  1. I have considered that but don't know if I could get a close enough match. Part of me thinks just darkening it to whatever shade it ends up would be a better visual balance, but the other part of me thinks it's part of the bass' charm and should be enjoyed for it's wonkiness. Another part of me thinks I need to stop waffling shite. πŸ˜‰
  2. Oh yeah, and I still can't get my head around who decided not to put that dark strip in the middle. πŸ™„πŸ˜
  3. Ooh, she's naked!! πŸ˜„ Just finished taking all the lacquer off, only with 80grit at the mo but will go down through the grades tomorrow to a nice smooth finish. I've slightly reshaped the neck, not a lot, but took some of the depth out of it and it feels nice. It was fun shaving it off wondering how deep the truss rod was. πŸ˜„ The red ink should be here in the next day or two and hopefully I'll get it stained over the weekend and then lacquer it next week. No reply from the decal man though, and that needs to go on before lacquering. There's some quite nice grain in places which hopefully will come out more once smooth and stained. I'm considering cleaning and sanding the fretboard, then lacquering that as well, a la Rickenbacker. The only problem is that the frets aren't very tall so with the board lacquered they might just be too low to play well. To be decided. One cool thing, the side dot markers are brass as well as the front ones. Still need to scrape out the rear cavity. I kind of feel guilty taking all the age out of it, but it's a pretty worthless lump anyway so it's allowed I think πŸ™‚πŸ‘
  4. Was that the standard ones or the neos? I find the neos very very close to the SD 1/4 pound pickups. But the 1/4 pounds are a marmite pickup I suppose. Also mine have dropped straight in on both Precisions I fitted them to, they are deeper due to the large magnets but luckily my cavities allowed for this. There's definitely better pickups around, but on a budget I think they're one of the best. Horses for courses though, and not traditional P sound. At the moment my favourite budget pickup supplier is Warman. They do some fantastic stuff at very reasonable prices. The Stingray copy I used is superb.
  5. Probably going in the wrong direction sound (and looks) wise, but if SD 1/4 Pounds are your thing then the Entwistle PBXN & JBXN pickups are fantastic. I actually prefer them to the 1/4 pounds as they have that same feel but not quite so scooped, a bit more middy. Excellent value rather than 'cheap'. πŸ˜‰πŸ‘
  6. I've sent a message to a chap I've used on ebay before for waterslide decals. He'll design them from a brief so hopefully can work with that picture. Let's see what happens.
  7. OK thanks, I'll have a search in a bit. Yes I thought about that, but the headstock wings that aren't the neck through part are tiny slivers on either side. I could do the next layer in as well and leave the middle one but it still wouldn't look right. I reckon, in the words of Steve Marriott, it's all or nothing.
  8. @Bassassin Is the Powersound sticker on one of your basses? If so is there any chance of a photo of it from directly above, to get an image with parallel edges, so that I can get one, or two @Reggaebass, printed? πŸ˜‰πŸ‘
  9. Why does every 'New Bass Day' rapidly turn into 'More Work Day' where I'm involved? πŸ˜„ I've got some deep red calligraphy ink coming to stain the two wings with, as I've always liked the Arias and Westones with that look. I went through all sorts of colours but have just gone for classic red. I'm just not sure whether to do the headstock red. A matched headstock would be great but the centre neckthrough part will be natural on the body so feels like it should be natural on the headstock. Off to look at pictures.
  10. I didn't really play it much after it arrived before ripping it apart, I knew I wanted a reverse P. The EA side is only around half a pickups width further towards the bridge, as the whole unit moved towards the neck after the reverse, so hadn't really changed that much. A tad more focused maybe but that could be in my head. The DG though is a world of difference, much fuller and warmer sounding. That slightly underwhelming, tinny G string that you usually get on a P, actually most basses, is now a full on meaty G. It just balances much better. In fact I need to lower the DG and raise the EA as it's now, if anything, slightly overpowering. But I think that's just getting the pickup heights set properly as it's all in fresh holes now. I think it will really come into its own in a band setting where normally the G gets a little lost. The Who's 'The Real Me' should sound epic now.
  11. I'd guess that's a normal one which you could bend the connectors on, being that it's mounted in a plate like that. A barrel one is usually mounted in a single hole bored through the side of the body.

  13. 24hr Party People. Story of Tony Wilson and Factory Records. A comedy only because Factory was such a shambles. "Thirty grand for a f**cking table, c**nt?"
  14. See Her Pee - NOFX Edit to add this lyrical masterpiece. It's only fair that everyone should get a chance to enjoy it. πŸ˜„
  15. Ha ha, I said was annoying me. It was just in the way all the time and I'm not having a ponytail or a f'ing 'manbun'. There was a lot of hair in the bin by the time I'd finished. 😁
  16. What Differential Does It Make - The Smiths
  17. The J pickup on those are pretty monstrous. Lovely bass. πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
  18. I love all sorts of finishes but always end up at vintage white with a black scratchplate. Classic and classy. πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
  19. There must be some royalties owed there Stew. πŸ˜πŸ‘
  20. That sounds like a great way to celebrate a life.
