  1. I know it's not an answer to the question being asked but I genuinely think one of the most important things to learn as a beginner is how to do a basic set up. Nothing crazy, just neck relief, string height, intonation, pick up height, and nut slots if you're up for it. It can make almost any average bass into an excellent bass. Taking it somewhere to be done is all well and good but we're all different and if you don't know what you want/like then you're just getting what someone else thinks you should have. If your bass plays nicely then you'll want to play it, if it doesn't you won't. A basic set up is really very easy and can be done with less than a tenners worth of tools.
  2. If you want to try flats then the Olympia ones on eBay are cheap and I think they sound great. I think I prefer them to my D'addario Chromes. With an offer you should be able to get them for £15.
  3. The seller hasn't put forward a price yet but he's not to be trusted anyway. Someone question the 'wear', or more accurately asked, "Has it had sex with a belt sander?" The seller replied that he bought it like that. His post history on the group shows he bought it in 2017 in good condition, then three months later he posted pictures of it looking like this, three years later claimed the wear was genuine when asked about it. Basically it being a lefty, the seller being a liar, and that it's in Africa makes me run faster and further than Forest Gump.
  4. There's a green 1200s lefty for sale on Facebook that has been attacked with a sander, poor thing. An absolute shame as looking at the sellers previous posts on the vintage yamaha group it was in really good nick six years ago when he bought it, then three months later he was claiming the wear was 100% natural. Natural if you use it to test out power tools I suppose.
  5. Sunny Side of the Street - The Pogues (RIP Mr. MacGowan)
  6. This is sound advice. I'd suggest getting a fretless. It can be played as per your 'regular' basses but can also open up a whole new world of bass. If you buy the right one second hand but don't get on with it then simply move it to on.
  7. And there just happens to be an unplayed, Sparkling Burgundy one on eBay for a monkey.
  8. Flying Without Wings - Westlife (key change, all stand)
  9. Yes, is the short answer. All the other nonsense about wood and fairies will follow. 😉
  10. What are we calling streaky? Maybe it's not showing up in the pictures, or maybe I'm being daft, but all I can see is the different laminates of wood taking up the stain differently. If it is this then it's unavoidable as differing woods will absorb the stain differently, resulting in varying shades.
  11. Exactly. Totally appreciate the heads up. I didn't get the £12 ones but £16 is still a bargain. 👍
  12. Insane from the Methane - Cypress Hill
  13. ... to not be so antagonistic and things might not have got so out of hand. 😐
