensus is that it's midnight on the 23rd. Late submissions are welcome but obviously have less opportunity to win votes, and you run the risk of turning into a pumpkin. Or something.
oh god, i hate pumpkins! CAN'T... BE... LATE! *falls asleep*

ah, free lead, saves me having to steal it from people's roofs.

when is the closing date? next friday? anyway, i did the euromillions earlier, so if i win, i'll just buy a full pro studio, and get jeeves to do all the boring parts for me. I'll just f***ing rock the house down! actually, i would probably pay for some private medical treatment, and spend the rest on insuring my peugeot 106 (god, insurance is expensive!).

just back from the music shop- LET'S GET ROCKIN! (in the words of Mr.Sneebly)
Ah, I didn't write anything, I just played what my eyes and ears told me (oh and the little voices in my head lol). Shows too
I didn't mean physically write. I have a chord progression, but it's all in the rhythm, and i don't know what to do with the bassline or anything else. i have a bit of a melody too.
Cant wait
It might be more combustion than composition... How do you guys right music? i'm having awful trouble here. Edit- WRITE* er-durrrr!

i'm having great fun with my tiny controller keyboard right now. prepare to hear some weird synth crap done by an incompetent incapacitated oaf.
Welcome Peter, For a guy who's not been playing long you have a lot of good gear, Be careful, you will be diagnosed with a severe case of GAS soon. Cheers Leen.
Precisely! we need columbo on the case! Anyway, welcome! self promotion is fine.... as long as you aren't better than me

great bass players with terrible technique, are there any?
Yeah thats not the sort of thing I mean, its the "how to play....." type ones where they have got all the notes in the right order but clearly not grasped the style and expression within the music. I think its the arrogance associated with having learned a technique perfectly and thinking that they have mastered the instrument. Its the sort of thing that builds fear into anyone who is self taught ever getting a bass lesson because they think they will be told to start again, and "do it properly this time!" Not all teachers are like that!
I'm soon to be a bass teacher, and i wouldn't say something like that. the way somebody plays is their style. I happen to like flea's style, even though it sounds like his right hand is sawing a tree trunk. Good technique isn't the be all and end all, and unless something is drastically wrong, or i can see somebody injuring themselves, i wouldn't criticise it. I also wouldn't be that condescending to say "do it right this time". nothing puts me off learning more than having that "i'm in charge here" figure. I learn best with a bit of banter (hopefully my students will too, because i'm not really into being that teacher that is like "you must do this!") -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHXA5MYd4xg&feature=youtu.be It's the RHCP track, redone! This one has pretty good sound quality, and better playing from me. What do you think?
I've always found that the players have 'exemplary technique' have so because they have spent years mastering technique, not music. Generally they have no 'feel' or taste and an unhealthy obsession with playing as many notes as its possible to fit in a bar, and a few more for good measure. The expressive players, the ones that have soul, tend to be self-taught and tend not to post videos on YouTube every week showing people their excellent technique... (runs for cover) on another note, I will say that although I can't stand Rush, I observed Geddy Lee's technique, I don't know if its bad or good, but I tried it, it was hard at first but for the first time in 20 years of playing I got the sound I wanted without the string clanking against every fret on the board!
I don't post videos to show off my technique, TBH, technique is something that i don't put a lot of thought into. I have never been told i have bad technique, so why would i worry about it? I post videos to fill some time in my day as i now have absolutely nothing to do, and can't go anywhere. But i agree with everything else you said before that. -
Just to let you all know, my 'tinitus' was caused by 'having my ears syringed'!
oh damn, really? i was always told i needed my ears syringed to improve my hearing.....

Sound guru Dave Rat did a series on youtube about the best headphones. Although i think he was using it more for live sound monitoring rather than mixing or recording.
in fairness, when the voting starts next week, charic puts them in one vote post so they are all there easy to access, but your idea is good. it might also that way spread it around the forum
Yes, that's what i was thinking. i didn't know about this until chadic said a few days ago.

It's quite hard to actually find other peoples recordings in this thread, so i was thinking, when you record your competition piece, we should all put a link to that piece in our signatures, that way it's easier to find, and you also know who created the piece.
Why render to Mp3 to import into Soundcloud ? [For this Competition] Soundcloud accepts Wav files. Garry
I'm only converting to mp3 for the sake of my youtube cover. when i record for this competition, it will be a much higher quality file format and compression codec.
