  1. Not forgetting "ring in peace".
  2. I don't like any Christmas songs until a week before Christmas, when I enjoy them all. Apart from that warbling, hamster faced monstrosity, Carey, who can shove her song up her hole! I'm particularly fond of the Jona Lewie and Wham ones though. It's great though isn't it how music can evoke such feelings and emotions. My daughter always says she only has to hear the opening synth stab of 'Wonderful Christmastime' and it instantly feels like Christmas, yet it was released 20 years before she was born. So I'll nominate that one as well as it'll be our first Christmas without her at home. Oh god, here I go.
  3. There were indoor gigs happening in pubs (not music venues) in Plymouth by bands (not duos) comprising of non professional musicians for a month or two leading up until this last lockdown, to the point I was getting fed up of explaining to people why my bands weren't gigging.
  4. I Believe I'll Dust My Broom (Robert Johnson)
  5. This could be an expensive video to watch. 😁
  6. Ouch! That's pretty steep, unless it's something special, and even then.
  7. Another Girl Another Planet (The Only Ones)
  8. Well, there's the rub, a thousand of them. 🤣
  9. They used to have wood tuners............. ........... but they wooden stay in tune. They 'wooden' stay in tune, They 'wooden' stay............. ah forget it! 😁
  10. Not all modern Hofners have a centre block (or sustain block as they like to call it). The budget end Ignition series are completely hollow, the Contemporary series have a centre block and full fat German made one's are back to hollow again, there may possibly be German made ones with a centre block, I'm not sure. The Ignition have what they call 70s pickups while the Contemporary and German ones have the same pickups. It's an odd choice as, if you're not buying a German one, you have to decide whether you want traditional pickups, or a traditional body. I wanted fully hollow so went for a Ignition Club bass. It seems silly to me to pay double the price to get the correct pickups, but then have to give up that hollow body, it's what a Hofner's all about. Obviously the build quality gets better with the increased price.
  11. How dare those pesky youngsters go around enjoying music that the older generation don't understand. It wasn't like it in my day.................. oh, hang on.
  12. Spasticus Autisticus (Ian Dury And The Blockheads) I know, I'm going to hell.
  13. Eagles at Wembley, was supposed to be August just gone, but was rescheduled for August 2021. I'm not overly fussed about them but it was a present for my wife so I booked a really nice hotel for the Saturday and Sunday night as it's the Bank Holiday weekend. Luckily the hotel let us change the booking to 2021 with no change in price. Whether it will still go ahead remains to be seen.
  14. Beer & Sex & Chips 'n' Gravy (The Macc Lads)
  15. It'll only be an investigative rub, so to speak. I'll definitely be refinishing it as I'm not a fan of natural wood basses. I'll just get the blue/purple off as I don't know what paint that is and see what's underneath paintwise. Hopefully it'll still have the original paint, or more importantly, the sealer/primer so I won't need to go back to bare wood. So many people seem so insistent on stripping all the finish off when refinishing and then have the issues of painting bare wood, unnecessary work stripping which then needs more work painting. Thanks for the advice on pickups, but I'm not sure I want to spend £200 on them yet. I'll see what's available. Mounting dimensions and method for whatever I get is largely irrelevant as I'll be making a new scratchplate, just string width to worry about. I've got a Hofner Club so not massively worried about get that Hofner shortscale sound as I've already got it. I'll probably gather some parts, get the body painted and do it as a little over Christmas project. 🙂
