1. My Gedo has always had a hump in the back where the soundpost sits, I did mention it on here once but never followed it up. As I have no previous doublebass experience to compare it to I don't know if this is normal. It's not massive but it's definitely there and is visible. I'm using Innovation strings so relatively low tension but am probably moving to a medium tension steel string so am a little worried about the soundpost bump. I don't know of anyone within a two hour drive that I could take it to.
2. Just bought some doublebass strings from Cameron, easy to deal with and sent them promptly. Thanks Cam
3. I'll take the 'odd e' set if you've still got them
4. I can't afford a music stand as my band gigs for free because we have no talent. Being talentless means we can't remember how any songs go so we don't play anything. It's an unbreakable cycle but we're all happy because we're in a rock band and the punters are happy because they can hear themselves speak. Sometimes it seems silly but I learnt it all on Basschat so it must be the way to go.
5. A very easy DIY way would be to use something like 3M Prep And Blend. It's a liquid used in the car refinishing trade to take the shine off of existing paintwork ready for repainting. Just use like a polish with a damp cloth but instead of shining it up it will matt it off. Gives a very uniform level off mattness as once the maximum level is achieved it can't cut any more. It will be a lot easier than using a scourer or fine papers. The downside is it will shine back in high traffic areas easier than if the finish was scoured, but that is because than scratches are so much finer but can easily be "touched up" with a quick rub with the paste at any time. Unfortunately that is the nature of the beast as the finer the scratches the more uniform the matt finish will be but the easier it will polish up again. A satin respray will also shine up over time and will need knocking back with such a paste anyway. Prep And Blend liquid is available on Amazon and for the comparatively small outlay you could do a lot worse than buying a bottle and trying it on the back of your bass. If you feel confident then strip the bass and do the whole thing. If you don't feel confident then it will polish back up or if it's being handed over to a professional then the matt patch won't make a jot of difference to their job.
6. I'm wondering why a deaf person would want a guitar and amp But yeah, definitely a scam.
7. 8. Old engine oil saved from your cars last oil change with transform a common rosewood board into an ebony-esque thing of beauty.
9.
I have a negative comment about the pedal: there is no way to bypass it.
Yep, I think you've convinced yourself you don't like it. I'll do you a favour and take it off your hands for fifty quid I did think about one of these when I was looking for a preamp, I'm now interested again, thanks for doing the sound clip.
10.
Or perhaps he wiped his cock on them
I hate it when my wife does this. That amp just looks wrong!
11.
Am I being dense or does the website not actually say where they are?
If it does it's not very clear. I was looking for their location as I seem to remember a place in Holsworthy and wondered if it was them.
12. I picked up one of these to use on doublebass. It was very reliable and never got any interference or drop out, but I did loose some bottom end so I moved it on. For vocals I'd imagine it would be fine.
13.
2 mins Next your going to tell me he didn't do it silently
Ahh, the tuning song. E E E E Eeeeeeeee E E E Eeeeeeeee, A A A Aaaaaaa A A A A Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa, D D D D D D D D D......... Ow, what the hell did you just slap me for? E E Eeeeeeee
14.
Hard to tell, it was six years ago...
15. Depending on the sound you're after, the acoustic version is very good on bass as well, no drive but for a clean bass sound it has the addition of a sweepable mid control.
16. Having only played unlined fretlesses that's exactly where I'd expect the dots to be, I find the lines to be the confusing part if anything.
17. My two Ubasses turned up yesterday. First thought was they look a lot nicer than I expected. The fretted one has razor sharp fret edges and buzzes quite a bit but is nice and even across the strings plugged in, a quick tweak on the trussrod and the buzzing has gone so a file on the frets will sort that one out. The fretless needed the same trussrod tweak but plugged in has low volume on the A and D strings, paper shims sorted this on the deko acoustic bass I got a while ago so shouldn't be a big problem. On the whole a happy chappy
18. Why's it got a strap button, surely a caster on the lower bout would be more useful?
19. Had the confirmation, they're both on their way. I'm pretty much exclusively doublebass now so will probably just keep the fretless but was wondering what the intonation is like on the fretted higher up the board. I know what cheap acoustics can be like with no adjustment, especially with such a short scale.
20. Ordered a fretted and fretless and I'll move on whichever one I don't want. Was just going to get a fretless but intonation on such a small scale is a pain higher up the neck so I thought screw it I'll try a fretted as well, although the intonation might be awful on that anyway. Just got to wait for that all important confirmation email.
21.
I got confused and thought you meant the Def Leppard track...I'll get me coat.....
All the instruments on the Def Leppard one really easy, I can even drum to it with one arm tied behind my back.
22.
Pete Loaf. My all time favourite tribute act name!
Got to be on par with Jef Leppard.
23.
Maude, you're the king of the mash up
24.
Two that do it for us are Good Times and You've Got The Love
We mash those two up, and it's definitely a floor filler.
25. We're an acoustic band (doublebass, mandolin, guitar and cajon), our version of Push It by Salt 'n' Peppa which morphs into My Sharona with the verse of The Buzzcocks' Ever Fallen in Love sang over the baseline to Push It in the middle. Sounds mad but gets everyone up dancing.
