hi folks, Bet this has been asked before but can't find a solid answer... Am I OK running my amp (Ashdown ABM) with a 16ohm cab? I know that doing so will reduce power compared to an 8ohm cab, I don't mind that, but is it going to do any damage to the head at all. I think not, but want to be sure. The idea is to run a very portable 16ohm 1x10 cab that would see about 1/4 of the rated power of the amp as a little practice amp, leaving me free to add an 8ohm 2x10 (and a third cab if i was really in need of volume, but I can't see that ever happening). That way the three 10 inch drivers each see the same amp power. I can imagine folk wondering why not just 2 x 210s, but I want to keep one cab v compact. Cheers all.

Exactly how I use the ABM bass too. It is great for that. Below it, the ABMs all have a steep HPF, so it works very well at attenuating rather than boosting the low-lows.

Looks great but the cabs are pretty pricey ... the head plus 2 x 210s would be about about £1850!! There's a lot of very good competition at that price. Still though, like the look of it all.

Yeah I think hartke used a tone stack approach on those amps, so the 'tone dials' are interactive, like on an old valve amp (think vox ac30, fender twin etc). It's not like an equaliser, where each dial is a separate cut and boost. There is a good explanation here: https://www.guitarworld.com/reviews/hartke-tx600-head

Fender modern player series telecaster bass
funkydoug replied to Fil1ip's topic in General Discussion
I've got a modern player jazz from that era (the passive one) and I think it is absolutely great. I'd have no concerns about build quality or component quality with the MP series. As for price, you can search on ebay for something similar and check the option to include completed items. That shows you what stuff sold for, and goes back long enough catch something relevant (probably). That's a useful clue as to what then realistic value is. -
Very sorry @aphook what a schoolboy error!! ...and thanks for confirming:)

Two TNT combos would sound immense!

Morning all, Yeah @pete.young that was my original plan too, but as others are saying it bypasses the eq meaning I couldn't set each one's eq to suit the driver. Alternatively I could plug into the 115, set it how I like it then send a signal from its tuner out into the 110. That way both eqs are independent. The Rolls crossover does appear to be the only pedal one available ... but looking at it, it's crossover is 24db/octave. Thats ideal for its normal purpose but I feel like I'd be losing quite a lot from this set up if I did that ... losing alot of mids top from the 115h and some of the low mids from the 110. I think there's only one thing for it ... plug it in and mess around with it, then apologise to the neighbours 🤣.

Yeah, thats what i found too ... maybe just gonna go with turning bass down on the 110.... or maybe I need a rack system! now u got me down a hole new rabbit hole 🤣 Cheers dude.

Cheers guys. @Phil Starr you've dampened the GAS for a while... @Jus Lukin crossover is a great idea. Any in pedal format??

Cheers guys, some good food for thought. Yeah I was thinking that eq for each cab would be good. Probably just got too much time on my hands and sense GAS creeping up on me!

hi folks looking for some lockdown advice as I'm not in a position to test this out at volume for a while... I've got a nice pair of ABM combos as in the pic. Its an ABM 300 1X10 and a NEO 400 1X15. The idea is to use the 110 for practice, the 115 for most gigs and then if needed pair them up as a rig. I tend to overthink this kind of thing but in terms of unmatched speakers, the 10nbeing a bit weak and potentially excursion limited etc ... can anyone convince me this is a good plan?? Or that I should sell them both and buy something else 😂

Selling my MS3. Bought it out of curiosity and just never ended up using it. Very flexible multi effects unit with lots of integration features for amp switching and loops. There are dedicated bass effects on there ... including great bass drive and bass octaver and plenty of others including compressors, filters, and modulation effects. Really is very good. This is in very clean condition, home use only. Will come in the original box. Can add pics if there is any interest. £250 plus shipping.

Hi folks, thinning the herd out like a few others. Any interest in this Cube amp? Great portable combo that is unusally potent for the rated 120w. Extension cab adds even more volume. Happy to answer any questions. It is mint other than a tiny nick on the back bottom edge (see pic). It will be sent in the original inner and outer box from Roland with the manual. £250 plus the cost of delivery.

Slight zombie resurrecion here but just adding this in case it is useful for others ... I've had this confirmed by tech support at both Orange and Ashdown, and have scoped the ABM to confirm it. 1) Ashdown's ABM series has a steep HPF as standard, it starts to work at around 30hz. I was only told that the ABM that has the HPF, but haven't had a MAG or RM series amp to test. 2) All of Orange's bass amps (and the new Bass Butler preamp) have a steep HPF which starts to cut at 30hz. Includes everything from the crush range to the big heads. I don't know what order (db/octave) they are but they are described as steep and the purpose is to filter out subsonics without interfering with your sound /tone. It is hard to scope & measure accurately down below 30z, but it does look like a steep drop off on the ABM, so my guess (and that's all it is) would be that it is at least 18db/oct. In general, the more I learn the more I respect amp makers who have been doing this for years (decades), many of whom have already dealt with cone excursion problems in their amp designs.
