  1. Not joking no. I'm aware of where the custom paints originated but there aren't any 'normal' car manufacturers offering the old school candy colours nowadays. Candy is a metallic base coat (usually gold or silver) with a tinted lacquer built up in several layers over the top, three stage pearl is similar but not the same, and a sparkle finish (metallic is different) is unheard of in current standard car finishes. Candy and sparkle are completely different things. Most bodyshops won't even have a gun set up with a large enough air cap to spray a proper sparkle, the flakes are very big compared to metallic, it'll go through a primer gun but not nicely. The fact is a sparkle finish is more costly to supply and apply than a standard finish. I was just offering my advice as someone who's been in automotive refinishing and custom paintwork for over thirty years, but maybe I shouldn't bother.
  2. Not necessarily. A standard finish, yes, but sparkle is a different kettle of fish to any standard car finish. Also for this reason a 'cost effective' sparkle finish might be a stretch. Standard poly finish would be primer, couple coats of base colour and a couple of coats of lacquer, all done wet on wet, ie not drying or flatting between coats as it's not necessary, then very minimal polishing, if needed. Sparkle would be primer then base colour, then multiple layers of heavy flake, then multiple layers of lacquer to bury the sparkle flake. It would probably need drying, or at least a very long flash off time between stages due to the amount of material going on. Then a lot of flatting and polishing to lose the contours of the flake to get a flat finish. Much more product is used and it's far more time consuming. There are other techniques to achieve these finishes but the time and material differences are roughly the same. ๐Ÿ™‚
  3. You appear to be getting rather worked up over someone not understanding what you see as basic physics. Yet I don't understand why you, or anyone else, hasn't thought of the, to me, blindingly obvious answer to the problem of the high action on the fretless part. Ask yourself this, why does the board have to be the same height along its length? If the fretless part was the same height as the top of the frets then you could achieve a nice low action on both the fretted and fretless areas, whichever way around they were. Even better action could be achieved for fretless if the fretless part were at the lower end as the nut could be filed right down, nearly to the board as a fretless should be. Some people don't/can't visualise things the way that others can, but there's no reason to belittle them. ๐Ÿ™‚
  4. Watermelon Sugar (Harry Styles) Get me with a current song, I'm all hip with the kids don'tcha know! ๐Ÿ˜
  5. I took great pleasure in taking my computer to the tip after it sat there, taking up space, for three years without even being switched on. I'm not a ludite, I gig with a Variax, into a digital multi pedal, DI'd into an X Air virtual desk and control my mix with a tablet, but if it does nothing to make my life easier/simpler then I'm not interested.
  6. The Man With The Child In His Eyes (Kate Bush) ๐Ÿ™Š
  7. This thread has reminded how many songs in our setlist are already covers. This is much better than The Coasters' version.
  8. The Night (Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons)
  9. Wade In The Water (Marlena Shaw) Edit: Had to add the track just because it's such a good version. What a voice!
  10. As an aside, the village pub where they were knocking the wall down over looking the Tamar Valley used to be a regular haunt as a teenager. I had to pretend I was 19 on my 17th birthday in there as I'd already been drinking there for a year. The room they were knocking into used to be 'the back room' where they had bands every Friday and Saturday, and it would be absolutely rammed every weekend. It had a kind of crazy vibe where pretty much anything went. One of the locals would appear in the side door to the little pool room with a tea towel covered baking tray that he'd just walked right through the village with, "Tuck in" he'd say as he took the towel off of a tray full of dried mushrooms. Had a few years of crazy times centered around that pub. It also amused me that when asked what he wanted to drink in there, Tom Kerridge said, "Just water please, I don't drink". Then went on to explain why pubs aren't making as much money. ๐Ÿ˜…
  11. Cake have done some brilliant covers. Not necessarily better than Sabbath, but I love their version of War Pigs.
  12. The Ska & Mod revival period brought with it some great covers of original scene. The Specials and The Jam are right up there but The Beat, and later Fine Young Cannibals, did some fantastic covers of pop songs. This is a favourite. I prefer The Slits version of 'Heard It Through The Grapevine' to Marvin Gaye's. The little known UK Renegades did a little known version of the little known Bill Haley track '13 Women' which one of my favourites songs ever. If The Beatles had tried harder they could've been this good ๐Ÿ˜‰. This is where I first the The Slits' Grapevine, loved this album when I was younger but lent it to a mate and never saw it again. I used to love that an unknown local band (Golant Pistons) were on there. I think the whole album of covers will play on that link, apart from Devo's Satisfaction, which is missing, copyright I presume.
  13. This looks like a fun way of playing with no pubs open at the mo. https://www.facebook.com/DrumTalkTV/videos/712427718835895/ Sorry about the Facebook link, can't seem to embed the clip, I assume it's a fb thing.
  14. Very nice, and like you say, being HB it'll be very playable I'd imagine. I think @stewblackhas their P bass in the same finish, it also looks a beaut. Also, dare I say it, I prefer the headstock shape to Fenders.
  15. Driving home for Christmas (Chris Rea) Too early? ๐Ÿ˜
  16. I've sent you a PM with my details. Just let me know how much you want for p&p. ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘
