1.
Not sure Andy. I bought it from eBay way back, before the basstalk days I think. There are a few of these knocking about the uk - there were 2 in Northern Ireland at one point I believe
This was mine I think. There was 1 bass ordered with a factory fitted battery box & I bought it from the original owner on the Dude Pit, according to my paperwork, I sold it through eBay to a chap in Co. Antrim. I still have picture of the serial number somewhere, might go raking. I recall it was terrific, terrific bass.
2. Mike bought my Spector Shorty. Lovely chap, really enjoyed doing business him, recommended to everyone.
3. The AVRI range was finished in nitro BUT it was over a poly base coat, according to a Fender employee I spoke to about 15 years ago.
4. Lots of interest but still here folks.
5. Hi mate Yes, it has the hard case, I have sent you a PM so we can discuss options if you like.
6. Still here folks, at £1400 it's a lot of bass for your money.
7. £950 for a bass of this quality - wow, just wow. Whoever buys this will get a keeper, an awesome instrument in every respect for piss all money.
8. As others have said, the lack of a CBS or Norlin period in Ric's history, means you can buy a new bass that's made to the same standards as a 35 year old one. Rickenbacker take a lot of stick on here over the copies thing but I admire their resolve to protect the integrity of the brand.
9. I loved my XL2; deep, rich, singing tone, very comfortable neck. I hear rumours that Gibson have several containers full of NOS parts, enough to build several hundred XL2s, if only they'd bolt them all together & sell them .
10. My first bass, cost me £69 in 1983 & virtually every bass player in the school owned one.
11. If only, I'm not set up for home recording & have had very little opportunity to do anything with the bass. It probably has 5 hours play time on it, maximum.
12. Hi Dave Each pickup has it's own split on its respective volume control so you can run any combination of humbucker & single coil. With both pickups in single coil mode it does sound very much like EMG's J pickup set, a favourite of mine. Oddly enough i had comtemplated the exact same thing but the delivery time & lack of a discount steered me to this one. I can't say i was disapointed, it is a very versatile setup, I particularly like the bridge in singlecoil & neck in humbucking which is very full sounding but with a bit of Jazz like honk.
13. Thank you for the kind words. It is a superb instrument but I know many people think short scale = Gibson EB sound. The bolt on maple neck, maple top & modern electrics mean it's a million miles away from the Gibson tone, it's a modern sounding bass with a massive range of tones.
14. Tonally there is remarkably little difference, I find the attack not quite as quick with the shorty & it has a little more natural mid-range in the tone. The quality of the tone though remains & there's no doubt that this is a top end bass in that respect. The shorter scale is initially a surprise in terms of the playing feel but you quickly get used to it & it is supremely comfortable to play for hours at a time. What it's not is a Gibson short scale, you won't find the thumpy boom with the ultra short attack & extended bloom. This is the classic rich & complex Spector tone that cuts through great.
15. Folks Sold pending the usual, thank you. [s]Offered for sale is my GK MB200 amp. Only used at home as a headphone amp, great piece of kit that is extremely small & light and sounds spot on. Sale includes the original box, manual & power lead & everything is in tip top condition. £130 plus shipping, not interested in any trades thanks.[/s]
16. [s]Folks For reasons I wont go in to on a public message board, I'm quitting music for at least 18 months, possibly permanently. So here's my last bass for sale. This is a Spector USA Shorty bass. Originally designed for Garry Tallent, Stuart Spector decided to make this bass available to order to the general public & it offers all the luxury appointments of a USA Spector but with a 30.4 inch scale. The body is light weight mahogany with a superb quilted maple top & finished in a translucent black satin. The neck is a bolt on 3 piece maple affair with dual graphite rods and a pau ferro fingerboard. Hardwear consists of a Hipshot Type A bridge & Gotoh GB7 tuners. Electrics are a pair of EMG 35CS soapbars & an Aguilar OPB-3 preamp, controls are Vol / Vol / Mid /Stacked treble & bass and you also have push pull on each volume for coil tapping and a push pull on the mid to select frequency. If you want a boutique short scale bass your options are pretty limited. This offers the sort of sound feel & refinement that a discerning player will appreciate with the advantage of being an absolute breeze to play. The bass is immaculate & comes with the Spector hardcase. I haven't owned it long & I believe it is the only one in the country, retail is @ £2600, I paid £1850 but I will sell for £1400. Not interested in any trades or offers, happy to ship at your expense/risk. thanks[/s]
17.
The Bass Gallery had one recently for £1750 IIRC. It was #36 of 42 or something similar IIRC. Considering the cost of a new Pino signature (v nice Custom Shop with a quarter sawn neck) but still a P bass - and the sound difference possibly as much to do with standard fitment of Thomastik Icore flats as anything, £1750 seems OK to me. But then I am an aging Level 42 fan!!!! (And Pino fan).
If it was #36 then this is the same bass, albeit £2300 more now.
18. The DSRs give you the legal right to a refund. The shop is also guilty of fraudulent misrepresentation by advertising a returns policy and not honouring it. Don't let this drop & please name this retailer once the matter is resolved so I can add them to my blacklist.
19.
Rule 51: Please address any complaints about entertainment to the Entertainments Secretary. Thank you. Next up is a Swedish lad, bit of a twat but you might like him.
OT I know but I once saw the 4 Tops play a workies club in Oldham. The compere introduced them thus; "Here's four black lads from America, you may like them, I don't...."
20. Sold pending the usuals. Thanks for all the interest. Hey folks The on-off saga of my Dingwall continues! I've changed my mind about this bass twice previously but I just don't have the time to play it any more &, much as I'd love to keep it, I need the money. So it's here for £999 which is £400 less than a Chinese made Combustion & £1350 less than a new Afterburner 1. This is an amazing bass; impeccable build quality, fantastic action, great range of tones & it's a breeze to play. Weighs @ 7lb 12oz, great balance, comes with the Dingwall gig bag by Levis, the manual & all the tools. A bespoke, hand made Canadian bass at a give away price. Happy to ship if you're happy to bear the cost & risk, even happier for you to collect.
