1. Cool video... I owned a 1994 3 band stingray with a maple board (which I sold) and now own a 2011 Stingray classic with a maple board. I can confidently say (as I have recorded and gigged extensively with both basses and had them both under the microscope in various conditions) I much prefer the Classic to the the 1994 3 band. The classic preamp is darker, thicker, more thumpy whereas I had issues with the spiky three band sound. The 7.25 neck radius on the classic is a winner too.
2. This is one of my all time favourite Larry Graham lines. Anti Love Song - Betty Davis....very, very, very funky! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0nJ2LSabQ8
3. And another quick note to say thanks for selling it back to me
4. Yup, the Stingray has it all - thump, presence and heaps of bottom end. esp with dead rounds or flats. Phenomenal basses.
5. Second hand Ibanez GWB 1 (Ibanez Gary Willis sig) can be got for about 750-800. Has the thickest low mids imaginable. A stunning, very high quality, bass. They crop up every so often here and there.
6. I've had some great sounding basses that have been boat anchors (70s jazz bass was the main culprit...probably about 12-13 pounds). It was such a nightmare to be charging around with that bass on it always remained on the guitar stand. I also sing so it was a claustrophobic pain in the neck. So as a rule, I always check weight. Under 10lbs is my preference.
7. Sat morning bump and a... ...NEW PART-EX ALERT Would part ex for a good condition Orange Bass Terror or Tonehammer head plus cash my way.
8. Weight bump for my J that needs a new home. 4 kilos aka 8,8 pounds. Light, well balanced, and very lovely sounding And note the tight neck pocket!
9. Yes - I realised as I was posting that I never buy new so I deleted my comment
Re: resale - I think any bass you buy used - provided you pay the going rate - will hold its value. That's not specific to Fender. Of course when it becomes vintage, the game changes entirely.
10. Sunday morning bump for this 1975 American Vintage Reissue with pearl blocks instead of black.
11. Pretty much looking for a sale I'm afraid... Cheers, Nick
12. ***...NEW PART EX ALERT Would part ex for a good condition Orange Bass Terror or Tonehammer head plus cash my way. *** This is a great bass that took a long time to track down but I will be sticking with my stingray live so it's on the block. This is a Factory Special Run of about 300 made by Fender USA in 2013. It is the 1975 model with PEARL blocks instead of black and a 'Aged Natural Finish'. Also, unlike the new 1974 Reissue, it has the brilliant micro tilt which enables a featherlight action on this bass. Weight is good at 8,8 pounds (4kilos on the nose) and the neck profile is narrow but with enough heft to sit happily in the hand. Tone is thick, deep and thuddy for a jazz. Comes with case candy and v nice G&G case. Balance is perfect. It's a lovely 70s style jazz bass but I have to man up and move it on! Would rather viewing and pick up in Kent or meet in London but will ship if necessary. Condition is very good with some light pick guard swirling and the odd superficial mark here and there. The bass is in good nick, never gigged. I have installed my usual Schaller strap locks but have the originals. This is a Factory Special Run of about 300 made by Fender USA for the Yamano distributor in Japan. It is the 1975 model with PEARL blocks instead of black and a 'Aged Natural Finish'. Also, unlike the new 1974 Reissue, it has the brilliant micro tilt which enables a featherlight action on this bass. Weight is good at about 9 lbs and the neck profile is narrow but with enough heft to sit happily in the hand. Tone is thick, deep and thuddy for a jazz. Comes with case candy and v nice G&G case. Balance is perfect. It's a perfect 70s jazz bass but I have to man up and move it on! Would rather viewing and pick up in Kent or meet in London but will ship if necessary. Condition is very good with some light pick guard swirling. The bass is pretty much as new. Never gigged. 14. The three bolt system is brilliant. in my experience. I have a 75RI that plays ridiculously well with the neck angle tweaked *just so*. It's also the biggest sounding/thumpy jazz I've ever owned so I'm not sure about the criticisms re: neck to pocket contact and tone etc Sounds great and plays great.
15. Bank holiday bump for a very nice strat. As new apart from a single ding on the front. never gigged or rehearsed.
16. Beautiful bass! Also, it's interesting how the great, sadly now late, Louis Johnson, so synonymous with the Stingray, chose to play the Sabre in later life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=echg0Gek9QA
