1. Gov, Gov, not 'got', bleedin' Gov! Try to post an amusing reply and my phone makes an embarrassment of me, I give up.
2. Good job cos I ain't got a clue Got!
3. On the art front, I think if the piece serves a purpose other than just to be art, and the things that go along with this eg stimulating thought or conversation, then it isn't art. Therefore the above painted wall isn't art but the painted canvas is.
4. Ha. Beaten to it
5.
If a person perceives a note to be musical who can argue that it isn't
Me I think a single sound, that doesn't rise or fall in pitch rhythmically, cannot be musical. That's not to say that this unmusical sound cannot be turned into music by repeating the sound or adding others to it. For example, I don't consider a single hand clap musical, now repeat in a pattern and it becomes musical, ala 'Carwash'.
6. Just realised I never updated this with completed pictures. The only one I have at the moment is this one of me in our rehearsal room, don't know why it's black and white, guitarist thinking he's some sort of artist I suppose
7.
I'm intrigued. Anyone got any pictures of successful DIY paint jobs?
I've done lots of successful DIY refinishes, only pictures on here are this, which I've now realised I need to update with some completed pictures, albeit very late. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/227483-variax-make-over/
8. Most reasonable sized automotive bodyshops should have device that scans the paint surface to get a good match on faded paints where just the paint code isn't enough. They could scan your bass and give you a paint code which Halfords could make up a aerosol of paint with. To be honest I wouldn't use Halfords though, mostly staffed by people with no experience of the product they're selling. The companys that supply bodyshops would be much better and would be able to scan and mix your paint and put it in an aerosol can, if you know of any bodyshop suppliers. Whereabouts are you, can't see on my phone?
9.
i'd be tempted but any Deko over £40 is too rich for my blood!
Ha ha, that's what it's got like with the dekos. Fifty quid for a brand new bass is just too much
10. If you're on a budget then Entwistle JBXNs can't be beat. Actually forget the "on a budget" bit, they're just really good pickups.
11. "What is a Feeler?" Well that's my left hand, the right is a proper groper.
12. Yep. I did it when I made my bass uke. Bought a set of generic cheapies and reversed two to make a 2+2 headstock. Pretty sure all the Fender and copies can be reversed.
13. So in a way the jazz standards are more like building blocks to do your own thing with rather than songs to try and reproduce note for note, bar for bar as rock/pop covers seem to be. Strange how almost polar opposites are expected from different genres. Although our band takes popular songs and reworks them into different styles, swing Sex Pistols, bluegrass Arctic Monkeys, rockabilly Outkast etc and it goes down a storm everywhere we play, so maybe the average pub crowd doesn't just want straight covers. Thanks for the replies and sorry to the op for the slight derailment.
14. You'll have to excuse my ignorance here as this genre is most certainly not my cup of tea. Are these songs generally looked at in the same light as all the 'rock cover band' standards that all pub audiences love but most folks on here recoil at the very mention of, dakota, sex on fire, mustang sally etc? The way the Jazz standards have been described above makes them seem like they're the same old same old that every other jazz band churns out. Not looking to cause trouble, genuinely interested in how they are regarded.
15. I love going out gigging. The BCRs will gig in more towns, to more people, and make more money than I ever have so why the hell not.
16. First heard this on a tape someone lent me when I was younger. Laying in bed in a dark room with headphones on, I really should still do that but don't, The guitar just took my breath away, so amazingly sad and melancholic, yet angry and beautiful. Just utterly captivating. http://youtu.be/dh3bleXWaCk
17. Anything is possible with the correct tools and skills, that's not to say it'll be worthwhile. What is it you're trying to achieve?
18. Not quite sure if this qualifies but it always puts a massive grin on my face and wasn't recorded as a serious track. http://youtu.be/GXCh9OhDiCI
19. Ebay item number 371436430252 for the supplier of the guitar ones, maybe worth a message to see if they can get bass ones. Sorry, don't know how to link ebay on my phone.
20. There was a supplier of wooden ones on ebay. I was going to get a set for my Bex4 but the centre hole is machined for guitar size, not bass, so I gave up.
21. I laugh at your white four way mains, I use a white six way . . . ha! To be fair though I use one of those aluminium hop-up things to put my amp on, I put a black flag over it before the amp goes on and then tuck all power leads, cables etc underneath out of sight, even my pre amp pedal goes under with just the mute switch poking out so I can access it if needs be. All the audience sees is an amp with one cable coming from under it. I like to get pretty active on stage and cannot stand cables under my feet, when dragging a doublebass around you really don't need cables getting snagged on the endpin. All cables for the rest of the band are as others have said, behind the blackline, between mic stands and monitors at the front and up the sides, leaving a nice rectangle for performing in. I also can't stand all the cases being piled in a corner, GET RID OF THEM.... and breathe
22. My Jazz was 'to order' a couple of weeks ago, ordered as normal and received conformation email the following morning, they seem to be available as normal.
23. If you order the individual strings direct from LaBella then it doesn't work out expensive either. On their website you can build your own set or just order the invidual gauges of a pre packaged set, it works out cheaper than buying the set. I've bought heavier gauge rounds and they were less than twenty quid including postage from America.
24. And you will can usually change the 'gay bar' lyric for the name of the pub your playing in. Girl, I wanna take you to the Bulls Head, etc.
25. I get all moist every time I connect my PJB Suitcase to the extension cab with the PJB lead, I've never seen a single speaker lead that's got so much girth. It even came in a box lined with blue satin. The PJB website says something about using a cable with high resistance can raise the impedance that an amp 'sees' from a cabinet. It makes sense I suppose.
