  1. Wahey!!! Normality is restored. πŸ˜‰πŸ‘ What's it like running a forum full of old duffers who can't 'work the Internet' properly, Ped? πŸ˜‚ Thanks folks πŸ˜πŸ‘.
  2. I've noticed recently that the headings of each section in the homepage are in huge black banners that take up about 25% of a mobile phone screen. It makes scrolling down the homepage a bit of a pain as there only ever room for two section headings, but I just though hey ho and got on with it. Just been on Guitarchat and noticed that the homepage there is still the old format where the section heading is just in bold with the blurb below it. Is it a new, albeit very odd style, or is there a problem? Maybe it's my phone as I've seen no mention of it anywhere. BC GC
  3. A takeaway is cheaper to get in than a bass player for the night. That faultless logic should guide you down the righteous path.
  4. Notifications are back. πŸ™‚πŸ‘ Too many now. πŸ˜„
  5. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - I, Ron Maiden!
  6. Yep same issues here with no notifications and the 'loading' of death when posting. Mobile phone via Chrome and light theme, drinking tea with a (un)healthy supply of biscuits.
  7. Does that get rid of them? Don't Stop - Fleetwood Mac
  8. Money! How vulgar. πŸ˜‰ Slightly more detailed answer, I've got two, three and four figure basses. A list of them from cheapest to most expensive wouldn't be the same list as worst to best, in either quality, playability or tone. A cheap bass can become an 'expensive' bass with an afternoon of fettling in all but monetary value.
  9. As far as I know there's absolutely no problem discussing Ricks and fakers, only the sale of. Saying that, real Ricks are back on for sales aren't they?
  10. As a thin, white, 50 year old male, I was absolutely appalled that I wasn't given the chance to front a Lizzo tribute.
  11. If you've seen my posts on here you may know I'm a bit wierd, in that I like a Kay bass, and I've spent far too much time restoring a couple. But, Β£295 for a plywood Kay. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kay-K-1B-bass-/165316929580?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
  12. My guess is the thread in the nut or jack socket is stripped from repeated tightening. The nut is now rotating on the jack socket without locating on the threads to wind off. Or it has located on them cross threaded and is jammed.??? Buying a new socket and jack plate is not the end of the world and relatively cheap if you are able to solder the two wires on, or know someone who can. Although I appreciate that even relatively small amounts of money can be too much sometimes. I'm sure someone with a little more know how could get it sorted without any new parts though. Whereabouts are you?
  13. I've gone all warm and fuzzy again. Good on you @Rich & @andyonbass πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
  14. I've got a bit more done to this today. I had to redrill for the Wilkinson replacement bridge. I had one with brass saddles which I wanted to use to complement the other brass bits. A quick measure to get in the right place, and it can't go in the right place. Ideally you want the G string saddle on its maximum adjustment (well nearly maximum just in case of poor measuring) towards the neck, and measure that at 34" (or whatever your scale length is). The others will always need longer string runs to intonate properly. Or that's what I remember. Anyway I didn't bother filling the bridge screw holes as they'll be covered, and possibly used depending on which bridge I used, right? Well with the bridge sat where the old one was, the G saddle is on about half adjustment when the scale length is 34", not the ideal maximum adjustment, or minimum depending on how you look at it. I've fitted it in the same place as the old one and hopefully they'll be enough room to intonate properly. I've refitted the old loom for now as although the original pots looked terrible, the mankiness on them seems to be some sort or yellow wax. Underneath this they are clean so I've left them as they are, I'll see if they worked properly before making a decision on replacing them. If it ain't broke and all that. I got some brass volume and tone knobs from AliExpress. They are a close match to the kind you see on Westone Thunders and again, I thought they'd go with the brass theme. I've never liked the black speed knobs that I think they're meant to have. They are taller than I'd like but have a cool oversized look, which I quite like given that this is just a bit of fun. I was going to take a few mil off the bottom but I don't think they'll sit any lower on the shaft (pack it in children). All this, plus the shape, is beginning to remind me of one of those gaudy Alembics, shudder. πŸ˜„
  15. I find that, annoyingly, the first rendition of an idea is usually the best. I'll come up with a basic idea and think, that sounds good, I'll expand on that. Then I'll add bits that accentuate certain instrustuments or add counter melodies to other instruments, build on that main riff I came up with, add little lead ins to the chorus, maybe a little solo riff that plays off the guitar solo, add some dynamics. Then I'll hear a recording of the original basic idea I came up with and think, oh that's perfect. Note to self, stop trying to overcomplicate things.
  16. And to follow that statement, let's go to the absolute other end of the scale, a Β£50 charity shop bass. 😁 An Encore which I've just stripped, cleaned and polished, spent some time on the frets and fretboard, then fitted a Tonerider pickup and an old set of Chromes that I had. I'm not going to claim it's in the four figure range of Precisions but it's an absolute belter now, feels and plays lovely and sounds as a P bass should. The thread is here if it's of interest. πŸ™‚πŸ‘
  17. Here's a picture with my Attitude bass pickguard for comparison. Still indoor lighting but you can see the difference. The Attitude one is white but about ten years old, so is slightly off white compared to brand new white pearl, but nonetheless you see just how creamy the Encore one is. I think the cream pearl suits the deep trans red so well.
  18. Fitted the Chrome flats, Tonerider pickup and gave it a set up today. It plays really, really nicely and sounds great now. Really happy with it. The neck has a familiar Yamaha feel to it which is nice. It's amazing the transformation an hour or two doing some fretwork and smoothing/rounding every edge on the neck has on comfort. This will be my old skool thump Precision and the Aria STB that had the Chromes on will get rounds to go with the already fitted 1/4 Pound PU, and be my grindy rock Precision as it has a bit of a 70s look. It would look nice with bridge and PU covers on but I don't really like how cluttered they make a bass feel. Bridge ones are OK but the PU ones drive me nuts.
