Oooooh! Lovely Series II there! Being a huge expert (as already noted and very modest too!) your bass has the slimline neck moulding of course with the `narrow' central body graphite spine, which of course does not appear on the rear of the bass! I nearly bought one that year with a birdseye maple front - ah!
I didn't think you were that big last time I saw you Nick................... Mike
Thanks for the contribution to the thread...... good debate IMHO - Bass Player it too high brow and aimed at the pro player. (it's only recently they started to include Tab in their transcriptions) From a journalistic perspective I can see why it has it's followers BGM seems a little more broader in it's appeal with plenty content for the hobbyist...... there has been some decent product reviews and profiles but from my point of view plenty of interesting ground not yet covered.
Hi Marcus, Can you give us an idea of what you would like to see referring to "interesting ground not yet covered." Cheers, Mike
Right, I've missed out quite a few gigs so here they are in brief: Last night: Wedding gig in Painshill Park, Cobham. Before the gig I got up early (after 5 hours sleep) and went to our local Maplins to get a speakon cable... ...surprise surprise they were out of stock. If there's one thing I know I can rely on, its that my local Maplins never have the one thing I'm looking for. So I faced a schlep under time pressure into the city to find a place that sold speakon cables. At this point I really missed Sound Control. But I ended up in the London PA Centre on Denmark Street and they made me up a 2m cable on the spot. Top blokes, really helpful and very funny to boot. Probably the only shop I'd go back to on that street.
Without sounding flippant........why didn't you give me a shout, you plonker! Mike

Celebrity Gear - once used by the famous
Mike Brooks replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in General Discussion
My Thumb was *apparently* used by Prince at an awards show in the early 90s at some point. I've found a pic of him playing an identical fretless but not this one, so I'm a bit sceptical.
Actually, the white Warwick Thumb fretless used by Prince at The Brits in 1997 belongs to Bob Skeat of Wishbone Ash and is currently for sale at The Bass Centre, unless Bob has collected it. But it is for sale. If anyone is interested in it, PM me and I'll pass your details onto Bob. Mike -

It's a low D extender, both are Ex-Factors, the Coral Pink one is a 1989 Fender-made-with-Kubicki-parts and the White one is a proper Kubicki-made bass from 1988. Mike

Does this pair count......?

Anyone remember Everyday People - Headline News ?
Mike Brooks replied to far0n's topic in General Discussion
Seem to remember them playing this track on some Royal Variety Performance thing around 1990ish. I know the bass player was Shaun Ward of Simply Red but can I hell as like find any footage of the performance.
I have the album on CD and very fine it is too. Mike -

Quite a lot, still have a useable passive tone but the Fender circuit was so brittle sounding, I just didn't think it was very useable and I still don't think Fender know how to make a decent active circuit. The East circuit just gives you a really broad tone shaping palette that really covers everything you could want and having midEQ with a frequency sweep makes a big difference, especially on gigs where your sound gets eaten up. I could go on for several pages but I'm a happy customer and after 3 years if it wasn't working I would have swapped it back by now...and I haven't so deduce from that what you will. Put it this way, if you like the Marcus with the Fender circuit you will love it even more with the East circuit. And I'm not a salesman for John either!! Cheers, Mike

Yes, had it done to mine back in April 2005 and it's been fantastic, no complaints at all. Mike

Hello ALL Bass Players, Electric and Steam!

Morning squire!! Mike -
Yep, same electronics, there was a period years ago where the Spitfires had different electronics but that's not the case anymore. Enjoy the new purchase!!! Mike

Been following your threads regarding your new Spitfire purchase. Did you not try a Rumour before plumping for the Spitfire? It took me several weeks to decide which worked better for me, regarding the body shape, headstock, balance and overall feel. Which explains why I now have 2 Rumours (4&5). Mike
