i think the palmer and the mooer would be unsuitable as the speaker emulation rolloffs only happen on the XLR out,

so you wouldnt be able to apply them just to the suncoast, where as with something like the custom screaminator above, you could.


plus, with a custom option you can tune exactly which frequencies are cut, leaving the low end unaltered.

i say going with any sort of killer filter or EQ in the suncoast loop is your best bet, something tiny

another thing to consider though ste, and this was a big factor in me not picking up a bass VI, was i found that the pickups (arrangement or type whatever) left it sounding a bit plain or indistinct, was lacking that character of a good P or J bass.

and i know you're a man who likes a good sounding bass hah.

they used to do the super boost DI with the filters, if you put something like that or the SFX pedal in the loop (which comes after the eq etc and before the limiter)
then the roll off should only be in effect with the suncoast engaged

that is some jazzy fabric, some guy on TB has it, yeah with my suncoast i use my palmer PDI-09, passive just makes it convenient

the VI hadnt made a return when that guitar was floating about.

the VI i referenced above had to be strung with a normal bass string when we couldnt source a set of VI strings on tour, it seemed fine for the guy using it, think it was the low E he replaced

went on tour with a band that used one a couple of years ago, sounded cool but the string spacing is MEGA tight.

i'd like to hear one with some new pickups, maybe normal bass ones.

one thing to point out, the guy who had one was tearing his hair out trying to find replacement strings for it whilst on tour, he'd snapped one and we couldnt find a set ANYWHERE in UK or EU

this! the fan is switchable on my power amp (demeter minnie 800d) and it went all weird and super nasty (awful distortion) on me at one gig until i realised the fan switch had been knocked, been fine ever since

i still love my barefaced super 15, i have zero trouble with note definition, it puts out all the gnarly mids i put into it, but with a solid bottom end, though i never mic mine up and just use it for stage monitoring, with my demeter 800w power amp it can get WAY loud

i do agree that the logo is awful, a strip of black gaffa soon sorted that out

id try the "send" into a di box and see how that sounds, but if the di works live but not when recording it points to a problem with the recording gear?

my super 15 is still the best cab ive ever used, it doesnt look as pretty as i dont cover it when its in transit, so the grille is a bit dented etc and paint and wood chips,

and i gave up putting the feet back on eventually, so it leans forward a bit

still sounds insane though

if i needed tone shaping and DI in one box, my vote would go for the Darkglass Electronics Vintage Microtubes or the Tech21 VT Bass DI (had originally written this off, but heard some more demos today and was quite shocked by how ace it sounded),

for my own needs i run a Suncoast B1P bass Preamp into a Palmer PDI-09 passive DI with speaker sim (stops the distortions sounding fizzy out front) then into my power amp and cab

i always make sure i have a backup now!

pedaltrain volto all the way! had one break on me and they replaced it immediately from the UK supplier, no questions asked

easily the best customer service ive encountered
