Arriving, reflecting and departing - music for your funeral
Ashborygirl replied to snorkie635's topic in General Discussion
My funeral plan allows for four tracks, which are: Entrance: Surrender To The Rhythm- Brinsley Schwarz Reflection: New Town Velocity - Johnny Marr Photo montage: I'll Feel A Whole Better When Yoùre Gone - The Byrds Leaving: C'mon Feel The Noize - Slade -
I've always had good service from Andertons & they've given me hefty discounts for paying by debit card, rather than credit. GuitarGuitar & Coda have been similarly impressive.

I recall getting the first Fullerton reissue strats & JVs in the shop I worked in as a 14 year old. We had the JVs up for £199 & (I think) the Fullertons were about £400. Both were impossible dreams for me at the time.

Intrigued as to people's best ever bargains or the gear they sold, only to see the value rocket later. I'll kick off with a 2006 purchase of a mint '84 Wal Custom from eBay for £850. I thought I was Alan Sugar when I flipped it for £1600 a week later. I was offered it back during Covid for (gulp) £7k. I also sold 2 Klon Centaurs for £215 each around 2009. They're now 20 times that price.

Are short scale basses really as bad as they say?
Ashborygirl replied to Cheeto726's topic in General Discussion
Paul McCartney's used Hofners, a Ricky, a Jazz, a Yamaha, a Wal etc. Only 1 of them is still getting regularly gigged after 60 years & it's the only shorty. If it works, nothing else matters. -

Controversal opinion warning....... The Nordy Acinonyx is the most impressive new bass I've played in 40 years. It's short scale. Oh & I'd be pretty happy to have this tone as my only one too. https://youtu.be/-Qylhk6jsT0?si=iRDmdrRwgALy3kIV -

To be fair, these are Royal Mail failings, rather than the Post Office's. -
Teenage Kicks. Eulogized by the sort of psueds that make up the Later With Jools Holland audience, I could pick a dozen better songs from The Undertones.

I worked in child safeguarding for 10 years, specialising in cases that hadn't resulted in a criminal conviction. In Jackson's case the evidence would easily have reached the civil threshold for proving the allegations. The case was used for training new staff in evidence evaluation.

Is there a popular bass player, that you just don’t get?
Ashborygirl replied to Rayman's topic in General Discussion
Hold up, for that to be true the other half of the population would have to be above the average, which would mean no-one was of average intelligence. That in turn would mean my school reports were all lies. -

You may well be correct, I vaguely recall some rule about omitting multiples of the same number in a data set but its been 40 years since I left school. -

Unless my maths has gone the same way as most of my joints, I don't think it does. As an example, we have 10 people of whom 9 have 10 GCSEs & 1 person has 1 GCSE. The average (mean) is 9.1 GCSEs so only 1 person is below average, not 5. The median is 5.5 so, again, 1 person is below the median, not 5. -

Er....that's not how averages work. -

Fender custom shop new models… who cares!

Similar experience here. I tried several CS strats at Coda, all were great but one blew the rest away. It just sang in every position, the neck was exquisite and the finishing flawless. Turned out that guitar was a Ron Thorn masterbuilt. I bought it & everything else has felt dull & lifeless since. I can't say MBs are 100% worth it, only that my particular guitar was worth it to me. -
If you ever need to dispose of a body, just post it to yourself using Evri. Problem solved.

No you didn't, you just don't understand an either/or proposition. By your logic if you have enough cash to buy either an amp or a bass you can buy both. -

Show me where I said TE was budget. I'll wait.............. -
When Jim Reilly joined Stiff Little Fingers he sold his kit to get the money to go to the audition. He was offered the job & asked if he had any questions, 'can you fellas lend me a drum kit?'.
-
Not an audition but I once went to buy a bass from a guy in West Yorkshire (NOT a member on here, i should add). As soon as he opened the door I recognised him as a man I'd previously investigated for possessing indecent images of kids. In the style of the News of the World, I made my excuses & left.
