1. Very smooth transaction. Thanks Steve!
2. Indeed Kiwi - regarding rarity, load up the Steinberger database and search for XL25...doesn't occur much... http://www.steinbergerworld.com/serial-L.html
3. Interesting bass. Do you find the thicker neck give this jazz a heavier sound? I love jazz basses but suspect that the thinner the neck, the weedier the tone?
4. Indeed - these are so eye wateringly rare. One of the great bass designs and unlike it's peers - Jazzes, Ps, Rics, Stingrays etc - they will NEVER be made again. Gold dust, hen's teeth, finite resource etc
5. S'funny - I play a Rickenbacker and a Stingray and don't give a guff about people slagging either bass off as, um, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Also, the weak G string is present on most Stingrays I have tried. I had a '94 (now sold) that had a very weak G string. My Classic, on the other hand, is strong like bull Getting upset about people slagging off the model of your bass is a major warning that you need to get a sense of perspective. These brand specific websites are a fantastic source of information but the mildest criticism will nark off the passive aggressive obsessive compulsives that act as self-elected brand reps who see themselves as protector of Sterling Ball's honour etc etc (he can protect himself very adequately I'm sure).
6. Indeed. On a rarity/collectable scale an XL25A goes up to 11…funny how Steinbergers don't get snapped up immediately. They are such fantastic basses…
7. And a price drop to 1650 for this splendid bass!
8. Good voice there…communicates the song well...
9. Yup - it's a beauty...
10. Price drop Monday Adamovic bump... Also open to jazz basses plus a grand!
11. They're very rare I think - a special one off order by GC in around 2010/11. Mine has a flame neck and a weight of 8.5 lbs - it's my dream bass.
12. New sound files added - follow the link to sound cloud...
13. Weds afternoon price drop and FS option!
14. I have a Stingray in a simliar colour scheme - it's the Guitar Centre special edition I think. Bump for a great bass!
15. Links tweaked…Maher went on to play with Scritti. I love this music. That's put me in the mood for some relentless music. Lo...Crow by Albini's Shellac...
16. Ah Massacre! Two formative tracks for me... Legs Killing Time FANTASTIC music...
17.
Not unless he has a time machine
Ah ...didn't realise he was using them before Edwards. Anyone with a geeky interest in Queen recordings know which tracks were Deacon using a 'Ray?
18. Anyone have a list of tracks where he used a stingray? Another One Bites the Dust? Was it a Bernard Edwards influence? Deacon is an amazing bassist.
19. Single cuts understandably divide opinion as most of them look revolting. However, I became intrigued after trying a few Fodera imperials - to my eye the Imperial shape manages to play against type and look extremely cool. Pretty much every other single cut shape makes me want to throw up. Since I couldn't afford a new Imperial, I got an Adamovic Halo which is a rare bass that pulls off a good look for a single cut in my view. http://www.adamovic....s/Custom/Ha.htm Feel wise I would say that a good single cut gives the neck a different feel, especially in the upper register compared to bolt ons and neck-throughs. The whole bass feels 'fused' together and certainly on the Imperials I've tried (and my Adamovic) gives terrific sustain and response, especially in the upper registers. That doesn't mean that I don't use bolt ons (I have a few bolt ons that are just amazing, esp my stingray) but I certainly prefer chording, playing complicated upper register stuff etc more on the Adamovic, which is by far the most playable bass I own.
