The Saffire range are firewire ( if you do use a Saffire.use a firwire card not a connector to USB or you will have problems) only as far as I know, could be wrong? The Scarletts are USB, the 6i6 is a great interface, they are a bit more expensive than most audio interfaces but you get what you pay for, I borrowed a Line 6 and to be honest the recording quality is rubbish towards my Focusrite Scarlett.

February Composition Challenge - GET RECORDING!
Awesome.........

My renowned lack of both hearing and good taste nullify any opinion I could offer on this; suffice it to say that I hear nothing blatantly amiss here, only an excellent interpretation of a fine composition. Please take this as the compliment that was intended.
Cheers guys for the feedback, and I will take the compliment Dad3353, any compliments even if I don't understand them are mine, all mine Ahhh ahhhh -
The Focusrite Scarlett series are awesome for the moneys, about £120 for the 2i2, I had one of these and it was great and the quality of sound was excellent. Just upgrading to a Scarlett 18i8, need more ins and outs, these are about £290 and have the same award winning pre amps as the 2i2. I use Sonar X2 Producer which is a great DAW, they are all similar really. You get a version of Ableton lite packaged with the Focusrite stuff.

Thanks for this, I really need this type of advice at the moment
-
Yeah really like the track, very dark but cool, cast my vote for the one that really stood out where everything was clearly crisp and audible but the bass groove was still prominent. Reminds me of something from the eighties, but that type of sound is really in with the young whipper snappers at the moment. I am approaching fifty this year and I am starting to go in shock, I am still 20 in my head

Stephen Houghton replied to Skol303's topic in Recording
Just trying to mix mine, but have had an ear infection for a couple of weeks and I am deaf in one ear, its really doing my head in now Started with a dark idea about the picture, but it has gone completely the opposite way and turned out quite upbeat. Will post it as soon as its finished, the mix may be a bit messed up though -

Very nice job, it looks great, cant wait to hear the end result. -
Hint taken, will try to have a go next month, just been busy trying to get my head around my setup and also need to pay for my new audio interface before I an collect it from the shop, could be a while yet. Got a crappy one I can do something with until then, count me in for next month

Voted, great work from everyone involved, there was a couple that I favoured, but one stood out for me and got the vote Yeee Hahhhhhhh

Appreciate some feedback on this, just used my new monitors for mixing for the first time and the mix is much better than I usually end up with, used Rokit 6 G3s. This track is one of my own creations, just started with an acoustic riff and went from there, I am not a guitar player so have mercy http://soundcloud.com/9thaspect/amazing

Just thought I would do an update on the Rockit 6 G3S, been using these for a while now and to be honest I thought at first there wasn't a lot of difference to using my good quality hifi speakers that I used to use for mixing, my old mixes always sounded muggy and not right somehow, but I could never sort the problem out. Since using these the difference is massive when I have finished a mix and play it back on my hifi speakers, the sound quality overall is much better and very CD quality, crisp, clear and everything is in a much better place in the mix. Don't get me wrong I am only learning, but the difference is massive. I am just adding acoustic foam to the room I use for recording and according to what I have read, this should allow me to make better judgements in the mixing process. The Rockits have definitely been worth the money, I know they are a budget level monitor but for me probably the best investment I have made so far. Love them and highly recommend them if anyone is thinking about getting a pair. Problem is now I have got the bug and as my vocal ability is a bit naff I am now thinking of investing in a TC Helicon Voiceworks Plus rack effect, my brother is in America at the moment and I can get the plus model for about £135 and get it sent as a present, should save nearly £300, they are going on ebay for a starting bid of more than this second hand. So I am really tempted. Anyone any thoughts on these?

Basschat Competition Bass (13 Guitar Co.) - CONCLUSION!

Looks really nice! -
Hi all, Tried to do a laid back Reggae style thing and it just sort of imploded and I took loads of time messing with it, I have binned it (note to self don't attempt reggae style keys again until I can actually play a keyboard, it ended up sounding a bit like the magic roundabout theme on acid). Will have another pop if I have time but I really am struggling at the moment, seem to have writers block.

Thanks for this Rob looks great

Hi all, great pic Skol and I see you won again last month so I didn't miss much then I have finally got my room sorted and have set my stuff up again so shiver in your boots this month Skol, I am back with a vengeance ( just thought if I had a room of my own to work in the creative juices would be unstoppable, but then again you know what thought did ) Great entries last month from everyone, just had a listen but was too late to vote, sorry everyone

September Composition 2014 - A new beginning
Stephen Houghton replied to charic's topic in Recording
Not going to make it this month despite a great pic, moving all my gear into a spare bedroom and need to build a desk, setup a new computer and sort out where my monitor's are going to go, my wife is throwing me out of the living room as I am now taking too much space up. Have to empty all the crap I have put in the room over many years, so lots of eBay and tip visits coming up, will try to stick anything that anyone can use that's going free on Basschat. Will listen to the entries and vote at the end of the month though. -
Glad you got sorted, Just remember that they are not hi-fi speakers and need to place them properly there is plenty of information on how to do this on the internet. Let us know how you are getting on with them.
Cheers I will once I get my room setup, will be a few week before its ready

I use Namehog to buy and host domain names and hosting packages, they are cheap and really good, good customer service too.
