1. Aria P copy (£40 s/h) with 1/4lbs and Chromes fitted. Did loads with that including weddings and beer festival with 1200 audience. I love it.
2. Both of mine turned up yesterday, haven't tried them yet but I'm sure they're worth a couple of quid each.
3. No furry tail or tuner. To be fair I'd be happy with either
4. I paid through PayPal so I'll just claim it back. Haven't had any email from them.
5. I have a horrible feeling I might have paid four quid for one tuner. When I clicked that link above it said I've bought one item and paid four pounds for it. It does also state one per customer but I didn't read that when I ordered. So all the multiple purchasers may have just donated some extra money. Nevermind, I'll wait and see what turns up
6.
Wonderful. Love this kind of thing.
Agreed Obviously appreciate the expensive builds by the pros but I really love the kind of 'make it up as you go along out of bits of scrap' type of builds. I think it shows real innovation and the instruments have something special about them when finished.
7.
Wonderful. Love this kind of thing.
8. Yeah I got that as well.
9.
Mmmm, how did you manage that? I thought it was limited to one per applicant. Pray tell....
I ordered two as far as I'm aware. Clicked on amount thingy, selected two and paid four quid. I'll see what turns up
10. Can you not go through the PA and just use your amp for monitoring?
11. I know how you feel. I've just another band and have fifty songs to learn by the end of the month, including rehearsals and gigs with the band I'm already in. The new band is Mod, Northern Soul and Ska so some real fun tunes to play, but like you say, the easy ones seem to be harder to remember.
12. You can make the most of smaller lights if they struggle to illuminate the stage well by pointing them at the ceiling above you, it's usually white and will reflect the light around much better than aiming them down at all the dark objects.
13. Is it just home use, ie quiet? If so download the free Boss tuner app, lower the sensitivity a tad in the settings and Bob's your uncle.
14. Just bought a Hiscox case from Nige, he hung on to the case for a couple of weeks for me even though I couldn't tell him exactly when I could pick it up until the last minute. Top chap to deal with, thanks Nige
15. Ditch the Thunderguts and order a set of Pahoehoe strings from Road Toad. Contrary to every comment and review I've read I find the black Pahoehoe strings a lot less grippy, higher tension (or whatever you'd like to call it) and more stable once settled in. Being slightly firmer the intonation issues that arise from heavy fretting is less noticeable. Also being less grippy you won't pull the string out of tune as easily when sliding. All this is my opinion of course.
16. Doublebass straight in a Phil Jones Bass Suitcase and 4B extension cab, no pre amp or pedals. The rig sits on a folding aluminium hop-up step thing to get it up to nice height. Always sounds good even in known problem venues. I think there's a lot to be said for keeping things simple
17. "I think that must be one of the most lethal loads I've ever seen in a car! The lack of view to the nearside could be equally lethal...." I think the OP had weighed up whether life was worth living or not when he bought a KA To be fair I used to load up a proper Mini like this years ago. The front seats tipped forwards pivoting on two bolts which I replaced with two pins with R clips so the passenger seat was 'quick release'. With the seat out I could fit half the PA on the back seat , my big, heavy Peavey amp where the front seat was and loads of other bags in around it all with a couple of basses in hard cases on top of it all. I had to break hard in a back lane once and one of my basses slid forwards with enough force to push the front screen out (perished screen rubber), the bass slid down the bonnet and I had to embarrassingly get out in front of the car I had stopped for and pick up my windscreen and bass. The screen was broken but the hard case did it's job. Moral of the story? Always transport your bass in a hard case
18. http://youtu.be/1fj8GymSCXY I'm loving this at the moment, fantastic cover of the Bill Hayley track Thirteen Women. Plus Vince Taylors Brand New Cadillac thrown in for good measure, I much prefer the Clashs version of that actually but 13 Women is awesome. Renegades are the band the Beatles could have been if they had a bit more edge and weren't so sickly sweet
19.
Don't start I suppose that's why it's also used by JJB great amps & I've owned most makes .
I totally agree, I'm an Ashdown fan, like any manufacturer they have good models and not so good models, but I've yet to own anything Ashdown that I haven't loved yet It was just sarcasm about the 'Basschat Bible'
20.
One of the big Ashdown tube heads (BTA) and Ashdown 4x10 and 2x15 cabs i believe.
Pah! I used to respect Foxton but he'll never get his trademark cutting tone on a woolly Ashdown, and what is he thinking mixing speaker sizes? Perhaps he should sign up here and be educated a bit. Come on Foxton, must try harder!
21.
Could you just get a Line6 Helix or AxeFX and do it all there?
Yep, I use the X3 Live and you can have two totally independent signal paths with separate amp/cab sims and effects on each routed through whatever you want to wherever you want.
22. Definitely need a fretless for all the slidey bits.
23. No there's no sign of any cracking, just a hump which I didn't notice at first but we did a gig where the venue had a dancefloor that was lit from underneath, when my bass was lying down pre gig I saw it in the light. Now I know it's there I notice it more. It hasn't got any worse in two and half years since I noticed it and I've wondered if all doublebasses have it to a degree, but as I said I've nothing to compare it to. I don't get many issues with feedback and a tight soundpost could actually be helping this I suppose. My amplified sound is fine and I fear any improvement on acoustic sound, by having a proper setup, could give me more feedback when amplified due to a more resonant top.
24. My Gedo has always had a hump in the back where the soundpost sits, I did mention it on here once but never followed it up. As I have no previous doublebass experience to compare it to I don't know if this is normal. It's not massive but it's definitely there and is visible. I'm using Innovation strings so relatively low tension but am probably moving to a medium tension steel string so am a little worried about the soundpost bump. I don't know of anyone within a two hour drive that I could take it to.
