Protest songs that still hold up years later
Maude replied to darkandrew's topic in General Discussion
I don't wish to seem insensitive but 'Nelson Mandela' by The Special Aka takes on a whole new meaning now. Get the shovels boys! -
I've read that book, first the bottom of the pages curled up, then I couldn't handle the action.
-
I did exactly the same once. Luckily the seller lived too far away to make it viable.
-
@Silvia Bluejay @Happy Jack That one immediately sprang to mind when I read the first post.
-
I find it easy enough, it's just having enough stamina and strength. Not totally no, I always assumed it was just D but will admit I've never broken it down. I'll have a look later.

Lots of Peter Hooks line are like that, you don't need to be flash to make a song.

That's just it though, I'm not having a problem now. The first reply sorted my issue. Yes there are other ways to do what I want but I don't need to look any further. I don't need anything more than my phone for what I need, data's a non issue as most contracts give me more than I could possibly use and home is unlimited. I appreciate all the replies but I genuinely don't understand why so many people are trying to find a problem. If it works for me then it works for me, no? We don't all need, or want the same thing. I'm going to respectfully bow out of this thread at this point as it seems to be going in circles. Thanks everyone ๐๐

Why let that get in the way of a good thread ๐

I quite agree. From all these 'simple bassline' songs you could compile a cracker of a setlist. It's not so much what you play as how you play it.
-
If you let the pianist do it it's even easier for the bassist.

I have no use for a computer. Not really sure how to react to the question. People were consuming recorded music a long time before computers were common place. Say I open the files on my phone, is plugging headphones in not the easiest thing to do? I can then listen to it whilst sat on the sofa without disturbing anyone. Or I could plug my phone into, or bluetooth it to the Ashdown B Social I use for practice if I want to play it out loud. Other scenarios which I don't do could include the use of powered monitors, sending it to Sonos style speakers, connecting to home hifi, even plugging it into the PA at our rehearsal room so we can listen as a band. None of these need to be tethered to a computer, and surely a computer would need to send the audio to one of the sound reproduction systems listed above anyway. Technology should make life easier, if it doesn't I find no reason to use it, it's really that simple.

Only a Line6 X3 so it should only act as one pedal I assume. Like I said it could've just been me not quite being on it. Mirror in the Bathroom is pretty fast so will feel off if not tight. The gig was shite so we'll see how the next two are as they will be good enjoyable gigs.
-
Used it for a gig on Saturday. No issues with dropping out or interference, no change in volume or tone that I noticed, but, I think the latency might be an issue. A couple of times I had a feeling of being out of time even I though I was playing in time, Mirror in the Bathroom was a particular struggle, and another but, I wasn't 'feeling it' at Saturdays gig, I don't know why but it could've been me and not the wireless. No gig next weekend but we've got two the following week so I'll persevere and see how it goes.

I'll also add Transmission by Joy Division.
-
No me neither but yes, pretty sure it's just D from start to finish.

Which bass is the winner? Hofner Club vs Danelectro 56 single cut
Maude replied to Paul S's topic in Bass Guitars
There's a Shaftsbury 12 string in the same colour as the bass above. Obviously I can't link to it but the listing title might be something like 'Vintage Copy (some numbers a tiny bit higher than 329-11)12-string Electric Guitar? Project Japan Copy', or similar. It's in America though. -

Here's a thread about an Antoria jazz bass from a few years ago, the pictures are now missing but there's some info that might be of interest.

Worse! How could it be any worse? Rickenbacker Rickenbacker Rickenbacker

I know, that'll save me having to delete them ๐

He only started using it for this purpose and it cost him a tenner a month. It hasn't done what we wanted how we wanted so we're not using it. WeTransfer seems to be doing what we want how we want for free so we are using it. Granted I wasn't using Dropbox in the way it's meant, but there's enough free file sharing sites out there not to have to bother with one you don't like. I don't like Jazz basses, it doesn't mean they don't work or aren't any good, just that they don't seem to offer what I'm after so I don't use them. ๐

So does ignoring Dropbox and using WeTransfer ๐

The drummer has bought a hard drive just for band stuff so doesn't need the extra storage, or want to pay a tenner a month for it. He'll keep the files on that and just share via WeTransfer as, at the mo, it really does seem very user friendly. The expiring in seven days thing is actually better I think as none of us will want to go back and listen to a random complete set from months ago, any individual songs that get mixed properly can be saved to individual devices if wanted but will end up on social media where they can be accessed in the future anyway. The drummer is retired and likes the mixing side of things so we let him get on with it, a relative of his works in music production of some sort and has mixed some recordings previously with great results as well, so we'll just get sent tracks with a "what do you think of this?" he'll always have the master files so it won't matter if ours disappears. It looks like you can save stuff to the app anyway if you want to keep stuff. We'll use it and see how it goes. Thanks everyone, hopefully I'm all sorted. ๐
