the squier is a top runner at the moment - i've just been a bit put off by its looks, might see if i can double sided tape a pickguard to it. in an ideal world, it would be black/tort - but i dont think thatll happen.

My girlfriend has said she'll buy me a fretless bass, im currently looking at that lake placid blue SX jazz on rondomusic, but was just wondering what else is out there? the squir VM one should do the trick but i just dont like the jaco-esque look to it.

im going to try it out with some blending - but i think the tone of the distortion sounds better with the tone rolled to the left anyway.

some lovely boards on here, im giving mine a proper overhaul tonight.

Not everyone can do this, and I certainly wouldn't want to.[/quote] Solid state all the way baby, pearce BC1 preamp. i've just got an animato it's quite a sexy distortion, i'd read somewhere that it was sh*t and on other places that it was good - but i love the tone of it. the tone knob NEEDS to be all the way to the left, otherwise you go into bass loss-playing through a radio-central.

i found the odb-3 was a bag of poo, the only good tones i could get from it were slightly aggressive very low gain ones - which is usually how i set up my clean sound anyway so it was useless. same with the people i've seen use it live, it's either been terrible or i've thought "you should set up your clean sound to how your odb-3 sounds and get a mega evil distortion" oh well ey? everyone's tastes are different i guess.

tracking and tone varies from my experience. the old wh1 whammy is king.

stacking up gain is a great way to get some meaty thick sounds, i've found that people always say certain things should always go in a certain order, but you may find you prefer the sounds of a totally different signal chain - just sit on your floor for ages switching everything around and see what sounds best to you. I love the sound of my tech21 comptortion driving my cranetortoise DD-1B but it sounds totally different the other way round (even though you can get similar sounds from both pedals)

cheers, yeah it's a comptortion and the board is loads smaller just for ease of transport. i still have my other pedals and bring a few extra every now and then

here's my board looking a little bit messy.

pedalboard goes through the pearce bc1 preamp and into the 4x10, clean signal goes into the sansamp and into the 2x10. using both channels on my poweramp

i currently use a Tech21 CompTortion into a Cranetortoise DD-1B, just the comptortion for my first stage - then switch both on for my second stage... FILTHY!!!!!!

all the basslines that i think of in my head i would be able to play if i knew them, but i have trouble getting them from my brain to my fingers - but sometimes its easy peasey, any tips on getting them out of myself easier?

oooh, i wouldnt mind some picture of my in progress bass (not sure how much is even done), last time i checked the neck was being worked on. jet king shaped body with darkstars and blocked neck etc for anthony wright.

i cant see the pole pieces clearly enough, but dont model J's have the little dimples in the top, like allen key holes.
